WOW! So...I didn't know that Robert Louis Stevenson, the beloved author of classics like Treasure Island and Dr. Jekyll/Hyde had such a naughty/dark side... The book itself includes Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, albeit an abridged version of it, 13 verses and Fables, 3 short stories including the Suicide Club, Nixie and the Bottle imp), as well as a brief literary account of his life. He brought up interesting topics and themes and ideas for his time. His stories show off why he has st WOW! The illustration featured as the cover art does little to impress, considering that most of the black and white artwork inside is very good. The print is large and readable. I love that someone finally took the really long classics and catered them to a younger more reluctant audience (but hey, they're reading). I'll take it!

Fun. Not great. "The Bottle Imp," "Jekyll & Hyde," and "Treasure Island" are good adventure reading. Fun. Not great. "The Bottle Imp," "Jekyll & Hyde," and "Treasure Island" are good adventure reading.

Graphic Classics Volume 9 is an assortment of different classic stories all redone into cartoon form. Some of the different stories are Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, The Suicide Club, and The Bottle Imp. There are a lot of different authors and story types all put together into cartoon form. The main author (the one who gets all the credit) is Robert Louis Stevenson. In some ways this book is like Odder Than Ever, Text-to-Text. Each of them have different stories that play of each other very slightly. Both books have stories that range from childish to mature. Although Odder Than Ever was written by one person and this book was written by many. Also because there are so many different types of stories the reader is bound to connect to at least one of them. I gave this book three stars but I wanted to give it three and a half. I liked some parts better then others and I thought that the ones that were good were really good. Yet the ones that wore bad were absolutely terrible. There was hardly any middle ground. I also thought the illustrations were good, but needed a little color. Over all a good read I would recommend to someone who likes recreations of stories, short stories, or likes graphic novels.

I've read several of these Graphic Classics books on authors and really didn't care for them. It's a really good idea - using the graphic novel format to get people reading an author's lesser known stories - but it just doesn't work for me. I don't know if it's the black and white format? Or maybe there's a reason these are the lesser known stories, b/c they suck? I don't know but they're not for me.
