Even though the shop and her bibliotherapy sessions keep Nora busy during the day, her nights are a little too quiet—until Deputy Andrews pulls Nora into the sci-fi section and asks her to help him plan a wedding proposal. His bride-to-be, Hester, loves Little Women, and Nora sets to work arranging a special screening at the town’s new movie theater. But right before the deputy pops the question, Nora makes an unsettling discovery—someone has mutilated all her store’s copies of The Scarlet Letter, slicing angrily into the pages wherever Hester Prynne’s name is mentioned. The coincidence disturbs Nora, who’s one of the few in Miracle Springs who knows that Hester gave up a baby for adoption many years ago. Her family heaped shame on her, and Hester still feels so guilty that she hasn’t even told her future husband. But when a dead man is found on a hiking trail just outside town, carrying a rare book, the members of the Secret, Book, and Scone Society unearth a connection to Hester’s past. Someone is intent on bringing the past to light, and it’s not just Hester’s relationship at stake, but her life…

This is one of my favorite cozy mystery series. I love that it is centered around friends and books. Ellery Adams has a writing style that I like as well, and I always keep watching for any of her books. In this one there's a possible new romance, an engagement, a murder mystery, and of course, books. The things I enjoyed most about this book were the Valentine's Day plans (especially the Blind Date Book Bash), the planning of the proposal, Sheldon's window dressing, the book references, and the friendship of the women. OK, yeah, I pretty much liked everything. Entertainment Weekly called this series "a love letter to reading" and I very much agree. Thanks to Kensington Books through Netgalley for an advance copy. This book will be published on April 26, 2022.

Jasper Andrews, boyfriend of her friend, Hester has asked Nora to help him set-up a good place to ask Hester to marry him. It is suggested to do it at the movie theater which he does and she accepts. While out hiking Nora comes across Grant McCabe, sheriff and her boyfriend near the bridge. There is a body found at the bottom of the bridge. No one knows who he is. There is a book found in his pocket called Miss Delphinium. Throughout the story other books by the same author appear. Nora does research and finds that they are all part of The Lady Artist books. Sadie Strong is the jacket designer. The flowers on the covers are based on Tiffany glass designs for Tiffany Studios. There is a letter clue in the flowers. This is where the author takes the reader on an adventure of finding out the mystery of the books, who the murdered victim is, Hester's secret to the exciting ending. I am looking for the next adventure of the Secret Book and Scone Society book club. Thank you NetGalley and Kensington Publishing Corp. for this ARC.

Secret, Book, & Scone Society is by far one of my very favorite series which just so happens to be a cozy mystery series on top of that. I love the way that Ellery Adams writes, and she created the best of the best characters when she created these books. The Vanishing Type is now the 5th installment, and just like the other 4, gave me all the feels as well as being a genuinely interesting and surprising mystery. Also just like the other 4, there are so many heartfelt moments, and plenty of times I got a little teary. Even though there are multiple members in the Secret, Book, & Scone Society, the story is told completely from Nora's viewpoint which I always adore because I not only love her as a character, but I love that she owns a bookstore as well. Over the course of the 4 other books she has also picked up a helper in her bookstore, and her working with him is always a delight to read. I also really appreciate the fact that the audiobooks have all stuck with the same narrator, which is Cris Dukehart. I don't know if I have listened to her narrate anything else, but she is pitch-perfect as the voice of Nora and the absolute perfect person to voice the whole series. I am hoping that I will never lose her as Nora, and I REALLY hope Adams never stops writing this series. The Vanishing Type could technically be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend reading the entire series in order, and not just for the simple fact that they are so enjoyable. Adams does do a wonderful job catching the reader up to speed, but if you start at the beginning, you really get to see how Nora, Hester, Estella, and June evolve as people and friends. In a way, you could say it is a bit like Criminal Minds, where each case is different, but you do miss out on some character ties if you don't go in order. Nora really is a magnet for trouble, and I can't wait to see what she and her friends will get up to in the next book. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Read this book! Seriously, it's an amazing book. Each is a flawed human with a unique backstory that helped them become the women that they are today and have bonded over those flaws and become closer because of them. They are very attuned to their community and do their best to look out for it. In this book, it appears that one of their own has become a target although the motive is unclear and how she relates to the unknown John Doe in the county morgue. It is up to the book club ladies to figure it out and save their friend while navigating their own personal issues as they go. This is not your average cozy mystery as you will feel much more connected to the characters who continuously show their intelligence, wit, caring and compassion as well as their strength. Seriously, read this series and in particular this book. It has now become my favorite book in the series!

Someone is trying to reveal Hester secret and they will do anything to bring it out in the open, even murder. I love this series because the characters come to life with each new word making them not only relatable but easy to get to know. I appreciate being able to witness a true growth with each woman and seeing how far they have come since the first book. I'm always excited when a new book is released and look forward to taking an emotional journey that the author pulls from me with her words. I can't wait for the next book! June works at the hot springs spa where people come to rejuvenate themselves. Estella is a beautician who tries to help her clients find their true selves. Nora Pennington is busy with her employee and friend Shelton Vega planning ways to entice readers into the store and buy books they can escape into while it is chilly outside. They have some great ideas including a Blind Date with a Book event for Valentine’s Day. Deputy Andrews has also confided in Nora and asked for her help to come up with the perfect evening for him to pop the question and ask Hester to marry him. Knowing how much Hester loves the book Little Women and knowing the movie theater in town will be screening old movies she comes up with a way to combine the two for the proposal. Before they can get together for the big event Nora discovers that several copies of The Scarlet Letter at her store have been damaged. Some had angrily removed the name of Hester from all of the copies. It gives her pause because she knows her friend Hester has a secret she hasn’t even shared with the man who is going to propose to her very soon. Then a man is found dead outside of town off a hiking trail. They find no identification on the body but he had a rare book in the pocket of his jacket. This piques the attention of all the members of the Secret, Book, and Scone Society. But what they find could rock Hester’s world. Her secret is going to come out and it could cost her her life. I love this series so much. The friendships these women have built are so strong and their gifts to help people are so heartwarming. This time they have a mystery to solve to help one of their own and they won’t give up until every clue falls into place and the mystery is solved. I have to say this was an emotional read, my heart was tugged in several directions for various reasons. The story touched me personally and my heart broke when a child was bullied at school for the same problem I had. All these years later kids can still be so mean. I was thrilled when Nora had the perfect book to comfort the child. Again Ms. Adams takes on another social issue with teen pregnancy and the following adoption. Hester is carrying a heavy load of guilt and trauma due to the way her family forced her to deal with a pregnancy. The author gives the story a huge twist using a set of rare books that carry clues to help solve a very complex mystery and to help Hester. This story was so well-plotted and interesting on many levels. It truly had a puzzle that needed to be solved to push the story further and I was captivated by each new piece and where it all would lead. I had a really hard time putting it down when it was time for bed. I continue to be in awe of the author’s knowledge of books across so many genres. Nora’s gift is to find a perfect book for each customer, from children to adults of all ages and interests. She seems to have read every book in her store and can remember the tiniest detail in all of them. I am green with envy and thankful for the list provided of them all at the end of the book. My book wish list grows every time I read one of the books in this series. Ellery Adams has created such a wonderful set of core characters. They all have their faults and traumatic things they have dealt with and are still dealing with every day. They are engaging and welcoming. They are all strong, kind, and genuine. I would love to meet people just like them in real life. A place like Miracle Books would truly be my happy place. The Vanishing Type is an excellent addition to this series! I loved every minute of it and was sad to reach the final page. You will definitely find this book on my Best Reads of 2022. I can’t wait for the next book!! I recommend this entire series! They are best read in order for maximum enjoyment.

Wow, what can I possibly say about The Vanishing Type that will influence someone to buy it, read it, and maybe pass it on to someone else. Nora, Hester, Estella and June are the core characters of this wonderful series by the talented Ellery Adam's. Sheldon is a newer character who works with Nora in her book shop. He's a wonderful addition to the series and his chronic pain allows him to be real, to show everyone that illnesses like fibromyalgia are very real and can be extremely debilitating. In this story, Hester is forced to relive the pain and anguish of events that took place several years earlier. As the story unfolds, we see the love these friends have for each other, and that even in their darkest times they will always be there for each other. There were so many emotional moments throughout the book, I was cheering for Nora, praying with Estella, crying for Hester, and wishing for relief for Sheldon. June is a rockstar, she stayed strong and never took advantage of any of her friends vulnerabilities. The mystery portion of this book was intense, I had some of the puzzle put together, but I did miss a few pieces, and was surprised about who the villain was. I’ve been reading consistently this month but somehow I’m not feeling too good and that’s definitely been affecting what I’m reading. So I thought something comforting would be the right pick and what can be more comforting than this lovely new installment in my favorite cozy mystery series. I know I’ve mentioned this many times but I have to say again, I so wish Miracle Springs was a really town, Miracle Books and Gingerbread House existed, and I could go there for a vacation. Even though a HP I’ve been reading consistently this month but somehow I’m not feeling too good and that’s definitely been affecting what I’m reading. I know I’ve mentioned this many times but I have to say again, I so wish Miracle Springs was a really town, Miracle Books and Gingerbread House existed, and I could go there for a vacation. Even though a HP reference right on the first page irritated me, I continued reading but I do wish that the author would discontinue its usage. The writing is light and soothing right from the get go, even though we get some bad vibes at times just like our main character Nora. I also liked how the author managed to connect little plot points from the first book here and give little hints throughout before the final reveal. There were actually quite a few mysteries to solve here and I could only guess one, but the way the characters deduced the clues was quite fun. As usual there were many book recommendations given all through the story, and it’s always fun when I’ve read most of them and can see why Nora is making those recommendations. My highlight of this book was definitely seeing the friendship of Nora and Sheriff McCabe turning into something more. They’ve always seemed sweet together but it was never the right time for them before, but I’m glad they can finally try. Their interactions are lovely and they are very understanding and supportive of each other. Hester and Andrews’s relationship is put through the wringer in this one and I can only hope they’ll be able to move forward without any resentments. There were quite a few new characters (alive and dead) that we get to know about and everyone was quite interesting. As usual, the book club meetings made me jealous that I didn’t have a girl gang like this who could meet up every week and gush over books. There was also a Blind Date Book Bash which felt like a dream and how I wished I could be transported into the pages. In the end, what new can I say which I haven’t already in my reviews of the previous installments. If you like strong female friendships, delicate relationships, cozy mysteries, an absolutely amazing book store and a mouthwatering bakery, then you can’t miss this series. It always makes my day.

I Love Sheldon! His adorable snark really adds to the whole enchilada. I liked also that it reads more real, with real life instances (re; a customer shyly asking for help regarding menstruation!) The dialogue is always believable, no crazy, stupid risks, fun characters and books. Lots of books.

The characters are each flawed in their own right but this makes them realistic, relatable, and interesting. The mystery is full of red herrings and suspense to keep glue to the book until the mystery is solved. The secondary story or stories are equally as well-written as it takes you on an emotional journey at times they don’t overwhelm the reader with too much going on. The storylines are seamlessly woven together to give the reader a wonderful escape into the town of Miracle Springs, NC and it’s residents. The Vanishing Type is #5 in The Secret, Book and Scone Society. By now we know Nora Pennington - owner of the bookshop and her three friends well. Hester owner of the Gingerbread House Bakery, Estella owner of  a salon and spa and June about to take up a new job. What stands out is that these women share so much of themselves with each other and are there to support each other through any trial. This time the focus is on Hester, or quite a bit of the mystery has to do with Hester. As her past rus The Vanishing Type is #5 in The Secret, Book and Scone Society. But... remember - trusty friends. There is a mystery about some books, some damage to books and one or two murders.  It takes awhile for all the clues to build up until finally as the reader you start to suspect just one or two. The mystery is just part of the book's appeal, this book and others in the series is full of book talk. Enough to delight any reader's heart aside from murder and mystery. I was really pleased to note I knew of some of the books. It's such fun to see what books crop up. Plus the bookshop with Nora and the wonderful helper Sheldon provide book happiness.  Another cozy mystery in this series that furthers the characters stories and makes me already looking forward to another.

In The Vanishing Type we once again meet the members of the Secret, Book, and Scone Society as they meet at June’s bookstore and analyze what is going on in their town of Miracle Springs. While each of the members of the Society is involved in some of the local happenings (be it romance, illness, family ties, and/or murder), this book’s focus is primarily on Hester. The question is: why has Hester been the subject of several disturbing developments? There are plenty of red herrings and twists in the narrative, all of which helped to keep my attention throughout. I look forward to reading more of the amateur sleuthing adventures of Nora, Estella, June, Hester, and Sheldon. Although our favorite Miracle Springs bookstore owner Nora Pennington has had a few personal changes in her life since we have last visited with her, things are going pretty smoothly. She and her assistant Sheldon have been working arduously to attract visitors to the store, even planning an event in the near future. Although unfortunately, there has been a bit of damage to a few of the books recently. It seems someone has taken a disliking to the covers of The Scarlet Letter! But then Nora gets the news that one of the friends in the society, Hester, will be getting proposed to and the others are asked to help with the planning of the proposal. Everyone is extremely excited for Hester, except for Hester. You see she has never told her fiancé about her past, and now she is afraid once he hears, he will not want to marry her. She is terribly out of sorts. As this is all going on, a man is found dead on a hiking path with an orange jacket on and with a very strange antique book in the pocket. Nora begins to wonder why he would be carrying this book. And then coincidentally, another in the series is found in the possession of an elderly woman who has passed away and whose books were donated to Nora. What are the odds these two incidences could be a coincidence? Meanwhile, as Hester is nearing a breakdown due to the stress of her secret, Estelle’s boyfriend becomes critically ill, and the women must try and focus on comforting her as best they can. As Nora races to figure out what on earth these book clues could mean, there is another murder, this one a woman who just happened to be wearing a raincoat the same color as Hester! This suddenly changes this book mystery into a life and death situation. The women must all gather their strength in so many ways to face the outcome of the mysterious deaths with the mysterious books. Will Hester’s fiancée walk away from her when he finds out what she has done? Will Hester even survive whoever it is who seems to have taken a deadly dislike of her! The Vanishing Type is another wonderful cozy mystery about a group of women who support each other no matter what the fallout. There are even book references throughout the story which are then chronicled at the end in case the reader has interest. My only question is, when will Sheldon become a true member? Thank you #NetGalley #KensingtonCozies #ElleryAdams #TheVanishingType for the advanced copy.

I rate this book 5 stars! It is awesome. It is the first book I have read from the Secret, Book, & Scone collection. I hope to get to read the other titles. I am sure readers will love this story. Love the small town mystery and sisterhood in it. Thank you for the opportunity to read and rate it. Sincerely, Debra Hicks

I had never read a cozy mystery. I had never heard of a cozy mystery but I won this book in a giveaway. I enjoyed the book. I really liked the characters but I thought there were things going on in the book that really had nothing to do with the story. There were also descriptions of things that didn’t add anything to the story. There were a lot of descriptions of food. Also the ending of the story where the villain is uncovered seemed rushed and disjointed. If the author took out some of the things that really didn’t add to the story and added more to the ending, I would have enjoyed the book more, but I’m glad I tried the genre.

Nora is worried that someone is intent on harming Hester or exposing Hester’s secret. Few people are aware that Hester gave up a baby many years ago and the terrible way her family treated her. Hester has yet to tell her beau, Deputy Jasper Andrews. A man is found dead on a hiking trail just outside Miracle Springs with no identification, but he does have a rare book in the pocket of his bright orange coat. The members of the Secret, Book, and Scone Society soon discover that the victim is connected to Hester’s past. Is someone after Hester or are they trying to expose her secret? The Vanishing Type is the fifth A Secret, Book, and Scone Society Novel. I believe this series is best read in order. While you could read The Vanishing Type on its own, you will be missing the background on the characters and the town. The Vanishing Type is well-written with developed characters. I like that they are flawed characters which makes them realistic, relatable, and interesting. I enjoy visiting Miracle Springs with its friendly residents and quaint shops. My first stop would be the bakery for some of the tasty treats and then I would head to Miracle Books. I would definitely order the hot chocolate drink with the colored marshmallows, whipped cream, and sprinkles (it sounded so good). I like that the author has included a character with fibromyalgia. Many people do not understand the disease nor believe the pain it causes. Sheldon is such a delightful person, and I am glad that he does not let the condition keep him down for long. He is a lively individual with a heart a gold. I had to laugh at what happened at story time with the book involving snakes. The romance between Nor and Sheriff McCabe is progressing nicely. I am glad that it is moving at a slower pace. Fans of the series will love the proposal scene. It is definitely special and unique. I love all the book references throughout the story. There are some great titles mentioned. Like Hester, Little Women is my favorite book. The mystery was wonderful. It is complex with great clues and red herrings. The secondary storyline was just as intriguing. I like how everything tied together to give readers a wonderful reading experience. I was sorry for my visit to Miracle Springs to end. The Vanishing Type has friendship, mystery, and, of course, books. The Vanishing Type is a beguiling tale with a remarkable movie theater opening, damaged books, a nameless victim, story time mayhem, beautiful book covers, a special proposal, firm friends, and a bevy of books.

When I got hold of this fifth book in the Secret, Book, and Scone Society series, I decided to circle back and read the series from the beginning. Having devoured the previous books in a day or so each, The Vanishing Type served as a fantastic finale. The characters in the series are instantly appealing. In this book, the resident baker, Hester, is confronted by her past and threats on her life. The secondary storylines of the love lives of Nora, Estella, and Hester keep things interesting. There’s been a time jump from the last book and there have been a few changes since the last book. The secondary character of Sheldon continues to provide sweet and funny moments at Nora’s bookshop. Nora’s old friend, Bobbie, participates from afar. I was delighted by little references to UNC and UVA in this book…though most people wouldn’t find them notable. An interesting change is the more formal denouement at the end. The different pieces of the puzzle come together as Nora, Estella, and June bake at Hester’s house. It was a lovely end to a book that had some tumultuous moments!

This series just keeps getting better! Wishing for Miracle Springs and Miracle Books to be real, as I just want to be part of it all. I could spend hours, rather days in Miracle Books. Nora, Hester, June and Estella are flawed women, who truly have a special heartwarming friendship. They have become a family that cares for one another as well as caring about the community they live in. This story took me on an adventure of who the killer was and how books played a part of solving the murder. Str This series just keeps getting better! The Secret, Book and Scone Society members must unravel the connection between a series of rare books containing hidden messages and the man found dead on a hiking trail. Enjoyed reading how these women support and care for each other during the search for the truth. This is my first Ellery Adams book but it will not be my last. ❤️
