Everyone who was invited to the house knows Walter-well, they know him a little, anyway. Some met him in childhood; some met him months ago. And Walter’s always been a little…off. Listen Tynion is out here killing the comic book game! This was exceptional. I had absolutely no idea where the story was going. And when that reveal happened I was completely blown away. See Tynion’s writing always leaves you guessing. There are so many directions that he can take stories in with most of them surprising the hell out of you. This was no different. I don’t want to say too much about what it’s about because it’ll take away the thrill of reading it but let me tell you...ITS AMAZING Listen Tynion is out here killing the comic book game! The artwork isn’t what I traditional love in terms of how fluid it was BUT it worked perfectly for this story. This is going to be a hit! I promise you it will be!

The Nice House on the Lake opens with a startling reveal, showing the fire and destruction that's waiting for these folks as Ryan Cane (aka “The Artist”) sets the stage. This not only gets right into the story but also puts us on edge throughout the entire issue. How could things possibly go from this idyllic estate in the woods to this dystopian setup that Ryan is sporting? You can read James' full review at Horror DNA by clicking here. Then all of a sudden I saw this book being talked about everyone. The hype was getting to me but I had to wait for my copy to deliver. It just came in today and WOW! Talk about living up the hype. I was instantly intrigued and can't wait to eventually read the collected edition. I just really hope the book can keeps it momentum and tell an intriguiging and mysterious story.

Best issue #1 I have read in a long time If James the IV can keep the momentum going for all 12 issues this is going to top Something is Killing the Children and even The Department of Truth.

Great art, fun paneling, and a wild premise that just, well, dang, what a hook! I’m into this.

I don’t write many reviews, but I needed to write one for this book. What if you were at a party just as the world started to end? This is the premise of a new horror/sci-fi series by Image Comics. Ten acquaintances meet up at a mysterious party held by an enigmatic be-speckled stranger who played the background of many of their lives. Walter brought these people (each with traits that he admires) and brings them together to eat, drink, and talk...about the end of civilization, as we know it. These are open ended questions that are teased in this first issue of a thought provoking miniseries. The pacing is good. The dialogue is natural. The artwork is wonderful. Image Comics, who brought us Killadelphia and Fatale, brings us another smart, art house styled horror series that will definitely leave you thinking.

A group of friends are invited to a holiday retreat at a fantastically beautiful lake house. Once they arrive they learn they can’t leave. And even if they could, is there anything left to go back to? Creepy…I love it. Tynion is so good at this. This sinister, atmospheric horror. How the story initially builds is dripping with suspense. Wow. Such an excellent first issue! It got dark really fast, and I’m very intrigued as to where this story goes next. The art isn’t what I would normally gravitate toward, but it was done well and really serves to both emphasize the horror and drive the story forward. Loved the inclusion of the character bios — I feel like this will be important in future issues. I need the next one now!

This is the good stuff right here. While the first issue is all setting up the premise, this promises to be an engaging, fun, creepy and well written series. I’ve been reading comics for 40 years and there’s a lot out there that’s just ho him. This is one of the titles that I’ll be anxiously waiting for the next issue to come out.

An incredible freaking first issue. I listen to the Talking Comics podcast and thet just loved the first issue so much I had to check this out and I am glad I did. Tyion gets you in the first couple of paragraphs and never lets you go. Alvarez's art is amazing and the color palate used is perfect for this book also. I am on board for the rest of this run. Bring your genitalia and read this ish So people are chosen for some reasons - at least the one that has been revealed in this issue - is that they all came into contact with Walter. And they are all invited to Walter’s house in northern Wisconsin, the titular Nice House on the Lake. While they’re there, the world goes to hell in a hand basket. Read it.. ASAP

This comic has everthing I want from a mystery reading, a gathering of strangers or long lost friends, an unknown threat for humanity and a house and its owner that doesn't let people escape. I need more. Overhyped. A good end of the world scenario from a broad perspective, but nothing more. Maybe the point was to create a bunch of uninteresting characters just in order to kill them off. I’m fine with that. These characters are all pretty unlikeable.
