So, Man-Thing and some crystal lady from Weirdworld had a kid named "Toth," and this kid got shattered. An investigation ensued. Why would Howard the Duck be any sorcerer's first call to investigate an attempted murder at this magic school? He has no real powers of his own, and he isn't inherently magical. He's just a guy from Duckworld. He's a joke character. There was no real need for a joke character, given how the tone of this issue was trying for "grave" or "suspense." Why not the White Tiger, Angela Del Toro? She was an FBI agent, and her powers are even mystical in origin. Or Jessica Jones, if they wanted to hire a serious private investigator? (Albeit, one whose powers aren't magical in nature.) Or Jessica Drew? Or Moon Knight? Or any number of other more serious options, all of whom would be more logical with their status as Avengers or Avenger allies? There was a startling lack of adult involvement. Toth's parents showed up, but otherwise we pretty much just saw Brother Voodoo and Howard the Duck. I hate this title. I hate the Humberto Ramos artwork. I hate the crowded cast of characters. I hate that we know so very little about any of them, but for some reason fans get on Goodreads and gush about how great this book is. One girl we know literally nothing about except that she's a zombie. In this issue, her one contribution was to comment upon her intensive skin-care regiment-- because she's a zombie. Really gripping stuff.

3.5 stars. Someone has attacked and shattered Toth. Brother Voodoo brings in an interesting detective to investigate. Big cliff hanger when they find out what going on.

Someone has attacked and shattered Toth, but who can it be? There's only one solution, you call in Howard the Duck to investigate while the faculty try to put Toth back together again! This is a classic whodunnit, but with all the mystical twists you'd expect from Strange Academy. You see, the person who did it doesn't know they did it, because they were possessed by an item of clothing! It's fun, it's funny, it's touching and it's brilliant. In other words: It's Strange Academy! Someone has attacked and shattered Toth, but who can it be? The mystery was a little straight forward, and I'm not really sure who the Howard the Duck crossover was for to be honest, but the character interactions and art are on par (I've recently learned that Ramos' art style is very polarizing apparently, personally I like it).
