3.5* Ivy: A human. Alone on the planet Earth, so volunteered to relocate to another planet. A journey that would take sixty earth years and therefore would travel in a Cryochamber and be woken by trained medical staff on arrival. Ketahn: A Vrix. 7’ tall. Torso humanoid. 2 sets of arms and 6 long legs. His mouth is just a slash but with a pair of fangs. Mandibles, where a human’s cheekbones would have been. Black skin with white and purple markings. Something along the lines of - WTF Lorraine! You who sends in anyone who is in the vicinity, to get rid of that spider you’ve just seen…..now reading a Spider Romance? Girrrrrrrrrl, you need to see a Psychiatrist! And maybe I do? I would try and explain it, but I just can’t 🤷‍♀️. I saw that cover and just had to read it. It’s as simple as that. But what I will say is, the word building and the detailing, this author delivered, was phenomenal. It was very in-depth, leaving nothing to the imagination- even going for a wee (I kid you not). Now I get why this won’t appeal to everyone (and I’m not talking just about the intricate, long detailing here, I’m talking about the spiders) but if you want something different, or maybe just morbid curiosity? Give this a try. It’s on the KU Library if you are interested. But be warned, it’s a trilogy and this one ends on a cliffhanger. What I would like to see in the next book: Ketahn roping in (or should that be webbing-in?) his two best friends, Urkot and Rekosh, to meet his Mate (Ivy) and get them to help him to see if any of the cryochambers are still viable? Of course both his two friends then meet their own Mates when they rescue the survivors. Oh, and I forgot the Vrix Queen. That evil bitch has to go! That’s what I want. Will I get it though? 🤞🤞🤞

I really enjoyed this it was very imaginative with some excellent world-building. So before I go any further just a heads up the Alien hero in this story is a sort of giant spider type with numerous appendages web-spinning capabilities and mandibles which is sort of the reason I picked this one up. Ketahn our hero lives out in the tangle away from his people. He’s built his nest way out in the forest away from his own kind and only returns to take his offerings and supply his mandated hunters meat portion. He hates their Queen who is obsessed with claiming him as her mate and wants nothing to do with life in his old home. Ever since the war, he’s kept to himself. Venturing to a place other hunters avoid Ketahn falls into a pit and discovers a strange metal ruin with old unfamiliar bones. He also finds a bizarre creature that he’s never glimpsed before suspended in a death-like sleep. Accidentally triggering the cryogenic chamber Evie awakes to a strange new world one she could never have imagined. When Evie signed up to be a colonist on a new world she never imagined the ship would crash now awake it seems like only yesterday she departed Earth for far horizons. Naturally frightened and with a scary-looking alien spider, the only thing standing between her and death Evie will have to put herself in this aliens care if she has any hope of surviving her harsh new reality. There was an initial language barrier they did learn each other’s language relatively swiftly but hey ho this is fiction so that didn’t bother me too much I was able to suspend my disbelief here. There’s also danger in the form of the dangerous landscape and also Ketahn’s own people pose a risk especially the queen herself and the females of his species are even bigger and scarier looking than the males. This one was very slow burn but with lots of chemistry and tension and when we finally got there it was intense and super hot. I adored that claiming scene. Both Evie and Ketahn both have to overcome their natural instincts that tell them that to want each other is wrong even when it feels so right. This was really well written and this is book one of a trilogy and though there is still more to come and I’m excited to see how this progresses It also didn’t leave you hanging either. I was satisfied with where we left things and I’m content to wait for the next instalment which I definitely will be reading. This ones for all you folks that like your aliens to look like aliens and this hero is definitely one of those he’s also a complete sweetheart. 3.5 stars! I.... never thought I’d read about a spider alien romance. And it didn’t weird me out! 😂 I genuinely enjoyed the slow burn romance between our human heroine and alien hero but I sadly wasn’t invested in the outside plot regarding alien queen, which took up a good chunk of the book. This is the first in a trilogy that follows the same couple and I’ll probably continue reading, but after the series is complete.

3 'Unpopular Opinion' Stars! This is the first book in The Spider’s Mate trilogy and features Ketahn and Ivy. Ketahn is not human...he is an alien that closely resembles a spider. Ivy is terrified (understandably) of Ketahn at first but their bond and relationship grows the longer they are together. But not all is what it seems. The cruel Queen that rules wants Ketahn as her mate, Ketahn never planned on being a pawn in her sick rule and Ivy isn’t sure what her future looks like but wants Ketahn in ways she hasn’t fully come to terms with. Will Ketahn be able to protect Ivy from the unforgiving jungle and the Queen? Will Ivy accept her place by his side? Can Ketahn and Ivy help her fellow passengers that were on the ship that landed on the planet? I struggled with the first 60% of this story. There was a language barrier between Ketahn and Ivy and normally that wouldn’t bother me but I found myself trying to figure out what was actually being said rather than paying attention to their romance and the plot in general. OR maybe I’m just dumb. When I wasn’t trying to decipher what they were saying, I was skimming paragraphs because the details about things were a little drawn out and excessive. I got bored. After the 60% mark, their language barrier kind of just cleared up which seemed a bit abrupt (I know I know I was just complaining I didn’t like it) and I was stillllll waiting for some more heat between the two of them. We didn’t get any decent steam between them until closer to the 80% mark and while good, I wish there had been more sooner. The world, while not completely fleshed out in my opinion, is promising and once I got past the 60% mark, I actually got excited about the next book in this series. I don’t like trilogies but I am hooked enough at this point to find out what happens. So overall, I didn’t love this...I didn’t hate it BUT I am intrigued enough to continue.

An unusual and fascinating story! I was uncertain how a book about a human and a spider-like being could turn into a romance, but Tiffany Roberts has done just that. And done it well! I loved to read about their relationship and how is progressed--these characters really complimented each other. The world building was well done but I felt that because of it happening at the beginning at the book, it slowed the pace before it could actually get started. That being said, after you pass the first 5 chapters...you're in for an amazing ride! I loved the plot and I really commend the authors with their way to tell a story. Their writing really allowed for me to envision what the Vrix (species of Katahn) looked like and how..special appendages looked and worked. I also thought it was amazing how Tiffany and Robert created a whole species with their own culture, rituals, mating habits as well a whole language. The amount of work that must have went into writing this story is extraordinary and I commend both Tiffany and Robert on this wonderful start to what appears to be an amazing trilogy!

3.5 stars! This is hard to rate because I did enjoy it, and I will probably read the next one. I liked Ketahn and Ivy's romance, and I loveddd the freaky spider kink. (Yes, I may need to seek professional help. No, I am not ashamed.) I do feel, however, that the book was in need of a solid edit. There were so many extraneous descriptions, and often a character would spend an entire chapter "realizing" something that could have been summarized in one paragraph. I also had to wait until 80% through for my spider kink, (80%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and that's just a little long, people! (It was very good when it arrived, I will say!) Like I said, though, I enjoyed the premise overall, and I'll probably read the next one when it comes out. (I also found it so weird and uncomfortable that the female vrix were bigger! It totally threw me. It made sense cuz of the whole spider thing, but I like my men to be the biggest and strongest, thanks. Maybe that makes me as evolved as a cavewoman, but I don't care. Throw me over your big, beefy shoulder, baby!)

3.5* rounded up because how is it possible I enjoyed it??? I mean a spider! WTF!!! I am seriously arachnophobic. I like spiders but even writing the word makes my whole body itch. My work has a rather beautiful and oversized piece of art in the shape of spider, and painted with flowers, that I can't look at without jumping sideways. So I am shocked I was able to read this book. However I was intrigued by Lorraine's excellent review and the lovely cover so I decided to give it a try. So I am shocked I was able to read this book. However I was intrigued by Lorraine's excellent review and the lovely cover so I decided to give it a try. The blurb gives a perfectly good description. But I think for most people the spider issue will be what stops people from giving it a go. I was impressed with the way the authors managed to ease the reader into it. The book starts with Ketahn's point of view. He notes things about himself and his surroundings but in a fairly natural way. No one thinks of themselves as other, nor do they tend to think of all their body parts as a whole. So the reader only gets small bits and has to piece it together. This is the kind of world building I much prefer. It could even have been a bit slower. Still one starts to feel for Ketahn and the issues he is facing long before we meet the human, who naturally gives a different and much more detailed human-centered description. But by that point I liked Ketahn so I was only marginally stressed by it. What I quite enjoyed was Ketahn's thoughts on the strange creature he has discovered. He has a lot of curiosity but it takes a while for him to adjust his thinking on her. At first he thinks she might make a good pet. As he learns more his view of Ivy changes and an attraction grows between them. Both of them are rather horrified at the thought of interspecific sex. And yet it is hard to deny the attraction. And of course they give in eventually. The negatives are that while it technically has a HEA it doesn't feel that way because it ends on a cliffhanger. Still not so annoying as to cause me to lower my rating. I look forward to book 2 (of 3).

2.5/5 Just file it under "exposure therapy for arachnophobia". This was... okay, I guess. Is just read a spider alien romance and it was... great?!? I think I’m in shock. I went into this dubious and came out a little bit shellshocked. I’m definitely questioning my sanity. Two, if an arachnophobe like me can fall for an alien spider man, then the characterisation in this world must be pretty epic. Three, the Is just read a spider alien romance and it was... great?!? Yeah, if you were to ask whether I would ever read a romance involving an alien spider being, I'd probably laugh, but actually this was pretty entertaining hahaha. This one was kinda boring to me. I liked the world building and everything. But I felt like the characters fell a little flat. I didn’t like how it started in the hero’s point of view first, sometimes that works and I’ve read books like it and enjoyed it but in this book it made me feel disconnected from the heroine.

Impressive as long as you have no phobias against spiders. I have often thought of plot lines involving sentient male insectnoids and arachnoids with female Earthers. Lots of ideas but never placed them on paper. So when I saw Ensnared on Amazon, I had to buy it. Some of the reviews say Ensnared isn't a romance novel. It is, but it is a slow-burner. So when I saw Ensnared on Amazon, I had to buy it. Some of the reviews say Ensnared isn't a romance novel. It is, but it is a slow-burner. Ketahn is a male weaver/now hunter for his people, the Vrix. The Vrix are arachnoids, the males with six legs and four arms while the females only have four legs and four arms. There's serious sexual dimorphism involved in that the females are seriously taller and larger (9-10 feet tall) than the males (7.5-8 feet tall). The female Vrix are the warrior leaders and serious fighters. The males, while fighters themselves when in battle, are usually hunters, miners, quarry folk, healers, etc. The Vrix females lay many eggs which, when hatched, are brood-siblings to each other. There is a sire and a dam, and the relationships between them all can be very close. As for Ketahn, all but he and his warrior sister Ahnset, who is one of the Queen Zurvashi's personal bodyguards — the Queen's Fang — are the only survivors. Queen Zurvashi wants Ketahn to sire her next brood as she considers. him the only one worthy enough, but he refuses as he cannot stand her cruel ways despite the advantages. So he banishes himself into the Tangle — the vast jungle of his world — to provide meat for the inhabitants of Takarahl, the stronghold of his people. Ivy Foster, on the other hand, is a Human who is part of a Human colonization project on another planet. For reasons unknown, the colony ship crashes on Ketahn's planet, and by accident, Ketahn falls into the humungous pit created by such a crash and stumbles across Ivy's cryopod. He inadvertently releases her and takes her to his nest. From that point on, it's a day-in-the-life of a Vrix and a Human. Like I said, the relationship is a slow-burner but not that slow. I found this novel to be far better written than many I have recently read. I enjoyed the world-crafting done by Tiffany Roberts. A lot of thought went into this planet's creation, including its own mythos and legends. Much time was spent in this world's development of its own fauna and flora. By the time I finished reading Ensnared, I knew exactly what Ketahn and Ivy looked like, what the Vrix looked like (without having to refer to the front cover art!), and a rough idea of the Tangle and its various beautiful locations. I was extremely sympathetic to the main character Ketahn and Ivy, but I also appreciated the time and effort spent developing Ketahn's friends and family within Takarahl, and I hope we get a chance to see more of them in the next two books! I didn't find much in terms of continuity issues. I was able to continuously suspend my disbelief (which is essential in a tale like this), and the writing and its style were excellent though not necessarily perfect. (But face it! Not even Tolkien was perfect!) I am definitely looking forward to the rest of this interesting trilogy. In fact, I have already pre-purchased the next two books — Enthralled and Bound — which are to be published in the next few years. Yes, I know some people might consider the ending of Ensnared to be a cliffhanger. Believe me, I've read worse and more frustrating cliffhangers than this one. But considering how long this book has been already, I doubt I could justify the recommendation to compressing the next two titles into one big book. Too much info, too much action. I could even see the resurrection of the others still in suspended sleep in future tales, but we have yet to deal with Queen Zurvashi and why so many of the Vrix in Takarahl are starving of meat deficiency. So much to know still... So much to know... I highly recommend this book to any who are hard-core monster lovers... except those with spider phobias. Nope. Those with arachnophobia are recommended to steer clear from this trilogy. Excellent writing, Tiffany Roberts!

The world building is amazing, the attention to detail literally brings this universe to life in the readers imagination. The characters are well written and your drawn to the male lead Ketahn immediately he's strong, smart, defiant and more curious than he should be. He has lost much and that loss was cause by a callous, cruel queen 👑that wants to take what's over of his life. His free will. He will not be subjugated, he will not stand down Ketahn will find his own way even if it means leaving the rest of his people behind. While hunting he almost falls to his death but care steps in and he lands deep within a pit thought to house the spirits of the dead. He explores and what he finds is something so out of him s element he doesn't know what to make of it. When he finds a chamber with a strange figure in it he leans closer and hits something that changes his life forever. The pod like thing releases the strange figure, and it's female and alive. He rescues her and flees back to his nest. Ivy a woman running from her last who volunteered to be apart of a colonization project. She was placed is stasis and the journey was supposed to take 60years, but she wakes up to a spider like alien who is terrifying and strikingly handsome all at the same time. She doesn't know what to think. She just knows that something horrible has gone wrong. It takes a long time and a lot of patience for both Ivy and Ketahn to begin to understand one another. Trust develops slowly and a friendship blossoms between them. As that friendship grows they see many similarities between them a fascination grows stronger between them their bodies differences they thoughts seem to enthralling both of them. Their attraction, and chemistry is real and vibrant and seriously tangible. I honestly can't believe how much I really enjoyed joyed this story. There is so much going on besides the growing relationship between Ivy and Ketahn. The life he left behind , a cruel queen and more humans that survived the crash. No wonder Tiffany Roberts needs multiple books to truly tell this tale. If the next two are half as good as this first one this will be one of the best sci-fi alien romance trilogy that I've ever read. God I still can't believe I found a spider alien sexy!!!! I highly recommend you give this story a read you will not be disappointed💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖

No future issues. This is a really good read, this was an ‘in between reads’ read for me and honestly it was so easy to zone right back into this book each and every time, it was so easy remember what happened and who the characters are and what was going on in that moment. I’m fascinated to see where this trilogy goes and hope more of the characters get books!

Tiffany Roberts pulls it off again! At first I was unsure of the book since the blurb made it sound like the author was doing the ‘fated mate’ trope. However, I didn’t get that feel while reading the book, so that was good news. The relationship between Ivy and Ketahn was believable as it developed organically; there were humorous moments like when (view spoiler)[Ivy peed on his rug (hide spoiler)] . One of the best parts? Spider silk play. ;) A star was docked from my rating, because Ivy and Ket Tiffany Roberts pulls it off again! Yes, I see “alien romance trilogy” in the title, but I assumed that each book would be a self-contained story with different main characters like their Kraken series. Don’t let that deter you from reading Ensnared, though! It’s one of the most enjoyable sci-fi romances I read this year. Major props to the cover artist as they were faithful to the descriptions of the main characters, even down to purple and silver markings & the silk dress.

I am breathless. This was stunning. I'm breathless. The world is masterfully crafted, and the writing is something splendid to behold. Usually fantasy romance is lacking in some aspect, but the politics, the action sequences- everything was perfect. The story of this world was interesting from the start. Ketahn grew on me, even though he's a "spider man" and Ivy was at first horrified and afraid. She grew to trust him. Good story, strong male alpha. Ends on a cliffhanger*arrrrrgh* The story of this world was interesting from the start. I also know this book unlike many alien romance novels is full length rather than a novella which I am looking forward to as I always feel the novellas seem rushed towards the end because they are shorter. We are first introduced to Ketahn who a vrix or spider like creature. I was surprised we were introduced to the male first as we always seem to start from the female perspective but I have a feeling there is reason behind that. We learn that Ketahn is a hunter choosing to spend most of his time in the jungle known as the Tangle. However, he has recently been propositioned again by Queen Zurvashi to become her mate which is something that Ketahn definitely doesn’t want as he hates Zurvashi. We learn that since become Queen, Zurvashi is letting her own people starve and risks sending the hunters out on Offering Day which is something highly unusual. Speaking of offerings, Ketahn’s offering is also to let the Queen know he won’t be becoming her mate ever. This interaction was brilliant filled with tension as Zurvashi basically blackmails Ketahn with his place in society if he doesn’t bend to her wishes and we get to see Zurvashi completely annihilate a challenger to her throne as she just how dangerous this female is. Ketahn does manage to leave and get back out hunting in the Tangle but things don’t go to plan and he ends up falling into a really deep pit which seems to be part of an underground labyrinth which he begins exploring. While finding some strange symbols, writing and artifacts, Ketahn also notes the many skeletons in the pit and wonders what happened there. However, he quickly comes upon some cocoons and one still seems to be occupied by a sleeping female. As he approaches her Ketahn is spoken to by a disembodied voice but he doesn’t understand what it is saying, all he understands is that he has a connection with this female and proceeds to take her back to his den. He notes the differences between them and is obviously aware that she is from a different species, one he hasn’t seen before which means she would be rare given that he is a hunter and comes across all different kinds of animals and plants almost daily. As she is asleep and Ketahn can’t get her name he takes to calling her Eight, which is the number of divine beings that the vrix people worship. So far, I have to say that Ensnared is interesting and intriguing and there hasn’t been a single spicy scene which is a real change of pace that I am actually enjoying quite a lot although I can’t wait for “Eight” to wake up and see what her reaction to Ketahn is going to be. We learn that the girl’s name is Ivy Foster, she does have an interesting story as I suspected. It turns out she was aboard a ship called the Somnium heading for a planet called Xolea which was to be the new Earth and now I have two theories. Either Ketahn’s planet is Xolea and Ivy doesn’t know it or her ship crash landed on the way to Xolea and she never exited her cryosleep which would explain the dead bodies and her still being asleep when Ketahn finds her. She is now obviously awake and very confused and suffering effects from cryosleep like being very tired and so hungry that it causes her physical pain. However, there is a language barrier between her and Ketahn and with no technology to deal with this we are treated to a hilarious scene of them going back and forth trying to understand each other and it does come but only single words here and there. At the point Ketahn mentions that Ivy has been with him for a full moon cycle, which if it is anything like the lunar calendar means she has been with him around a month in the Tangle. During this time they have been teaching each other their language so communication is easier but still no where near perfect which I am enjoying greatly especially when Ketahn begins giving Ivy lessons on how to survive in the Tangle and the differences between their species make themselves known again. However, Ivy this time around adapts and uses her own skills and advantages to be able to do things similar to Ketahn even if it isn’t in the same way. Now, he has to return to the city in order to make another offering as they seem to happen every month, but he has learnt from his friends and fellow hunters that even though they are bringing in a steady supply of meat none of it seems to be finding its way to the people that need it which infuriates Ketahn. With a friend he comes up with a way to sneak meat past the Queen’s guards so that it can be distributed as it needs to be. However, I am very surprised that Ketahn hasn’t realises that Ivy is his mate or heartsthread yet but then given the fact he never wanted a mate and the only affections he got were from the awful Queen that can be forgiven. Learning about Ivy’s past was also interesting, it seems she moved out young to be with her boyfriend who betrayed her and posted sexual things of her on the internet leading her parents to turn their backs on her. She then living rough in her car for a long time just trying to survive although we don’t yet know how she ended up on the spaceship to Xolea at all. We have also learnt the cocoons Ketahn referred to are the cryosleep pods meaning there may be more humans that haven’t awaken but Ketahn didn’t mention any of them or didn’t show an interest in them but Ivy wants to get back there one day to see if she is the only one and to figure out how she ended up on Ketahn’s planet in the first place. As Ketahn prepares to return to the city he is worried about what the Queen will do but he knows if he doesn’t return she will send the hunters after him and that isn’t something he wants for himself or Ivy. However, upon returning and meeting with his friend he learns that their meat smuggling plan isn’t going to stay hidden forever and he suggests spreading the word among those affected so that they will have safety in numbers if the Queen ever learns about it and they prepare to go and make their offering. Upon entering the chamber, Ketahn realises that the Queen isn’t there with only means something has happened and when the guards close in around him he knows what they have come for and drag him off to face the Queen. In his old home, she explains that he has no choice in the matter and will become her mate whether he likes it or not otherwise she will take his sister and his friends away from him as he doesn’t fear death at her hands. Ketahn in response challenges her but the Queen is a feared warrior for a reason and Ketahn soon finds himself on the defensive. By the time she lets him go Ketahn realises how close he was to death but the only thing on his mind the entire fight was Ivy which should tell him that she is his mate but he still hasn’t put it together yet but I have a feeling he will soon. Ketahn leaves as quickly as he can to return to Ivy but the pair has an argument shortly after his return leading Ivy to storm off to make herself useful only to be attacked by one of the creatures living in the Tangle. Ketahn does come to her rescue and kills the beast but not before he gets a good swipe at Ivy but luckily the wound isn’t too bad. We also get one of the most awkward scene here as Ivy has to a) explain human anatomy to Ketahn and b) explain the differences in their mating practices which embarrasses the hell out of both of them. Ivy has some trauma when it comes to relationship as her last boyfriend tricked her into signing documents meaning she wouldn’t press charges and when she turned 18 he essentially raped her and robbed her of her virginity before posting it all over the internet and there was nothing she could do about it but she feels safe with Ketahn but the trust issues do cause problems from time to time but they work through it. Things seems to be getting pretty serious between Ketahn and Ivy despite them not having many sexual charged encounters throughout the entire novel. When Ivy explains about wedding dresses and their purpose and meaning Ketahn immediately sets out to make her one despite not weaving for a long time. However, the Queen disrupts this process announcing that the High Claiming is soon and Ketahn will be hers but he once again refuses her all but fleeing back to Ivy. His sister pays him a visit and virtually begs her brother to mate with the Queen but he refuses as he doesn’t want her, he wants Ivy but no one knows about her yet. The High Claiming comes and goes and Ketahn knows it is only a matter of time before the Queen sends someone after him for not being present during this. However, in the meantime, he has been training Ivy and intends to take her back to the pit where he found her and when she realises this she is both nervous and excited. When they re-enter the ship, Ivy realises that they must have crashed because they are only in a portion of ship and it is in poor shape. She realises upon seeing some of the other cryochambers that she could have easily died her but there are seven others still safely asleep and she wants to wake them but Ketahn is against this as he has had a hard time keeping Ivy alive and teaching her the skills she needs alone and he can’t do it with seven more. Before they can come to a decision they are interrupted by one of the Queen’s guard, the highest one, the Queen’s Claw has come to find Ketahn. A fight breaks out between the pair and although Ketahn stops before killing his opponent, he succumbs to his wounds and dies. Ketahn knows what he has done in killing the Queen’s Claw and the repercussions of this and is horrified at what he has brought upon them. Overall, Ensnared was a beautiful start to this series and I can’t wait to read the next book, Enthralled as soon as I can because I need to know what happens next for Ketahn and Ivy.
