Flip the script to an EPIC FAIL that ended in a near-fatal car accident, and after six weeks in a coma, David flushed me and our marriage of over two decades down the toilet I’d been scrubbing for years. Now a single divorcée with chump change in my pocket, I’m forced to move into my childhood home. And to make matters worse, the place seems to be haunted. Or maybe I’m just having a nervous breakdown over the mystery of my brother’s suicide. His creepy journals have been certainly keeping me awake at night. I could swear a strange entity is floating through my midst. But hey, at least the hot handyman, helping me fix up the place, won’t stop walking around the property half dressed. Geez, between the menopausal hormones and getting the house ready to sell, my muscles are twinging in places I didn’t know existed. If my therapist was right, and life is a do-over, then why is everything such a crisis? Midlife or not, I could swear I was cursed. Cheated and deprived financially and emotionally, Brooke was forced to return to her hometown and there face another devastating and mysterious situation. Settling in the house that she had inherited and trying to understand and sort out the mess she encountered, she discovered something else that was sinister and harmful. Luckily, she had the support of her best friends or else she would have found herself alone and dealing with gossip and bad intentions. Interesting, intriguing and entertaining as Brooke from being a housewife with few expectations and interests, she is revealed as a strong, determined woman with a supernatural mission with a previously defined purpose in life. It was sad to read how Brooke's relationship with David turned out. She made me feel emotional and angry since she did not deviate much from the reality that is lived on a daily basis. The mystery was scary and some of it got me the chills, but the witticisms and humorous comments that Brooke made every so often kept me entertained. I didn't have time to get bored with the detailed narratives and descriptions that sparked my imagination and kept me reading because I wanted to know what was going on with the house. I liked that the explanations made sense and were in line with what was happening. After so much misfortune I loved what was in store for Brooke, that I would not have imagined it before. Action, suspense, mystery, friendships, evil, spells, some funny scenes, an intriguing cat and a vault with a difficult key and maybe the beginning of something romantic for Brooke. Voluntarily reviewed this copy which I really liked.

THE GHOST IS CLEAR is the first book in the Series of Midlife Curses and it starts off sort of sad. Brooke is fighting a losing battle to save her marriage to a complete jerk who blames her for everything. A series of even more unfortunate events send her back home and then the whole story really picks up. I thought Brooke was an amazing character. She is no wallflower, even when her body hurts, and she is certainly not afraid of a little elbow grease. The pace of this book is smooth, taking you from her disastrous anniversary meal, through to the satisfying conclusion. There is a teaser for the next book, which made me smile. I love how Brooke is in her mid-forties, with a body that aches, and the determination to make things happen. All in all, this was a brilliant read, and a fantastic beginning to a new series! I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this book, and I eagerly await the next. ** same worded review will appear elsewhere ** * A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. Brooke"s husband David treated her badly. I wanted to strangle him as well as have him die in the car accident they were in. GRRRRR. Brooke is a kinder person than I. There are lots of twists and turns in this story especially among the ghosts that Brooke is just beginning to learn about. I love this type of story which contains some suspense, some paranormal and a hot guy for Brooke to ogle. Oh, and he is younger than her. Hehehe

That was a lot of fun and I can’t wait to see where Brooke’s story goes next. As the first book in the new series, there’s a lot of time and attention spent introducing us to the characters and setting the stage for where we’re about to go. I really liked Brooke. The fact that she’s starting over at a time in her life when society tells us she should be setting her burdens down, makes her someone I think a lot of us can relate to. Though, her pathological refusal to face some of her problems head on made me want to tear my hair out from the roots. I adored the little tweak the authors gave the mythology. And to my mind, that tiny little twist feels more realistic than the original myth. I’m curious to see what other curses and calamities Brooke is going to face in the future. I’m also dying to see her soon-to-be-ex-husband get everything he so richly deserves. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the authors.

I loved this story! Brooke pulled me in from the very beginning! She is someone that you can immediately connect to and root for from the beginning. He gets out with minor scrapes while Brooke is seriously injured and ends up in a coma for a few weeks. I loved her kids too and how they try and step in and get their dad to be better and not be such a jerk. The moment she wakes up from a coma he decides to come in and ask for a divorce. He is an utter jerk and really makes you want to kiss his butt!!! I loved the snarky humor in this story as well! Brookes support group was fantastic and I loved watching her come into herself and rebuild her self confidence and find a new purpose in life. She has to figure out what she wants now and where she is going to go as her kids are adults and her marriage of 20 years is gone and her ex is a major a**. Brooke ends up back in Eerie and discovers ghosts and a completely different calling than she was expecting. She has to figure out what is going on and how to deal with all of it in the middle of everything else. I really enjoyed this story. Once I started reading it I wanted to continue to figure out what was going to happen next. I wanted things to get better for Brooke and I loved the way that things developed. I am very excited for the next book in the series!

A fresh start with a chance to make a difference in the world. I found myself rooting for Brooke. Her attitude was on point and watching her adapt and become a stronger version of herself was entertaining.

Loved it This book was great. I'm so glad it's going to be a series. The fact that its main character is in her 40 's is great. Now after all my years reading romance and other books I'm getting one closer to my age. I absolutley cringe when I read books about certain romances where the girl or guy are 18 to their early 20's. I feel exactly like a mom saying "What are you doing??? Your only 20 you cant even legally drink yet and your doing that???" So it makes it very hard to read those books. Never a spoiler in my reviews, here's what you need to know: This is a great start to a new series featuring Brook, who's middle-aged and relatable! Interesting characters both good guys and bad guys are cast in this easy albeit emotional read. Thank you to the author, AJ Nuest, for the opportunity to read and review The Ghost is Clear. OOOOH! Another fantastic midlife paranormal woman’s story with a mythological base. Love it!! Wonderful cast of characters who I cannot wait to learn more about well as the powers Brooke has recently inherited. There were a few grammatical issues throughout this story which is why I gave this one only four stars. But, these issues didn’t affect my enjoyment of the story. THE GHOST IS CEAR definitely goes “bump” in the night! Brooke has enough to deal with, without getting grief from the groaning house of her childhood. She nearly dies in a car crash, languishes in a coma for six weeks, and the day she wakes up, her douche of a husband kicks her and their twenty year marriage to the curb. She’s broke, her brother committed suicide while she was in the coma, and the only place she has to go is the house their mother left them in the town where she grew up. Pretty good This is a pretty good story about a middle aged woman starting over after her husband files for divorce. The first part of this book is all about Brooke struggling with her husband while he files for a divorce. We don't find out about her supernatural abilities until about three quarters of the way through the book. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because there seems to be a jump in the relationship with Brooke and Mitch between one chapter to the next. This is the perfect introduction to Women's Paranormal fiction! The characters are relatable and the plot is steady. First let me say, the editing and missing words made it difficult to read this story. Seems something went wrong there. With that said, it was an interesting story that rolled a long in some chapters and dragged a long in others. Most of the story was back story that slowed down the story. The characters are interesting and as the series evolves, may become better.

I enjoyed this story of a typical empty nester finding out her husband is really horrible and after her diverse ends up back in her home town. That is when things get weird, funny, and paranormal. The characters were well written and made me both love and hate them. Part entertaining, part mystery and suspense, it was fun to read.
