Personally, I think the premise of 5-ingredient books is a waste of time. Especially when you are talking about whole food plant-based ingredients. After eating this way for several years, I've found it's important to add lots of different seasonings and ingredients to make up for what salt, oil, and sugar can do for a dish. But I'm always a sucker for books with these titles. Other than the breakfast smoothies, most of these dishes would be greatly enhanced by extra ingredients. But I'm always a sucker for books with these titles. Other than the breakfast smoothies, most of these dishes would be greatly enhanced by extra ingredients. And the author does what many 5-ingredient recipe creators do. She has you make "staples" in advance (such as spice blends, cheezy sauces, etc) that allow the given recipe to only have 5 ingredients if you count each staple as an ingredient. She said that she makes many of these items in advance. If you cook that way, then this book will probably work for you. Otherwise, there are better books for this way of cooking.

I went into this looking for some easy recouped to throw into the week when I am busy, and somewhat got what I was looking for in this book. Some of the recipes are straight forward and look good, and if you want quick healthy meals they seem great. However... if you title your book 5-ingredient cookbook you should really stop having one of the “ingredients” be a whole ass recipe from another section of the book because that’s way more than 5 ingredients. I mean I don’t really mind because perso I went into this looking for some easy recouped to throw into the week when I am busy, and somewhat got what I was looking for in this book. I mean I don’t really mind because personally I think using more ingredients is fun, but it’s just a teeny tiny bit deceptive is all. Now that I am off my soap box, I do have to say I loved the spice section. Not may cook books I have come across have included sections for mixing your own spices. I especially love the spice mix that houses bakes mandarin oranges! Lastly, I really really wish there were more photos in this book. It might just be a personal preference, but I feel much more inclined to make something when I can see how yummy it looks, so it’s a bit of a bummer this book didn’t include many.

Simplify mealtimes and enjoy delicious, nourishing food with this whole-food plant-based cookbook! Okay, I am confused ... no refined sugar but honey and maple syrup are okay? Does the author not know that the body cannot differentiate between the different sweeteners when it comes to blood glucose levels? (there is not a difference per the diabetes educators I know...) Or that your body needs some fats to synthesize and keep you alive? I can see going added salt-free as most people eat too much salt, but this is all whole food-based and without canned/pre-prepared foods, there is often no salt in anything and no amount of spice is going to take the place of a shaker of salt. But, if this is your thing, then you will love the book and you can add in animal proteins to make everyone in your family happy. The recipes are well written and understandable by cooks of all levels and the photos make the food very appealing to myself and other lovers of food out there. (At least using "whole foods: there is no "chick'n" and its 88 ingredients vs. 🐔chicken🐔 having one, but a cheese that does not come from an animal is UDDER NONSENSE!) As always, I try to find a reason to not rate with stars as I simply adore emojis (outside of their incessant use by "🙏-ed Social Influencer Millennials/#BachelorNation survivors/Tik-Tok and YouTube Millionaires/snowflakes etc. " on Instagram and Twitter... Get a real job, people!) so let's give it 🍲🍲🍲 This book is also cross reviewed at http://www.facebook.com/janetsbookcorner and https://janetcousineau.wixsite.com/we... ***MANY BOOKS FROM CALLISTO / ROCKRIDGE PRESS ARE FREE FOR KINDLE UNLIMITED UPON RELEASE - CHECK IT OUT AND READ IT****

There is a very informative section explaining a whole food, plant-based lifestyle, along with tips, cooking techniques, healthy substitutions, and certain foods that should be consumed, limited, or avoided. Some recipes call for a sauce or spice blend, which is included in the book as a different recipe, but most of those are things that can be made ahead of time, stored, and used for multiple recipes. I received a review copy of this cookbook from the publisher, and I am so pleased with it. I highly recommend this cookbook.

Easy to read and easy ingredients you would have on hand Easy recipes the spices are accessible . I would consider trying several recipes. However I think you would need a heavy duty blender like a Vitamix

There are much better WFPB cookbooks out there. Probably great for beginners, simple & short.
