Secrets of the Sword II

Availability: Ready to download

For ten years, I’ve been using a magical sword that I won in battle to ruthlessly slay enemies, break evil artifacts, and open stubborn pickle jars, but I don’t know much about it. That’s about to change. Thanks to the fact that I’m dating a powerful dragon, I can get a ride to the dwarven home world, and we’re going to research the sword's roots. Not that I care much about For ten years, I’ve been using a magical sword that I won in battle to ruthlessly slay enemies, break evil artifacts, and open stubborn pickle jars, but I don’t know much about it. That’s about to change. Thanks to the fact that I’m dating a powerful dragon, I can get a ride to the dwarven home world, and we’re going to research the sword's roots. Not that I care much about its history, mind you, but several allies and enemies have suggested it can do a lot more than whack things. Considering the magical bad guys I fight are always stronger, faster, and more powerful than I am, I need every advantage I can get. There’s just one problem: a half-dwarf thief has shown up and says she’s the rightful heir to the sword. I want to believe it’s a scam and can’t possibly be true, but I didn’t get the sword in the most legitimate manner. If I have to give it up, I might not be able to do my job anymore, and just as bad, I’ll be a target for all the bad guys who have been waiting for an opportunity to take me down.

I loved this series. The characters in her books are so lovable each with their own distinct personalities. Do they always do what we might have done. Heck no and that's what makes them fun. How many can say they have a Vampire living in their basement and a dragon boyfriend. Love the series. I loved this series. This is no exception. The characters, the dialogue, the pace of the book are great. It is entertaining, it is fun. This is one of her best series yet and I am going to regret when it finishes. But I know that she will then write another that I will get wrapped up in and enjoy.

I can't believe I'm 8 books into this series and the heroine still hasn't figure out much about her super cool, kick butt sword. *sigh* At least there was some headway in that department and hopefully she'll find out all the things in the 9th and final book. Other than that exasperating fact, the banter and whole cast of characters continued to entertain and amuse. It was a nice and easy way to end 2020. This should be read as part of a series for maximum enjoyment. Lindsay Buroker's books might work for you if you like humorous, fast paced stories with fantasy or sci fi flavoring. They are more character driven rather than plot driven and not heavy in world building. Unexpected Ghostly Romp The story I expected didn’t come until after the halfway mark of this novel. I admit, hanging out with Val, Zav, Amber, Willard and even Gondo is a guilty pleasure of mine, though, so I didn’t mind the delay. It took most of the book, but we finally learned the sword’s real (and nearly as pompous as a dragon’s) name. The adventuring included zombies, ghostly creations or would they all be considered animated skeletons? Action packed Yet another action packed book in this action packed series. Magical and human beings, magical artifacts, and magic spells all combine to make an intriguing story.

In “Secrets of the Sword 2” Zav and Val are inching closer to their wedding. Val’s boss, Willard desires to provide them with a traditional wed donut Zav wants all of the whoopla of a circus. However, before they can go a thief has broken into military storage where artifacts are kept and has made it clear that she wants to capture Val and take her sword. She believes that she is the rightful heir to the blade. Val’s mother has a new werewolf neighbor and he seems quite enchanted by her. Zav discovers his future mother-in-law’s sauna and is enchanted by this new toy. Amber has been suspended from school for fighting and Val is hoping to get to The bottom of it. Once Zav and Val enter the Dwarven realm they discover a new enemy that very well has the ability to wipe dragons off the face or the Earth if she isn’t stopped. My, my, my, what a tangled web we weave! I enjoyed this installment but also feel a little sad. The series is drawing to a close and the next book will be the last. I for one am not ready to let these characters and the crazy world in which they live end. I hope the author finds a way to do a spin off with one of the other characters like Amber or Willard. One can only hope!

Very entertaining. Once again someone is trying to steal Chopper, and this time Val’s worried. Besides a potential heir to the sword in the wings, Val is also trying to deal with Willard’s very focused ideas on what their wedding should be. We know it won’t go to plan, but whatever... Their are a few growths in the relationships in the series. Val and Freya are at ease with each other, Val and her mum actually connect, and even Amber is opening up (to a degree). He’s come a long way from the stick-up-his-butt dragon that we first encountered, and I can’t wait to see what the final book has instore for them. In all, a fun read. I always get sucked into the story and before I know it an hour or two has passed. 4 stars 🌟

Still enjoying this series so far This is book eight to the Death Before Dragons series and I've got to say that I'm still enjoying the series so far. It's considered a pretty clean PNR kind of book/series which doesn't bother me at all as there's a time for books that will require the use of a fan to cool down and then there's a time where a nice clean book works just fine. So glad to be back! I just love Val, Zav, Sindari, and the gang. I couldn't have been more excited for Lindsay to write more in the Death Before Dragons world! This book is no less awesome than the rest. As one can count on, the humor and snark was strong, and you can't help but laugh at their antics! Val is still trying to learn more about Chopper, while dealing with a crazy dragon trying to plan a human wedding with Willard being in charge! Per the usual, things don't go as planned. I liked this installment, it was another fast-paced action adventure with a dash of sarcasm, but it felt like the author was tying off a loose end to please the fans rather than being the natural progression of Val's story. I get the distinct impression that while they may not have precisely minded writing this book, they are very much ready to move on to something else and was slightly phoning it in. I hope book 9 manages to end on more of a bang than a slow, slightly worn, comfy fade-out that I liked this installment, it was another fast-paced action adventure with a dash of sarcasm, but it felt like the author was tying off a loose end to please the fans rather than being the natural progression of Val's story. Secrets of the sword 2 This is a combination of both books 1 & 2. I finished the first book and immediately started book 2. Both books were fun. By now we know the characters. We know how they interact. We know how they think. And we had a couple of new ones added. Plots were good in both. Plenty of action in both. The continuing story line of the marriage holds both together. I expect everything to be tied up nicely in Book 3. I strongly suggest you get the whole series and enjoy them. Urban Fantasy is definitely one of my guilty pleasures and the Death by Dragons series by Lindsay Buroker is my new favorite series in that genre. It reminds me a bit of the Kate Daniels series written by Ilona Andrews. It has a great mix, of romance, snark, humor, and action in it. I am glad I discovered it after several books had been published because the story could be a bit frustrating if you had to wait too long for the next book but luckily Lindsay Buroker is a fast and enjoyable writer.

Very very sad to see then next book will be the last I have enjoyed every book in this series and know I will re-read If you are looking for a light urban fantasy with a very slow burn romance this is for you It's got many different species, worlds and magics plus a snarky, 6ft blonde bad ass heroine who is NOT a special snowflake, all powerful, prophesied mc, great fleshed out side characters. Al and Zav ride again! How much trouble can a half-elven warrior with a dragon fiancé get into? Well, when she has a magical dwarven sword, apparently plenty. This time, a half-dwarven thief and a whole host of undead enemies create much of the trouble, while wedding planning creates even more. Val and Zav ride again!

The author’s world building (universe building) is awesome. She has opened up new worlds in every book in this series and this book is no different. Val’s sword Chopper is front and centre in this book as she not only wants to learn more about it’s abilities, but someone else wants it and we learn that back story also. Very enjoyable read as always!

Trend I sure hope not! I love this series and have laughed out loud, this book included a lot more sexual innuendos and some graphic language about Val’s and Zav. Please leave the details of their sex life out of these books.

Love the Series Val, Sindari and Zav have the perfect amount of snark in my opinion even while facing danger. They vanquished a very dangerous foe on the dwarves home world and Val may have the resources she needs to lean more about her sword. Can’t wait for the wedding.
