"A Godsend Bride for the Lonesome Rancher" by Chloe Carley was an interesting Christian western romance. Elise, an orphaned young woman travels west from an orphanage as a mail order bride to meet her husband John, a rancher estranged from his wealthy family in Boston. John has closed off all relationships due to past hurts and mistrust, so he doesn't know how to relate to Elise and ignores her (which I also feel was a bit naive on his part). He finds that it's easier to work outside around the ranch and leave Elise to read, clean house, whatever--all alone and on her own every day. Even when John faces a life crisis and changed heart, I still found it difficult to like him. I also wondered how Elise traveled to spy on a villain gang, waiting until the dark of night so she wouldn't been seen. Since there's no mention of any kind of light, how did she find her way around in the dark--even safely riding back home on her horse in the dark?? I do not care for a narrative style of storytelling. It seemed that too many pages were given to repetitively telling us what the characters thought and felt. Not sure why, but once again I could not open the Extended Epilogue on my Paperwhite Kindle. I received a complimentary ARC of this book and have given my honest opinion in this review.

This was a very enjoyable read. This Author is very good at getting the reader hooked into the story very early in the story. This book is no exception. I enjoyed the characters especially Elise. She for the most part seem to be well grounded. Even though she grew up in an orphanage she was well grounded in her faith and in her personality and character. She becomes a mail order bride and travels to meet up with John a rancher who she marries upon arrival. John is very different than Elise. This was a very enjoyable read. John is pretty much a loner and doesn't try to get to know or work with anyone. At least for a good portion of the story John really isn't a very likable person. People including Elise in the beginning come to wrong conclusions about him due to his closed off demeaner. I don't really start to like John until he has a change of heart. I like that the story includes scripture, prayer, faith, and hope into the telling of the story. I thought the characters were well developed and I thought the pace of the story is good.

His father was wealthy and wanted to tell John what, when and where to go with his future and was very unkind to him. when Elsie arrives she is met by loneliness as John has very few friends and lives out from town. He doesn't know how to relate to her so he leaves her by herself except when he comes in to eat or go to sleep. One thing I liked about this story is the pray that went on through out the story. Prayer changes things and lives. I enjoyed this book and feel you will to.

Its never too late This brought a lot of tears to my eyes for the mere fact that it reminds me that forgiveness is a balm to the soul and allows so much happiness after. It was beautiful how justice was served and at the same time, family (extended family too) were restored. The reunion of John with his parents, as well as Elise with the people in the orphanage, brought tears to my eyes. Great historical romance This is a great Christian historical romance. The young lady is raised in an orphanage after the death of her parents at an early age. Following much prayer she decides to become a mail order bride for a wealthy rancher in Colorado. When she first arrives she is disappointed to find her husband a man of very many secrets and a loner. I really enjoyed reading this book! An orphan went west to be a mail-order bride! The rancher picked her up at the station and they went straight to the church and got married then went to the ranch. I recommend this book to anyone who likes western mail-order bride books!

Christian historical It was enjoyable to read a story with a good Christian base. It seems to be lacking in many stories out there.
