The only reason this book is rated 2 stars and not 1 is because the writing was good enough that I finished the book. "Useless" - the entire book of more than 300 pages was useless. There was no plot, no character development and nothing new that readers did not know before. The entire book revolved around the following points: 1. Shade has a wolf - Already knew that in book 4. 2. Shade is a daughter of Origin Seed and probably can gift seeds - Book 1, 2, 3 and 4. 3. "Useless" - the entire book of more than 300 pages was useless. There was no plot, no character development and nothing new that readers did not know before. The entire book revolved around the following points: 1. Shade has a wolf - Already knew that in book 4. 2. Shade is a daughter of Origin Seed and probably can gift seeds - Book 1, 2, 3 and 4. 3. Jada is a traitor - Nice inconsistent epilogue in book 3. 4. Kyra leads black pentad - I had guessed that. But even if we assume that's new information, it is not pertinent to this series. It is just an introduction to the next one. 5. Shade needs time to become powerful, somehow (I don't really understand what the plan was to have this happen; Elites spend decades to train.) - She ends up dragging unconscious Pax to White castle after having sex multiple times with him. Pax doesn't even attempt to train her. 6. Shade needs time to heal - She heals in a day (time taken to travel from border to castle). 7. Shade becomes "Alpha female" - What? When? Pax still doesn't listen to her and actually endangers both their lives, not listening to her. The only reason they end up going back was because Pax was unconscious and couldn't refuse her. There is not a single moment in the entire book that I feel, oh, here is the future queen! The hopeless stupidity of the entire plan by super Elite Sabers that are not only meant to rule but actually plan to snatch the crown away from the current monarch, makes me want to bash my head. Let's discuss the idiocy in the "plan": 1. Pax and Shade separate so that Shade has time to train, to survive the trials. - Why didn't they think of this before announcing her a part of their pentad? Then, they thought she was a mortal. All the more reason, not to announce themselves as a pentad. And as I mentioned, they actually don't even try to train her glass powers. 2. Seth and Shade, fortunately, have a method to communicate in days of no text, email or even snail mail. And yet, they don't let Pax and Shade know that they will not be able to make it to them in the time frame. 3. The guys manage to get themselves thrown in jail and get tortured. Really? They are supposed to be centuries old, super trained and in conflict with the king. And yet, they voluntarily go visit jail? This was such a stupid, idiotic plot device, that it was not even believable. 4. The guys' freedom and entire plan hinge on one woman who spends almost all her time with the enemy. And they don't suspect she might have turned or even have a plan B?? And this is the woman that they stake the lives of the two of their pentad on, despite knowing that Jada only looks out for herself. Even if Jada was on their side, why would she risk herself doing an illegal seal for a woman she hates? 5. And finally, how much of an idiot would you have to be - to be a slave with wanted posters and still roam about in the city, apparently with clothes that tell everyone exactly who you are? (Never really understood what exactly made everyone realize she was a slave.) I am not even including the most ridiculous tale about Haryk, Lucif and (and I want to say)Lira! Seriously?!?! I couldn't believe how unbelievable the entire story was. But that was in book 4. A novel has an exposition, inciting event, rising action, climax, falling action and resolution. The only part the author manages to get right is the inciting event in which Shade and Pax separate from the others. The author does mention that this book has a cliffhanger, so I expected a cliffhanger, not an abrupt ending of the book in the middle. Regardless of all the above-mentioned points, this book could have been salvaged if the author had managed to use plot devices to her benefit. She could have expounded on Shade's feelings on being separated from others. She could have made better use of matching quills and the mirror as plot devices. She could have even written about others' feelings about Shade and the realization that she is their mate. There could be something more about their allies (real allies!). This would have been a good book for Shade's and Pax's character growth. And more importantly, this would have a great time to introduce Shade's training. Not being trained and just using her powers melodramatically exactly when she needs them, is another stupid point I should have mentioned earlier! The only thing happening in this book is the sex between Pax and Shade. And this happens to be my major complaint with this book. The author manages to write an entire book on a monogamous relationship in a Reverse Harem series of 6 books!

Meh—too many issues and I almost didn’t finish it (which is very odd for me)...the only reason I pushed through was that the prior books were so LONG and I feel I’ve invested too much time on these books already. 1) The overall plot to take over/kill Lithael is paper thin and vague. Even 4 agonizingly long books in, I’m still not clear on what the Elorsins or their rebels plan to actually do to prevent Lithael from using his DeathSeed powers (and the trapped souls). 2) Remind me why Pax and Shad Meh—too many issues and I almost didn’t finish it (which is very odd for me)...the only reason I pushed through was that the prior books were so LONG and I feel I’ve invested too much time on these books already. 1) The overall plot to take over/kill Lithael is paper thin and vague. Even 4 agonizingly long books in, I’m still not clear on what the Elorsins or their rebels plan to actually do to prevent Lithael from using his DeathSeed powers (and the trapped souls). 2) Remind me why Pax and Shade had to go off alone? Why Shade couldn’t hide in the guys’ private quarters in the stable at the White Castle? And why, more importantly, couldn’t they pretend that Shade had been killed in an ambush (she was understood by everyone to still be mortal, aka easy to kill, so it stands to reason for the guys to pretend she was dead). Again, seemed unnecessary to put Pax through the whole “return seal” agony in an attempt to get Shade and Pax alone for sex. 3) Why aren’t they training Shade, again? At the very least, they know she’s a Saber, so they can help speed up her healing. Seems like a too-stupid-to-live moment for everyone to let Shade continue to bumble about. 4) Shade continues to do her very best impression of a rug—a pretty stupid one, at that. I mean, yes, she pushes back at Pax here and there, but her supposed determination doesn’t come through at all when it comes to self preservation. If I were her, I think I’d be pretty insistent I learn what my power is and begin to steadily manipulate it, as well as train. But instead, she seems content to just *shrug* and allow it to blast out of her at only the most life-threatening of moments (including her realizing she has a wolf). Book 4 has her still wallowing in her servant mentality (yes, I realize it’s only been weeks since the first book, but I’d hoped to see some character growth once the powers came to play). I dont expect her to suddenly be over a lifetime of whipping and subservience, but her “sit back and let the plot happen to her” inactivity is grating. 5) Pax, and all the guys except Seth, totally and 100% suck. They are all controlling and manipulative, with moments of tenderness slipped in between to keep Shade compliant. I don’t care that Roarke is sex on a stick or Killian is gruff and dangerous, they shove her about, actively keep her out of planning conversations, withhold important information from her, and generally underestimate her at every turn. They still treat her like a mortal, but WORSE because in this book they all love her (and to them, love = putting her in a glass cage).

Power and Pentad Part 1 moves the series from sort of YA to adult with the barrier to Shade being with her men gone. Split between time with Shade and Pax and the other 3 at the castle, there are a ton of revelations. I adore this series because it is so immersive. I don't often re-read but this one always has things I didn't pick up on before. The addition of steam to the banter with her men doesn't take anything away from the overall story. I enjoyed this addition to the Shadows and Shade series. In terms of relationship-building, the focus is on Shade, Pax, and Thane since they're on the mortal side together waiting for the other Elorsins. Their relationship needed more understanding, knowledge, sexy times ;), and communication, which happens. Shade does end up using more of her powers, but just like with the guys, she's the last of her kind so it's not like someone's here to teach her how to do anything or what it means. The other Elorsins end up dealing with a lot at the White Castle and it's not good. I'm hoping that once the pentad is all together again that everyone sits down and lays all the cards on the table, especially in front of Shade. She has bits and pieces still when she needs the full picture. We do get a bit more insight into Seth's past in this book and it's heartbreaking. Roarke, Killian, and Seth also all need to stop whichever version of fighting the idea of bonding/loving Shade each is doing, lean into it, and hop on. There are also some point of view chapters from Jada that I don't want to spoil but were enlightening and exciting and not because of her. I'm excited for Part Two where I *hope* we get the pentad together fairly quickly, that we see more bonding, I want Shade to meet Kyra (I need it actually), that Rose gets some friend Shade-time, and that there's more of a balance of something going right/accomplishment in the second part, which I will definitely be reading. This is a great series, even when the characters don't do what I want/yell at them to do.

DON’T STOP NOW!! ” come the end. And all of that may or may not be in the correct order it happened. All I really know is that a LOT went down in the few days that we get through in this book and our favorite girl and guys are in some major trouble. Power & Pentad does end on a bit of a cliffhanger, so if that’s not your jam, you may want to hold off on reading until part 2 is ready to go (and we’ve been told that the date set on Amazon will definitely be moved forward so don’t fear having to wait that long). Just as with every other book in the ShadowVerse, Power & Pentad is full of the magic only Amanda is capable of creating, but it’s different in that we’ve finally progressed to some steamy scenes!! Whoop, whoop!!! I cannot wait for part 2, I NEED MORE SHADE NOW! Please?

The best book in the series so far, by far. I loved it, devoured it, and had a hard time putting it down in order to go to my day job. The character development, especially the relationship between Shade and Pax, is excellent. It was satisfying to see her take control when she needed to, especially of her own body. Nothing was more satisfying that Pax finally seeing Shade as an equal. While I would prefer the Pentad to be together, the split POV's worked for the story. And the goings-on at the White Castle were interesting enough to keep me engaged, even when the spotlight wasn't on Shade. I loved the intrigue with Rose, Teegan, and the other Triunes, as well as Jada. I eagerly await seeing how that shakes out. Finally, the unexpected communication device was my favorite part of the entire book. It opened up a new side of several characters. The exchanges were sweet, funny, but also necessary. I look forward to more in book 6.

Still one of my favorite series to date and in this installation we finally get some sexy scenes and the best part is definitely all of the guys trying to figure out how the mortal fertility cycle works heheheee. I loved the page count, characters and writing. But it lost whole 2 stars because there is no development. Nothing happens in this generous page count. Yes, it was easy to read, yes, I devoured it. But, cmon. Nothing? Really? Now I have to wait for next book and hope it will have more happening in it. And then wonder why it was split up in two books and why so mutch in this one couldn't have been edited out. Don't get me wrong, I love how long the book is and I am still in love with the series. I had missed this world and the characters immensely. The way their specific gifts play against one another and the way they have learned to balance and care for one another is amazing. There are some dark aspects and this one hurts, deeply. Still well worth it for me, but Amanda does an excellent job giving explicit trigger warnings so read them and keep yourself safe. The world building is wonderful! Can’t wait to see what happens next!

So good I'm disappointed that I read this so fast and now left waiting for the next book. In this book we see more of the storylines coming together and moving forward. We see a lot more perspectives and motives from other characters in this book versus the other books. The downfall of this though is I felt like Shade was put on a backburner. We get glimpses of her new self but they were very brief. Overall this was a fantastic addition and I can't wait for the next one. Can't wait to read part 2 next I was so optimistic for Shade and the guys, hoping things would work out for them with the Saber part of her soul returned, but oh man... things are definitely getting worse for them all before they (hopefully) get better in part 2. I was on the edge of my seat and very engaged in the story, looking for how various threads in the plot tie together and how future events will turn out. The book ends on a bit of a cliff hanger, but it's not horrible and it's a good set Can't wait to read part 2 next I was so optimistic for Shade and the guys, hoping things would work out for them with the Saber part of her soul returned, but oh man... things are definitely getting worse for them all before they (hopefully) get better in part 2. I really only like this series for Shades and Kilian's relationship to be perfectly honest. Since this book was mostly about "Pane" and Shade it was not as interesting. It almost felt like a very long bridge for part two that I need to wait a year for to come out. Regardless, it is a pretty good series that reminds me a lot of Jane Washington's series. The only issue with that is the first book is almost copying her story line (except Jane does it better the first time). Oh wow! I'm not even sure where to start. This book shows so much growth of our Shade. She is truly becoming a bad ass by stumbling through her powers as they show themselves naturally. She learns so much about herself and her love for the boys. It's her time to shine and I cannot wait to see how it will unfold next. Seth still holds the spot as my favorite but I really do love Pane. I am hoping for a spin off I need more of the Black Pentade. Oh wow! I'm not even sure where to start. Fantastic continuation I'm so obsessed with this series. The action and drama continually kick up pace, and the characters are so real. It's also great to see Shade coming into her powers and becoming a badass! I can't wait for the next installment. Fantastic continuation I'm so obsessed with this series. This book transitions the series from young adult to adult romance. Things finally get heated for Shade. I love the different pov, even some from the bad guys giving you all the view points in the book. This ends on a cliffhanger leaving you ready for part two.
