There was nothing wrong or bad with this book. It was greatly written and very emotional. However, two brothers having feelings for the same girl and the girl for both brothers did not attract me that much. Dnf @ 31%.

4.5 Stars It's been awhile since I've read one of Ms Mankin's books and I realized early on what I've been missing. She can write such amazing stories about surfing, music, and love. But don't forget, she always adds in just the right amount angst. This book was no different and I loved the premise of the storyline along with the development of these characters. Lotus and Storm were amazing, the Love scenes were off the chart and the angst was just right. Romance writer, Michelle Mankin, took me back to one of her favorite places to find love...the beautiful and vibrant community of Ocean Beach, California, where surfing and music rule.  It was the setting for another of her band centered series- Rockstars, Surf and Second Chances, and now Storm, a connected standalone that I couldn't wait to crack open.  I loved every minute of this 66 chapter book which ended with a perfect, heart melting epilogue. In this book, we met an intense young Storm and an even younger, but already lovely Lotus.  As their new relationship begins- she gains a fierce protector, he finds absolute acceptance and both end up with a love and friendship that spans years, becoming more precious to them than anything else in their young lives. True to his name, Storm, angry and turbulent, reluctantly leaves behind the only person who matters as he blows out of OB years later as a teen.  For his own sanity, he has to escape his father's constant wrath and search for a future in the music that soothes his troubled soul. Years later, beautiful, kind Lotus struggles through life, working several jobs while doing her best to be there for her younger brother. The rythym of music and the ocean, surfing and her love for growing things are her happiness- daily reminders that the person she enjoyed sharing these things with most, Storm, has been missing from her life for so long now.  Her tender heart broke the day he left, she's never forgotten him, maybe never will...but it's time to move on. This friends to lovers romance takes the long way around, leading you on quite an exciting Journey. How delicious it was getting to the sweet goodness that was at the heart of this story, with twists, turns, secrets, lies and omissions that kept me turning pages well past my bedtime.  Surprises, celebrity sightings, a new bands music floating through the air and waves crashing in the background as something new begins between Lotus and a gorgeous, mysterious man that somehow reminds her of Storm. Lovers of Michelle Mankin's words will be reading this book in one sitting because if that hot looking cover hasn't already captured your attention, the story behind it certainly will!  Be warned, you're going to want more- this is just the beginning of what I hope will be an additive new series with more books to come!  After reading Storm, I'm just dying to see which of these new exciting characters will be next to get their own story! This may just be my favorite book of hers so far.

With Storm, Michelle Mankin returns to her favorite southern Californian beach town, Oceanside. If you are a new to MM reader, there is a big rock-n-roll world to explore in her Oceanside series. If you are a new to MM reader, there is a big rock-n-roll world to explore in her Oceanside series. Not new to MM, there's some familiar faces here, but this one centers around childhood friends Lotus and Storm, and their long path back to each other. When we meet Storm and Lotus, there are best friends in their early teens damaged by parental rejection. When Storm finds a way out of the ongoing abuse from his father, he must abandon Lotus too. This feeds Lotus's fear of abandonment, one that will follow her into adulthood. Years pass before they find each other again, but when they meet again, he is basically hiding in plain site, as he's transformed into Journey, a gig musician. As adults they have an amazing connection, one she can't quite understand. Not without a little drama, there's a bit of a love triangle between Lotus, Sabre (lead of OB Hardy), and Journey/Storm, but the biggest challenge is Journey's secret, one that Lotus is afraid to hear. But Storm is so incredibly sweet and earnestly in awe and in love with her. She just has a very hard time trusting. This is a sexy addition to Michelle's vast library. She's built a quite the world and now introduces us to a new lot of up and comers with the brothers band OB Hardy. For Storm, this marks the return home, to building a relationship with his family, and stability. 4 Stars and recommendation. *I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

Storm was in middle school now, kissing and dating girls, entering a world that she was too young for. A lot of the time, she felt naive and foolish around him and could feel a separation between them. Her best friend two years older was growing up faster than her and she felt he would be leaving her and their innocent friendship behind. Each day she lost a bit more of him. Storm lives with a father that consistently rejects and bullies him. After yet another violent confrontation with his father making wild and ugly allegations about a friendship between a thirteen-year-old girl and a fifteen-year-old boy, shattering their innocence, a week shy of sixteen, he decides he’s had enough .... “we’re done being friends, Lilly . . . Lotus. This right now has to be the end of our friendship. I’m not good for you. I have a temper like him, and I’ve known for a while that people are saying shit like he did. Only I was too selfish to let you go. I needed you and your friendship too much, you see. We need to say good-bye now. You have a dad who supports you, and a little brother who adores you. One day, you’ll have a great family of your own. I don’t fit into any of that. But I promise you that I’ll never forget you. You’ve been a great friend, the best one I’ve ever had. I hope you won’t forget me”. Lotus fears abandonment. Her mother left them, Storm vanished, her father died and her brother lost himself after his accident. She’s become insecure. Nine years later he resurfaces under a new identity and unrecognisable after plastic surgery, as Journey, a well-known musician. Not a fan of the story development embroiled in secrecy, most especially a familial triangle wrapped in deception. Lotus is dating Saber (Storm’s older brother), being with him connects her to the past. Breaking up with Saber, she decides to act on her feelings for one night...into Journey’s bed. At first, he is evasive and uninterested in anything more than here and now, yet later internalises that he was tempted to reveal his identity to her. He left, he’s been with many, She decides to give Saber a second chance, startling afresh, whereas he wants to resume. “You’re asking me to start all over when I’ve already been there with you. When I know how good it is when we’re together. When there’s another guy hanging around who’s been where I’ve been too.” I flinched, taking the verbal pummeling he meant to give me. “So, is it worth it or not, the effort to get us back?” Am I worth it? was what I actually meant. But I was too uncertain where I stood with him to voice the more telling question. “You want the truth? The truth is I’m not sure if it’s worth it.” I tried not to flinch, but his admission had felt like a sucker punch. “I was certain of us at the beginning. But now? I have a lot on my plate.” Hurt and disappointment, after weathering nothing but hurtful blows from him, stuffing the hurt deep inside. He’s authoritative, self-involved, and arrogant. She thought confessing to Saber that it was Journey that she hooked up with in LA, would distance Journey as she had little or no willpower around him and thought being honest with Saber would help draw them closer together. After too many attempts at overplaying his manipulation, Lotus breaks up with Saber, again, sleeps with Journey and Sophia sleeps with Saber. They got drunk. He was wasted. They hooked up. Storm was uncertain of his reception and wanted to be able to leave with no one the wiser had it not worked out. Cork and Storm being best friends, he still remained unsure of his reception, and she was with Saber at the time. Him reconciling with his mother and brothers. His recognises his life was devoid of warmth and he was alone a long time. But he never realised how lonely he really was, until returning home. Lotus and Storm lacked chemistry, her responses...conditioned and unemotional. There are vague references to his getting plastic surgery however it is never explained. Some events challenge the reader as realistic.

I’m feeling this. I’m liking Storm and Lotus” so my interest in their journey kept growing and then the first twist hit and I went “Hmmmmm”. But then the next couple of bombs that were dropped had my head spinning and I’ll admit that I waffled between wariness and intense curiosity as to how everything would end up playing out...especially with all that happened in that 12th chapter. Well, curiosity won out (no surprise there) ~ though the whole 66 chapters + epilogue thing did have me going ‘Whoa” and in the end I have to say that this baby was all kinds of goodness. It was a fun, sweet and smexy read with a whole lot of heart and just the right amount of drama/angst to keep things interesting right up to the very end. I ended up adoring Storm and Lotus, they both had me growling in frustration at times, but I still adored them. For all that Storm is closed off, he’s quite genuine. He goes where his heart and emotions take him, even if he shouldn’t, and isn’t afraid to speak his mind when necessary. Lotus is a sweetheart. Her heart is bruised, but not broken. She’s gone through a lot in her young life, but still has this openness about that at times makes her a little too trusting, but she owns it and comes out stronger for it. Their journey to their HEA is definitely an interesting one ~ those twists, man. But the one thing that jumped off the page from the start was just how well they fit together. They had a flow that worked, even when things got rocky, and I was happy with how everything worked out for them in the end. I will admit that I was a bit afraid that this would turn out to be an OTT angst-fest, especially with how things were left after chapter 12, but it wasn’t. There was angst, but it was necessary for the growth of the characters and it was handled well and the sweet and smexy definitely balanced everything out. I loved catching up with the Dogs, but it was the newbies that had me all kinds of happy. I ADORED Sophia and Cork ~ these two were all kinds of everything ~ but I can’t say that Saber and Shield didn’t fascinate me, so I’m crossing my toes that we’ll get to hangout with the this new crew in the future! ~ Copy provided by the author & voluntarily reviewed ~

It was a love story between two kids who are now adults and the love of a brother and his sister. Lotus had lost her best friend at a young age when he couldn’t handle the abuse he was getting from his home life and just figured he would never be the goodness that Lotus deserved. During this time Lotus who had already lost her mom when she abandon their family at a young age, saw her extremely talented brother traumatically injured which changed the course of life for both Lotus and Cork. Her mentor and father has now gone as well so it’s just Lotus who takes on the responsibility for caring for her brother who has some lasting cognitive issues from his surfing accident I don’t know where to start with Storm and Lotus and I’m afraid I wouldn’t do justice to their amazing love story so you have to pick this book up and sit back for an incredible story that will break your heart, make your heart soar and pull it all together in the end to give you an amazing love story you won’t soon forget. I highly recommend this book from this very talented author.

Pretty amazing story and as I was tired of her other series ,(Rock, F*!ck Club) this was quite refreshing. You totally understand their backstory. Author had quite a job keeping Lotus from cheating cause she was hot for one guy. I suppose it would of been a bit better to know Saber (more fleshed out initially but we understand him better towards the middle. How these people didn't know, I'll never know. LoL Mother's know. The main characters meet as children and form a bond that is beyond friendship, it is the kind that stays with you for life. But we all know life is not a smooth straight line. There is an emotional moment that brings childhood as they know it to an end for both Storm & Lotus. As adults their lives are interwoven in a way that will take your breath away. I love that as usual Michelle has given us a wonderful friendship between Lotus and her BFF as well as other female friends that all support each other. Another wonderful theme is how the love and support of your blood family can be amazing but not always. In some cases family can be toxic and while members can become divided it is never too late to find each other again. As is usual with her stories we see characters from other books and series wonder in and out. We see the Dirt Dogs play an important role in the story while not overtaking it. I found they really helped show how your family does not just have to be blood. But this is not a Dirt Dogs story, this is the beginning of a new band and I hope a new series. I can not say enough about the love scenes. I am calling them love scenes because as hot and steamy as they are, when they are physically together, you know it is beyond love, they are part of each other’s soul. I could feel the emotion and sizzle down to my toes while reading. You can’t review this book without discussing how important the beach and the ocean are. The way Michelle writes, you really feel the healing power of the ocean and the connection all the characters have to it. The descriptions of surfing are amazing. The epilogue that will melt your heart. What makes it a MUST READ for me is that it takes love, rock n’ roll, true friendship, family, hot sex and puts all that into a story with well rounded characters. My best advice, ORDER as soon as available and set aside time to binge read 66 chapters & an epilogue, it is that kind of book!!!

It was okay. I enjoyed the plot to an extent, I just don’t think it hit the mark when the truth came out (don’t worry no spoilers) but I feel, if I found out what Lotus did, damn I’d be angry even if I got over it in the mean time my initial reaction would be mad so I don’t think it was very true to life in that aspect.

They both experienced traumatic things in their young lives and were anchors for each other. Eventually, though, Storm had to leave. His leaving was realistically portrayed and I appreciated even more how MMankin brought Lotus and Storm back together. *Family & Friends MMankin always makes family and friends a focal element in her stories. I've always loved this element because I believe in their importance too. They way Lotus was with her dad and taking guardianship of her brother, Cork, was indicative of that importance and of her spirit. The way she and Storm were in the past and present spoke to the deeply rooted feelings between them. And the friends they have surrounding and supporting them exemplify how they each feel about who they spend their time with. Even the healing in Storm's family showed that when those you care about most put forth the effort you can get past, well, the past. I also adored the cameos from the Dirt Dogs, especially Ash. He played an instrumental role in setting Lotus, Storm, and those closest to them on the path to happiness. *Romance The chemistry between Lotus and Storm was sizzling! I mean, these two lit up for each other with just a look. But they were also kind and considerate - taking care of each other's needs, emotionally as well as physically. What they had was very special and they seemed to each know it'd be worth the effort. *Music MMankin's love of music and concert-going is evident in all her stories and Storm was no different. She has a talent with lyrics (poetry!) and she deftly conveys the emotions of both being on-stage as well as a member of the audience. *Locale Her descriptions of the sounds, smells, and sights of Ocean Beach make it clear MMankin has a certain affinity for the beach. She uses her prose to take you right there and she made me miss the beach. I've always been a fan of MMankin but become an even greater one with each book as her writing continues to develop. Storm touched me, resonated with me. Lotus and Storm's story was so deeply emotional and I was rooting for them the entire way. I'm also completely invested in this new cast of characters and will eagerly awaiting the next book!

This is a complete standalone and does not require you to have read any other of Michelle's books, but I do recommend reading the Rock Stars, Surfs, and Second Chances Series if you have the time. We see many of the characters make cameo appearances in this book and it was amazing knowing their back stories. For example, I loved this conversation between Storm and Ash (one of the Dirt Dogs band members from the Rock Stars, Surfs, and Second Chances Series). "I followed Ash... Entering his office... He gestured to the new orange egg chairs in front of it. I raised my brows. “When did you get these?”“Fanny chose them.” He sighed. “She likes to swivel when she’s here when I’m working, and I love her. So—”“You make allowances.” I nodded knowingly." -Storm by Michelle Mankin

I love the friends to lovers trope, and after reading the beginnings of Lotus and Storm's story in the My Night with a Rockstar anthology I couldn't wait to get my hands on their whole story. Storm definitely did not disappoint! Lotus was heartbroken when Storm left as a teen, both for the loss of her best friend and crush and for the circumstances surrounding his departure. She has never forgotten him and still holds out hope that he may come back into her life 9 years later. Her life is very different and more complicated now thanks to those tragedies alluded to in the blurb, and on the night of her birthday she adds one more heartbreak: finally breaking off her relationship with her rocker boyfriend Saber. Her bestie Sophia is determined to see Lotus cut loose for one night but she is shocked when Lotus actually does just that. With the body of a Greek god and colorful ink on display, Journey unexpectedly takes her breath away and unnerves her. There is gentleness beneath his tough demeanor and warnings that he likes his solo life that draws her in from the first moment they meet. One hot night has them both thinking about more but an untimely phone call derails it. And let the roller coaster ride begin! Complications abound between Saber's persistence at trying to keep Lotus in his life, Journey's mixed signals, Lotus's unending responsibilities and devotion to her younger brother, and the secret that Journey is keeping despite his intentions and attempts to come clean to her. But in between the bumps and smoldering intensity, there's never a doubt they belong together. I was compelled to continue flipping through the pages with my heart beating double time until I could finally breathe freely... about 75% of the way through the book. I loved that we are given some drama free time to enjoy the relationship and the epilogue was just right. A fan was definitely required several times along the way too! As a fan of the Rock Stars, Surf and Second Chances series, I loved how involved Ash, Diesel and so many other familiar faces were in this book! You don't need to read that series to enjoy Storm but I certainly recommend the series if you end up falling for this book. ARC received from author

The author writing is flawless, and the words are so captivating, the plot had so many twists and turns and none that I was expecting, and many shockingly intimate I have become a huge fan of this author. The author writes with so much intensity and emotion pulled from each book it’s felt page after page. Some are quick witted story lines are so perfect and lets you believe you have a front row seat. So being able to read this love story didn’t disappoint. The authors ability to have two separate individuals struggling in their everyday life and try to navigate someone else’s thoughts, needs and desires was intense and gives all the fills. Authors Blurb: He wants her, but he can’t have her. She wants him even though she doesn’t know who he really is. Storm Hardy left Ocean Beach to pursue a career in the music industry. Lotus Irving stayed behind, her world rocked by one terrible tragedy after another. What if all your best memories are behind you? What if you lost the one friend who understood you better than anyone else? What if your greatest wish is to recreate the past instead of imagining a brighter future? This book has everything I love in a book. Then you add that it's beautifully written and believable. It is easily a five star read. Written in dual POV my personal favorite this story flows so incredibly well that the next thing you know your 80% into the book and loving every second of it. The believable way the characters interact is perfect. Run, Hop, Jump or use your (1 click) finger to do whatever you have to do and get this amazing book. It'll break your heart, you'll want to scream with frustration and it'll let you discover that love just might conquer all. The chemistry is steamy and sweet and oh so romantic.

I am beyond speechless,it is hard to be able to review a book when it is just so AMAZING that you are lost for words. Nine years pass and Storm is unrecognisable and reinvented himself and this is when everything gets very tricky, especially when he meets Lotus again going by a different name Journey....she feels a connection to him but has no idea who he actually is....OMG Squeee it is so good.. Just like the title this book is a storm of emotions that tore right through me and ripped me in half, thankfully I was stitched back together again but will never be the same. Michelle Mankin's storytelling and eye for details had me entranced I could picture the scenes perfectly and was lost within each page. There were times when I was so frustrated with Storm and Lotus I wanted to punch pillows They had me tied up in so many knots,I didn't think I was going to make it through and untangle myself.I couldn't stop thinking about them even when I wasn't reading. I fell hopelessly for Storm OMG he was EVERYTHING a tattooed musical god ,sexy as hell and some of the things he said had me either swooning or feeling hot n bothered. Lotus was such a lovely woman the kind you want to be friends with she had a huge heart that she wore on her sleeve. But she did make me want to tear my hair out at times though. Storm is 66 Epic chapters of pure angsty Romantic Perfection. I LOVED it so so much and it will not be a book I will easily forget. It is one of the best books I have read this year, absolutely OUTSTANDING !!!!!! This STORM certainly blew me away. I HIGHLY,HIGHLY recommend it and it is worth so much more than 5 stars.

The sparks fly between Journey and Lotus and choices have to be made, but Journeys keeping a big secret that may derail their blossoming relationship. Watching them evolve and supporting each other was beautiful resulting in explosive fireworks. It was good too see some of the characters from the previous series, Surf and Second Chances. I really loved Lotus, she was always honest with herself, spoke her mind and the love for her brother was heartwarming. Overall I really enjoyed this story and would recommend this book.

Storm Hardy and Lotus Irving were best friends starting from the day he rescued her from a bully on the playground when she was 7 and he was 9. They were inseparable until 6 years later when Storm left because he'd had enough of his dad's BS and bullying. He told Lotus to forget about him because he thought her life would be much better without him. Fast forward nine years......Lotus's life is not better. She lost her father and is raising her 17 year old brother with a brain injury herself. She lost her father and is raising her 17 year old brother with a brain injury herself. She has to work multiple jobs just to make ends meet. When one of those jobs takes her to LA to help out Ash the owner of Outside record label, she catches the attention of a guitarist in one of the bands. Since she is on a break with her boyfriend, she decides to go for it.....something about Journey just draws her in. When Journey ends up signing on with one of Ash's local bands, the same one that Lotus' on and off boyfriend is in, things start to get really fun! For two people who thought that any thing good in their lives was only things from the past, both Journey and Lotus start to realize that they may have found their happiness after all.....at least until things from the past come crashing back in. But, as in all romances, the two best friends find their way back to each other and get their perfect happy ending. I just love a good friends to lovers story. I really loved Storm "Journey". He was such a strong, determined guy. I really enjoy Lotus too. She may have a few abandonment issues but she did finally get her happy ending. It was also fun catching up with favorites from the Ocean Beach group. Overall this was a great, fun addition to this series.

Storm, well, what can I say about this wonderful book. I originally read a portion of it as a short story in an anthology and I was desperate for more. It was heartbreaking and raw, and I felt the angst of unresolved feelings like the characters in the book because I wanted, no, needed to know how their story played out. I don’t want to go into a retelling of this book because I don’t do spoilers and if you want to know a bit more, you would have read the synopsis already. I don’t want to go into a retelling of this book because I don’t do spoilers and if you want to know a bit more, you would have read the synopsis already. So instead I choose to examine my connection to this work. I’m a very empathetic person and there were many things in this book that took me back to my own childhood. I felt the sting of a bully’s taunts and the wide-eyed idol worship for the savior that stepped in as a protector forming an instant bond. Friendships that don’t make sense to the outside world yet are as precious as gold but as strong as steel no matter the time or distance. Finding someone who really sees you, good and bad, knows all your secrets, and still loves you is rare. Losing that connection and having it ripped away by circumstance is devastating. Feeling unworthy of the one that holds your heart can make you keep your distance thinking it is for the best until fate intervenes and has you questioning everything you thought you knew. Storm and Lotus are wonderful characters and you can’t help rooting for them to find their way back to each other regardless of any obstacles real or perceived. This book was enjoyable and a quick read because I could not put it down.

Leaving home means also leaving Lotus behind. Storm feels like he is no good to anyone least of all Lotus and decides it is best for her to forget him and have a wonderful happy life without him. Little does he know that Lotus's life has been one heartbreak after another but despite this she has picked herself up and moved on for the sake of her little brother. She still finds time to enjoy her favourite things, gardening, surfing and listening to music, and it is this love of music that brings her full circle back to the boy she has always loved though he looks different and goes by a new name. I was so enthralled watching these two open up and begin to bloom together, even though many things were being kept secret it was so obvious that their special connection was back and they belonged together but learning to trust and believe in each other was a hard limit for both of them. As always Michelle brings us an amazing rock star romance with a fabulous cast of characters and supporters who are routing for these two in the background. I truly love everything that Michelle writes and this is no exception to that rule. I hope that this is the start of a new series as there are lots of characters that I would like to know more.

I thought it was ironic that Lotus was with Storm’s older brother when they grew up, and more so with both of Storm’s brothers being in a band. Especially since Storm has always been into music and now plays for other bands, but goes by the name as Journey. Lotus may be beautiful, but she is a strong woman that has known a lot of loss. She is such a giving person and is guardian for her younger brother Cade. The two of them have such a special relationship that touched my heart. This whole book touched my heart in so many ways. Ms. Mankin has a way with words that paints the picture so well that you are there in the story. There are twists and turns in that book that I didn’t see coming at times. It was refreshing seeing the friendship that Lotus made with so many people. I think everyone felt her brightness and love that they wanted to be near her. Journey/Storm had wandered so much, but what he needed was what he left years ago. I was glad to see him come back to Ocean Beach where he could finally find himself. I strongly encourage you to read this book. I was given a copy of the book and voluntarily wrote a review.

I received advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. I was forewarned this was an emotional book so I prepared myself. I didn’t think it was any more emotional than the others in the series. Some of the previous characters were in this book as well so it was nice to see they made an appearance. There were some sad parts but some very happy parts as well. You can’t have one with out the other. We aren’t in a Trollz movie. There was some growth. Maybe that’s a mom thing? I would like to think I would know too. I expected some more blow up between Journey, Saber and Shield. It seems the tensions were right below the surface waiting to boil over. I think by far my favorite character was Cork. He was very perceptive, intelligent and cognizant. When first hearing/reading about Cork I expect more of a disability. But we’ve all left the stove on longer than needed and I know I’ve crossed the street when I shouldn’t have because I was too engrossed in what I was doing. I kept waiting for someone to mess up and call someone the endearment that was from their previous life or say something only they would know. I expected more drama once people starting finding out. But then again this isn’t All My Children. Out of the books in this series this one was my favorite.
