When she opens the box, she sees that it holds a unique Christmas ornament which is a Christmas bell, so on a whim she hangs it on the tree. Once Candace puts the ornament on the tree the house becomes haunted with evil activity and when her grandmother sees the bell, she just starts muttering crazy talk. Candace along with her mother and grandmother now have to endure an evil entity that stalks them in their home! What is the entity? Why is it attached to a Christmas ornament? Does the family survive the entity? No spoilers here as you will just have to read the book! Thoughts: This was a new author to me and the story just has quite a bit of spooky atmosphere weaved through the whole story that some parts where downright chilling! The last half of the book picked up speed with more things happening and I was literally riveted into place as I did not want to move out of my chair as I wanted to see what would happen next! Giving this book four spooky "chiller" stars!

A good read for Christmas! I enjoyed this short Christmas horror story. It really makes you think about bad seed vs. Environment. Who really is the monster here? If you take time to read between the lines, there is so much darkness here. No spoilers but would the story have turned out different if Rachel's home life was the opposite? I would definitely read more by this author. A good read for Christmas! I enjoyed this short Christmas horror story. It really makes you think about bad seed vs. Environment. I found this book to be enthralling. I was pulled into this dark little story. How something as simple as a little Christmas bell could put into motion so much terror and horror for one family is astounding. I think I would enjoy more by this author.

This was a quick read, more novella length than novel. Candace has not been home to see her mother in quite some time, and will come to regret this visit. Grandma has recently had to move in with her daughter (Candace's mom Marian) since she can no longer care for herself and keep up with her own home. Many of her belongings are banished to Marian's attic since there just isn't room. When Candace discovers the strange looking Christmas bell in one of her boxes she thinks it would be a nice thing to do for Grandma to put it on the tree. Turns out it wasn't nice, for anyone! Grandma has some very disturbing secrets and the bell is the catalyst that uncovers them, putting the whole family and Candace's friends in danger. I found the mother /daughter dynamic to be fascinating. Generations of women, going all the way back to Anne's mother did some pretty disturbing things that they convinced themselves was for the good of the family.

Anne, her mom, and her Grandma are all in one house for Christmas, but with Grandma having dementia, Anne and her mom just assume that her Grandma is saying all these horrific, disturbing, crazy, things. In all started with an ornament and everything goes downhill from there. They start figuring out that it's not Grandma's dementia, it's a fiendishly, scary entity that has way more plans in store for this family! I really, really loved this book! One too many I enjoyed the beginning of this short book. It was full of potential. A young woman returns home for Christmas and finds a forgotten ornament in the attic that dredges up family secrets. The abuse of the twin, Rachel, being constantly told she was one too many was horrific. Unfortunately, I’m not a fan of the vengeful spirit trope. The ghost was too powerful. I was given a copy of author #LADetwiler book #TheChristmasBell to be released 11/10/2020. This book should be released before Halloween in my opinion! This story involves a young woman heading home to spend the holidays with her mother and grandmother. Little does she know this holiday will be one of horror and terror! It starts with finding a Christmas Bell in her moms attic. The bell should have been left in the attic! Who if anyone will survive this nightmare. I give this 4.5 stars. L.A. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat. Definitely creepy if you have an attic full of old decorations. I loved how this book referred to the past and present happenings. The ending is amazing and hopefully a sequel will bring back these characters.

Do not read if you’re looking for a happy ending! Very enjoyable, dark Christmas story. Is it really a Christmas story? Eh, let’s say it takes place at Christmas. Perfect if you’re feeling a bit over all the manufactured joy of the holidays.

This is definitely the perfect horror for the holiday season! Though I will admit it was a bit shorter than I expected. The premise of The Christmas Bell is truly haunting. There wasn’t a slow part as we bounce between the past and the present. I will say the ending was not at all what I was expecting it to be. Though I’m not complaining, I was glad it wasn’t predictable. I’m also even more excited to pick up Detwiler’s upcoming novel, The Redwood Asylum. Which is mentioned in this story. We briefly touch on what goes on there. Now I’m curious if the events that take place in this story will be hinted at in that novel. I’m hoping to read that next month! Overall, I absolutely loved this holiday horror! It’s definitely up there with Krampus. I’m happy I also got a chance to read the additional short story - Rachel’s Story as it sheds a little more light on the events that occur in this story. If you love horror, I definitely recommend picking this one up! But make sure to also pick up Rachel’s Story! It’ll make you rethink how The Christmas Bell ends!

Christmas is supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year. A time that is spent with family sharing the love and nostalgia of the season. But there was a time when the season wasn’t all cheery and bright; there was darkness mixed into the festivities. Well, The Christmas Bell is the perfect mixture of holiday cheer and bone-chilling darkness! I’ve always had a weak spot for horror, especially the possessed artifact, or family heirloom. You soon discover dark family secrets that are more bone-chilling than the weather outside. Can Anne’s family survive her secrets? You’ll have to read to find out! I can’t wait for the follow-up short story, The Christmas Bell: Rachel’s Story that releases in a few days.

Such a great holiday horror! I’m really enjoying this authors seasonal stories and honestly everything else I’ve read by her. It was unsettling at times and had the perfect amount of gore for my taste. I would have liked it to be a touch longer, only because I was so fascinated with the characters and I would have loved to see them developed a bit more. Overall an awesome book.

I love the how the plot revolves around a creepy ghost hidden within an old ass Christmas Ornament. It wraps up (no pun intended) perfectly. . What I didn’t like : It can be cheesy at times (like I said, think Hallmark Horror) so not good for horror reader who like detailed, dense reads. It was too short (but that’s just me !). I wanted more focus on Anne and Rachel rather than Candace and Marian

This was a 4-1/2 Star for me. I went into this short story blind and at the end of the day, I am glad that I did. It ended up being a much darker tale than I expected it to be which made me smile from ear to ear. Without giving anything away I will say that this "Christmas Story" really makes you think about who is naughty and who is nice - it's all about perspective. I found it to be beautifully written and has good character development, even for a short. I definitely recommend this to anyone This was a 4-1/2 Star for me.
