Got to say I loved this book. Loved the anime style drawings. The visuals are awesome. I am really glad the focused the book on Ezra and Kanan. Playing up the Jedi angle just makes this so much better. This comic covers the first couple of episodes of Rebels. I don't if it was that I saw thus quite a while ago, or I missed some of the instance in the comic that where in the show but I really like how this book was done. Bonus story of Vader. Awesome as always. Got to say I loved this book. Loved the anime style drawings. The visuals are awesome. I am really glad the focused the book on Ezra and Kanan. Volume 1 of the Rebels manga adapts the premier of the Star Wars Rebels TV show, The Spark of Rebellion, into the Japanese comic format. It's certainly not a one-to-one adaptation and some artistic liberties have been taken, but the core of the story is there for sure. Akira Aoki definitely bends things to fit the style of the medium, which made me chuckle or smirk occasionally, seeing Ezra or Kanan have a very dramatic moment shouting things in a manner very unlike the show. I'm sure there's a bit that's lost in translation as well, since this was an English show translated to a Japanese manga and now back to English, so don't expect exact quotes of dialog. But the key strokes are all there: the marketplace heist, finding the Holocron, the Wookies on Kessel, and Agent Kallus all make their appearances. If you enjoy comics and especially the manga format, I think you'll enjoy the first volume of the Star Wars Rebels adaptation. It has the heart and soul of the TV show with a decidedly Japanese flair to it, which makes it a lot of fun to read.

This was a really entertaining read and a decent introduction to Star Wars Rebels for anime/manga fans, I think. I loved the adaptation of the first Rebels episodes (though it was a very abridged adaptation) and seeing everything happen in a manga art style was fun. The art was not the best at times but I can forgive that for the most part. Some physics were ignored to advance the plot at the beginning (Ezra’s slingshot would not be nearly powerful enough to redirect a cannon on an AT-ST, even using the Force to help). The part of the story where Zeb leaves Ezra to be captured is completely skipped over. Still, I enjoyed the book very much. The anime/manga tropes lend themselves well to this type of story with a focus on the little family that the Ghost crew will become. There’s also a great little Darth Vader short at the end (which I believe is adapted from the ‘Dark Lords of the Sith’ novel).

This was a quick and fun read. I wasn’t crazy about the character design, and the background drawings were sometimes chaotic. But this manga is a must for Rebels fans. It’s a great way to revisit the characters and stories from the animated series.

A fun retelling of the first few episodes of Rebels. I liked the way it got into both Ezra's and Kanan's heads. The art is gorgeous! A fun retelling of the first few episodes of Rebels. I liked the way it got into both Ezra's and Kanan's heads. The art is gorgeous!

I really hope that more and more stories from TV and books will be adapted in manga, or maybe even anime. This manga is very entertaining and well drawn.

The character designs are inconsistent, and the set style and composition often makes it difficult to tell what’s happening.
