It's hard to dislike a character as witty and full of lighthearted self-aggrandizement as Nate and a strip as full of fun and smart supporting castmembers. That said, it's been years since I've read Big Nate, and not much of anything has changed in that time; Nate has been a middle schooler since 1991 (and will be forever?). The realities of the newspaper strip, where characters and joke tropes stay essentially the same forever make the exceptions (Gasoline Alley and Doonesbury for starters) not It's hard to dislike a character as witty and full of lighthearted self-aggrandizement as Nate and a strip as full of fun and smart supporting castmembers. This collection of strips are fun, but, like late stage Peanuts, the fun is tempered by knowing you've seen it all before. **Thanks to the Artist, Publisher, and NetGalley for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

Review: Nate got himself in quite a difficult situation where he decided to date older student however as DeeDee said 'trouble in paradise' and he breaks up with her. I'd feel bad about break up but the fact that Trudy was never a good fit except, this is Nate we are talking about and he just bounces back to normal in no time.

Full disclosure: I request the Big Nate titles from Netgalley because my 11 year-old really enjoys them. To me, they're inoffensive in the same vein as the classic Snoopy comic books. A funny and ornery Nate in the life of a 6th grader. A comical layout that is comical in contend. A short spiel on the actual gerbil and I was beginning to wonder if there was gerbil. But forget about the gerbil, I forgot what drama there is in 6th grade. You have your favorite teachers and then you have those that know your number. You have the boy that seems to have it all and then you have Nate. Nate is prankster so if you don't want your sixth grader getting any ideals, you might want to read A funny and ornery Nate in the life of a 6th grader. A comical layout that is comical in contend. Last day of holidays so I got to burn through some books. Well, graphic novels for my kids that they got, but that I too enjoy. Nate did not disappoint, although I did want more of the gerbil than the few panels we got. The gerbil had the best lines in the last edition. Not much to say other than that if you have read any of these, you're not going to be disappointed but don't expect the characters to have changed much or for Nate to suddenly age .... Out September 2020 173 Pages MY THOUGHTS: I received this book in exchange for my honest opinion. Lincoln Peirce does it again. Funny as all get out, entertaining to the very end, and typical big Nate predicaments to enjoy. Yes, the fun of Big Nate remains the same since its hatching, but a pleasure and silliness for new eyes to enjoy. I like its consistency and “clean” sense of humor. It’s an easy read and comes with a collectible poster. The style of the artwork is bright and fun, the book is full of a great supporting cast that add to Big Nate’s stories and the strip will remain one of my favorites for all time. I love to share my Big Nate books with neighborhood kids so that they can be introduced to Peirce’s talent enough to carry the torch well into the future. Can’t wait to see what else Peirce comes up with.

Another winner! My son read this book in one sitting, he enjoyed it tremendously. The only problem is that he gets through it too quickly and it seems like forever for the next release. I'm a huge advocate for inspiring children to read, especially boys since they seem to be the hardest group to inspire to be avid readers. A great graphic comic for young and old. And you can't beat the sounds of giggles from your kiddo while reading a book he doesn't want to put down. Thank you Netgalley and Andr Another winner! Another of those classical Big Nate comic. You know the style. Short silly one page cartoon comic, with a «narrative» that can stretch for some pages, sometimes quite a while actually. Funny, entertaining and just a fun read for kids. I’m more of a Calvin reader, but this one I think is the equivalent for a younger generation. Well done!

Laugh out loud zaniness as only Big Nate can bring.

Out of Calvin? Try Nate When I first came across the earlier Nate books I thought they were fun enough, but not especially clever or insightful. Basically just school daze silliness and some typical recycled stuff. Well, one of us has grown up; or maybe both of us have. These books still aren't "edgy", but there are more and more pointed individual strips and story arcs in each collection, with this latest volume being a good example. Sure, there is a passing bit about the school gerbil, but there are fine story arcs covering jealousy, friendship, May/December romances, (i.e. sixth grade and seventh grade), and a surprising range of adult foibles. All of your favorite characters make appearances, and they too seem have grown up. Often they are the ones to deliver the punchlines after Nate has set up the gag. So, it's always nice to see a new Nate on the shelf, and it's great that they seem to be getting better and better. 'Big Nate: The Gerbil Ate My Homework' by Lincoln Peirce is a collection of Big Nate comics about the perpetual 6th grade troublemaker. This time around Nate uses the class gerbil to help destroy his homework. He also breaks up with his girlfriend and that has aftermath. He decides to shoot a superhero movie starring Chad. He proves why he is the king of Prank Day. You can't go wrong with a Big Nate collection. They are all a lot of fun and I am always pleased to see another one show up. I received a digital copy of this book from netgalley for an honest review. I read this to my 8 year old and she liked the story but she didn't love it. I on the other hand thought it was funny and cute. There were a couple things in the book that seem a little too old for her to understand. For example Twitter was mentioned and she has no idea what that is. I received a digital copy of this book from netgalley for an honest review. My 7 year old son LOVED this book. We read it together. He said our library should definitely buy it and that it's better than all the rest of the Big Nate books. "It's always just so funny," he told me. I'm concerned about the use of the word lame throughout the book. It is ableist language, so my son and I discussed it. My 7 year old son LOVED this book. Don's (Review): I don't know how many of these I've read now (Big Nate has been featured in comics for something like thirty years, so we're talking a lot), but as much as I very rarely have had a single negative thing to say about any Big Nate collection, somehow this one is even better than most; focusing on a new year in middle school during which (among other things) Nate breaks up with his girl, tries to pin his lack of homework skills on the hapless class gerbil, Sherman, and even turns his plump little friend and classmate Chad into a superhero by directing his first film, I laughed out loud even more at this school-focused collection that shows off Peirce's narcissistic little middle-schooler at his best. Or is it his worst? Either way, bring on some more of Big Nate - always. 4.5/5 stars NOTE: I received a free ARC of this title from NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review.
