This is book four of the Mystic’s End Mysteries and continues the story of Fortuna Delphi and the art shop and gallery she has set up when she moved to Mystic’s End. She moved there hoping to find out the identity of her real parents, after she had been left in the town as a foundling and no clues as to her real identity. She has two men who have been after her, Martin Salvi, the owner of the large complex outside of town and the greyhound track where she rescued her dog Gideon from. She moved there hoping to find out the identity of her real parents, after she had been left in the town as a foundling and no clues as to her real identity. She has two men who have been after her, Martin Salvi, the owner of the large complex outside of town and the greyhound track where she rescued her dog Gideon from. The other is Gabe, the deputy police chief and grandson of Miss Bessie, who has kept her magically abilities secret from everyone and was actually the town mystic, something she passed onto Fortuna with a slap. In this book we finally get to learn more about what this means at long last. Fortuna has been keeping her head buried in the sand about most of her issues and has been ignoring the message in the book that mysteriously came out of the ground for her, and also Miss Bessie who has constantly told her she must practise her scrying, as the book also instructed her! Gabe and Pepper went out on a secret date, but this finally resolved their relationship and there is nothing romantic between them anymore. Miss Bessie still keeps telling Fortuna that she will marry Gabe, but Fortuna has sworn off any relationships at the moment. Martin tries to get her attention again and finally reveals a little about himself, by inviting her to a meal at his mansion. Whilst there Fortuna spots what should have been a very valuable urn, but finds out it is a fake. Martin asks her to investigate what happened to the real urn and who could have taken it and when, since he only bought it a few months before. This means she will now be seeing him daily, but she also brings in Pepper and her new love interest, police officer Ollie, Gabe’s best friend and also a computer expert. Something they need as the investigation continues, not that this makes Martin too happy! Whilst doing this investigation, she finally finds out some uncomfortable home truths about Martin’s family and their business methods, as well as more about his bodyguard Jeeves. More people in the town now know she is a witch, whether that be just as a fortune teller, or as an actual mystic, coming from a long line of mystics going back far into the town’s true history. She is now the last in the line and what this will mean for her is unknown, but there are those who will want her dead, if they discover her true identity. Shame she chose a surname for herself that is deeply linked to the town’s past. The hunt for the stolen urn, which may turn out to never have even been stolen and a large number of surprises in Martin’s home, raise more questions for Fortuna than real answers. Finally getting the story of the town’s proper founders, a group of female witches and the disappearances of many of their descendants in recent years, leads to the fact that these witches have been trapped in bottles and most of them haven’t been found and no one, not even Miss Bessie, has been able to open the three that have been found, out of about twenty six. There is much more than the case of a stolen urn for Fortuna to worry about in this book. Finally, more is revealed about the town’s past, the importance of being the town mystic and also more about Martin and those who work for him. This is a great book to tie together a lot of what readers will have discovered in the previous books and is getting us closer to seeing what role Fortuna will have in the town. I can’t wait for what’s next! I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

For Martin, secrets about his family that he holds are apparently mire for the protection of folks in his circle with personal and paranormal connections Fortuna has a great deal of anger and frustration at his hidden secrets, but mostly does not share some of the ones she holds about herself, and about Miss Bessie, Gabe’s gran. Part of her reticence may be about not wanting to hurt him - both Bessie and Fortuna seem to want to shield him from that. Part of their reticence lies in their shared understanding Gabe would want to help, snd as a male without hereditary powers, there may well be nothing he could do - and his impulsive protective nature could destroy not only him, but jeopardize the efforts to find resolution for the trapped women’s souls in the town Does her greater anger at Martin mean a greater attachment to him for Fortuna? The writings of a mystical book urge Fortuna to scry. Perhaps in the next book she might do so, and perhaps a resolution to the imprisonments might be reached. Or perhaps the real battles have yet to begin Strong, proud women, annoying and interfering alpha males who are somehow endearing, phenomenal familiars, and frustrating romance mixed with epic drama! Quite a surprising collection For what I expected to be a simple psychic witch in a small town cozy series. Love it when I find even more inside of a book than I hoped for!

Secrets, Answers, and More Questions The storyline for this series and the characters are so rich and complex that I feel like giving any amount of detail about what actually happens in the story would be apt to confuse someone new to the series… and unnecessary for anyone who already knows and loves the series. Let me say right at the start that this series is very well written with layers of complexity that we don't typically see in a paranormal cozy mystery series. You shouldn't start with this book, or you may get confused as each book does build on the last. Start at the beginning if you love paranormal cozy mysteries because the writing is so well done that you will want to take your time and enjoy it from the start; this book will make much more sense if you do. In this book, our heroine learns more about herself, both her past and her paranormal abilities currently and what all that could possibly mean. We get more deeply involved with some of the lives of the other characters we've seen in other books, like Martin, and we learn much more about the place where the story happens. Of course, I loved Fortuna’s interactions with her paranormal cohorts, including her specter houseguest! This story is made richer by its context within the greater series. I am looking forward to the next installment to see what the heroine is going to experience next! I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review. Fortuna has Ollie and Pepper to help her with this mystery. That is just the tip of the iceberg in this story. You will drawn into the web of secrets and lies. Fortuna will learn about Martin, the town and herself. There is so much going on in. There are some big reveals. I am not going into details, not spoiling it for anyone. I highly recommend reading this. I would really like Gabe and Fortuna together, think there is better chemistry between the two. How many references to other things can you find like Stephen King movie(s)? I think I found at least three when I started counting. Fun, easy to read and standalone book. However, go back and get caught up because it is definitely going to get more interesting now. Can’t wait for next one. This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.

Fortuna's adventures in the semi-paranormal town of Mystic's End continue in this entertaining read. There is a lot to like about this book, some quirky and enjoyable characters, an involving story line, some light humour (a telepathic dog who loves to project visions of bacon to Fortuna) and even a bit of excitement. Fortuna Delphi and Miss Bessie are arguing that out of a hundred blank pages of parchment in the magical book, only one page has a message which is that Fortuna needs to learn to scry. But she already knows from her time as a fortune teller! This makes no sense to her. When Martin and Jeeves come into the store, the two seem tense. Martin Salvi invites her to dinner at his mansion. Fortuna Delphi came to Mystic's End for a quiet life, no more magic or bodies, just peace and quiet. But fate dictates life and Fortuna's was not meant to be like that. Frustrating and disappointing As a cozy read it has all the little love interests but there’s to much distrustful arguing and the main character is the one I wouldn’t trust. I may have needed to read the previous story/stories to this one, I was a bit lost as to the references as to happened before. So much self-doubt, angst, and overthinking, I don't think I can get into the main character; all the characters seem to be at the top level of what they portray - Ollie is just so laid back, Pepper is just so suspicious and alarmist, Martin is just so rich - and well these extremes are exhausting to read. I've been following this series from the beginning so I it's easy to join the dots, but 1. Where is the art of scrying? 2. Is there anything more cliched than some of the book? 3. Why is the ending so incomplete? The 3 star rating is only because I understand the base of the series and it does fit in more or less but out of all the books in the series out now, this is the weakest link. I think I spent most of this book with my mouth opened in total surprise! That and laughing...but mostly surprise. I can’t believe how much we learned in this book, and yet, there is still so much more to learn. I’m hooked on this series! A mysterious urn. Fortuna and friends can't resist a mystery. Martin wants it to only be the two of them but everyone seems to have a thought. This is a quick read of mystery and witchy fun. There's got to be much more to come. Awaiting for the next book. A mysterious urn. Fortuna and friends can't resist a mystery. Wow! Truly a great read. Best read if other books in the series have been read. A lot of questions answered but truly left me pining for the next book in the series! Seriously the best book so far. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Honestly Fortuna and Pepper both are terrible, judgemental women. They both are rude and annoying and honestly ruin the book. For someone who is supposed to be so smart...they both are dumber than a box of rocks.

My favorite of the series The series finally feels like it's taking a turn with the characters that I enjoy. The entire series has had unexpected twist that I never anticipated but all make more sense after reading this book. This book is defiantly worth a read. Love these books. I'm not a prude, but I enjoy reading a book without having sex thrown at me. Finding out who and what you are is very exciting. Making a group of friends is exciting to. Growing in understanding and learning new things is great. Love these books. I'm not a prude, but I enjoy reading a book without having sex thrown at me.
