Kindred spirits, it’s time for us to take a journey together. When you pass through the White Way of Delight keep going. It’s only about another mile before we reach our destination. Oh, there’s the Lake of Shining Waters. If you look over there you’ll see the house Diana lives in. She’s a kindred spirit too. Just a little further and … there it is! Green Gables! You’re home. Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert are sure to welcome you, as will Cordelia Anne (with an E). “And there’s one thing certain, Kindred spirits, it’s time for us to take a journey together. Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert are sure to welcome you, as will Cordelia Anne (with an E). “And there’s one thing certain, no house will ever be dull that she’s in.” Just make sure the drink Anne serves you is the drink you ordered … I’ve loved Anne since the day we met. This is such a beautiful adaptation. Everything I love about Anne’s story was included here, including her friendship with Diana, her rivalry with Gilbert and witnessing Marilla and Anne’s relationship deepen over the years. I even experienced my usual overwhelming need to hug Matthew whenever I see him. Yes, I did get a little bit teary during that scene. You know the one I’m talking about. I think I was too distracted by how cute everyone looked though, so I managed to avoid my customary full blown ugly cry. The illustrations were so lovely! They did make it quite difficult to take Anne’s complaints about her looks seriously because she’s so darn adorable in manga but I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Her doe eyes and that little tuft of hair that’s always sticking up are just so cute! Whenever I encounter Anne Shirley my heart feels full. I’m always left with this warm and fuzzy notion that the world is inherently beautiful and that hope and love will prevail, and this manga version of Anne’s story was no different. It left me with a delicious contented feeling. It seemed especially fitting, albeit decidedly strange given that we’re living in 2020 here, that the last sentence was: “All’s right with the world.” Thank you to NetGalley and UDON Entertainment for the opportunity to read this book. I’m all doe eyed about it and am already hankering for a reread. Blog - https://schizanthusnerd.com

This manga has been so well adapted. I read the first book a few months ago and I would say the manga adaptation is quite accurate! This has all the charm and heart of the original story with the upside of seeing Anne in all of her mischief. Anne is as captivating as every with her dialogue and every character, even the smaller one, are just so pleasant to read about. Just like Anne, you can't help love this story. The art is this mange is of classic manga style and unexpectedly suits the story. the illustrator did a great job in really embodying the feeling of Green Gables. Overall I highly recommend this book!

So glad I got approved of this ARC from NetGalley. Must read! I love Anne of Green Gables ever since I 'heard' her speaking her first sentence in the book. I was having exam tension a few months ago and I needed to read something good other than my academic books (bleh! Btw!🤦☺️) I love how fiercely independent most of the characters in this series are and are made to be that way. This story was way ahead of its times and written in such a way as to show the best sides of adults, children and the school authorities instead of keeping on focus the dreaded monotonous life and what was expected of a girl child to become. The basic lessons this series try to tell is girl child education and upliftment, independence and being conscious of what's going on around, sieze the opportunities whenever they present themselves, being there for those in need, friendship and found families. Totally in love with the characters. I love how Gilbert Blythe turned out to be the handsome amazing guy he's supposed to be. And I totally love Anne's best friend Diana. I totally adore her adoptive parents. Best fictional parents 🖤 It gets heartbreaking at times. But yes, go for it. It's amazing!

I have memories of watching some kind of screen adaptation (I don't remember exactly which one) of Anne of Green Gables when I was a kid. They are very proud to say they are the only authorized Manga adaptation - which made me wonder exactly how many there are out there. Reading that state however made me realized that I actually already read a graphic novel of Anne of Green Gables a couple of years ago, which was also quite nice. The art - as always - is very nice and I thought it captured Anne's spirit quite well. While I can't compare it to the original book, normally these adaptations stay very close to the original work (even using lines from the books for much if not all of the text). I wouldn't be surprised if this was also the case for the Anne adaptation. This is a great way to introduce Anne of Green Gables to a new audience - those who might be tempted less to start an older book - but just as much fun for those who have read/would gladly read the original. I was initially hesitant to request [and then read] this for a couple of reasons; I am still pretty confused about the Manga world [I am an old white woman who never read comics or anything like that and am just now getting into graphic novels and the such], and as I love Anne of Green Gables, I was afraid that it was a rip off of that beloved world. I was so happy to find that the Ms. Chan had contacted the heirs of L.M. Montgomery and received their blessing and decided then that this would probably be really good and close to the original text. The confusion about Manga and how to read it [I had to finally make a note to remind me to start from the right and read left] still applies, BUT!!!! it didn't change how much I enjoyed this new way to read a beloved book. While not the complete text, Ms. Chan kept the heart of the book and I found it to be a delightful way to revisit old friends. The illustrations were amazing - I never felt that anyone [with NO disrespect to Colleen Dewhurst, who played Marilla in the original movies and whom I loved every second she was on the screen] quite got Marilla correct; she is described in the book as tall and spare and this illustrator got her absolutely correct, in my opinion. Her imagining of Anne and Diana were also delightful and really made the book fun to read. The only one I felt wasn't exactly right was Matthew, but I am overly partial to Matthew and so I am not sure anyone would get what my head tells me he looks like! ;-) A wonderful read and addition to the Anne of Green Gables world; I highly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of that world. I know I will be buying this for my young niece who LOVES Manga, to introduce her to the world of Anne of Green Gables [and then I will give her the book and let her fill in the blanks]. Absolutely delightful. Thank you to NetGalley and Manga Classics Inc. for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

In this classic story, Anne is an orphan who comes to live with Marilla and Matthew. She has an overactive imagination and a talent for getting into mischief, but she is delighted with her new home at Green Gables. Condensing such a complex and deep story into manga form works very well here, and the plot closely follows the original story. Even the dialogue is almost always exactly the same as the book. I loved the artwork so much! Beautiful panels in every chapter that draw you into the story. T In this classic story, Anne is an orphan who comes to live with Marilla and Matthew. Seeing the expressions on character's faces as they experience joy, grief, fear, sadness, or relief, made me feel those things too as I was reading! Every character is exactly like I always imagined while reading the original book. Anne is full of joy and playfulness. Her imagination shines through her eyes when she is caught up in a beautiful dream world of her own. Marilla is the perfect balance of stern and practical strictness, but with a soft heart of gold. I was enchanted with Diana and Gilbert and the whole gang! What a delight to revisit this beloved classic in manga form! 'But if you call me Anne, please call me Anne spelled with an e.' Just finished this in one sitting and I loved it! I’ve always been a huge fan of the original books and I really want to reread them now. The drawings in this manga are super cute and the plot was summarized well. I think it’s not an easy task to adapt such a great story, a classic, but the result is impressive. There are also infos about how the original book was adapted and a character design sketchbook at the end. This manga is f 'But if you call me Anne, please call me Anne spelled with an e.' Netgalley ARC Listen. I know there is a book out there, I know of at least two shows that are out there. But I have never seen or read anything about Anne of Green Gables. So this was my introduction. I wasn't that into it at the beginning. Anne is one of those people that I just hate in real life, cause this girl keeps on talking and talking. But she really grew on me. I truly love her story. I love the different relationships she had. When I finished the Manga, I needed more. I really, really, RE Netgalley ARC Listen. *thank you to Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review* 4 stars. I'd never read Anne of Green Gables before so I was quite interested in reading this after much success with Jane Eyre Manga Classic, and I can honestly say that I was not disappointed. This was a wonderful way to tell the story as it was enjoyable and felt really well suited to the manga style. I would highly recommend this for a beginner or even those who have read the story over and over. *thank you to Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review* 4 stars. Excellently done - but one glaring mistake - Anne has her hair all cut off, but it magically grows into long braids right away. Besides that it was really all grand.

Oh, this was so good! When I finished, I had such a satisfied and nostalgic feeling! I had read Anne of Green Gables so many times that I've memorized it, especially specific scenes and it was great to read a manga adaptation. The very best part was how accurate this was. It did skip some (tedious flowery but still interesting) spots that were in the book, but it stayed very very faithful to the other scenes included down to the very wording. I really loved seeing their interpretation of Gilbert and his angst with Anne. It was quality. Almost everyone is drawn in a cute way. The only exception to this were some of the elderly that had a strange eye shape. They were trying for semi-realism but they got creepy. I loved seeing Anne and Diana in their cutesy anime girl art style! Gilbert's character design threw me off since I pictured him completely different but I got used to him fast. I'd love if the same people did adaptations of books 2 and 3 too! It would be amazing to see Anne and Gilbert go to college. **Thanks NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!!**

Arc provided by Netgalley Anne of Green Gables is one of my favorite series of all times so I will take in any format - the original books, the 80's movies, the netflix series and, apparently, the manga adaptation as well. I had never read a manga before but I will definitely repeat the experience. The drawings were beautiful and captivated Anne's essence perfectly, as did the dialogue. Matthew Cuthbert was immediately enchanted by this queer girl and managed to convince his sister, Marilla, to let Anne stay. Over the next four years, we got to see Anne go on so many adventures. From making a bosom friend to a competitive rivalry with Anne's most hated person, Gilbert Blythe. Anne was definitely a queer girl. She had such a big heart and an even bigger imagination. She got herself into the worst of troubles and somehow managed to escape them all. Her friendship with Diana was everything. It's a friendship that would last forever and a friendship I hope to have with my own friends. While reading the original Anne of Green Gables, I could see Anne growing up and maturing emotionally. But the cool thing about this manga was I got to see Anne grow physically, too. It was gradual and definitely not define, but it was there and it added to Anne's development as a character. Poor, poor, Gilbert Blythe. I know Anne and Gilbert had their differences. But he genuinely seemed like a great guy. And they seemed like they would be great friends...and maybe more. (I'm really excited to read the next book!) The manga simplified the book a lot, but it still followed the story line very well. I wouldn't read this book before the actual book. But it is a great companion novel for fans of the classic book. There were a lot going on in each pages and I'm not a big manga reader, so it was hard to get into the book at first. But when I did, I loved every moment of it. The illustrations were stunning and Anne was adorable! I cried so much at the end of the original book and somehow I still cried again. It wasn't easy, what Anne had to deal with at the end of the book. But somehow, she still kept her chin up and her determination strong. And that's something I really admire! This was a quick read but since the story was such a classic, it is one that I won't be forgetting anytime soon. I loved the illustrations, the characters, the writings...everything! And I do hope the author plans on writing more manga of this series!

I was curious about Manga Classics, so I picked up one that I’ve read in prose format and one that I haven’t. This is the one where I’d read the original before, although probably 20 years ago. I think it’s a great adaptation — it’s amazing how they can use much of what I assume/think is the original text, but just cutting it up into digestible pieces and adding the images makes it so much more accessible. My only complaint is that some of the shorter chapters (or ones that they’ve made short for this adaptation) are just a page, and it feels a bit jarring when it goes off in another direction immediately afterwards; I can see some kids/teens used to intense action finding the slice of life style a bit dull. All that said, this is delightful, especially the early parts. Anne is a perfect candidate for being manga-fied — her wholesome melodrama translates really well. She’s always throwing herself down on a table and sobbing or shouting about how beautiful something is. Some of the things that as a kid I admired about Anne (yelling “I hate you!” at a friend of the family who says she’s ugly) seem like a bit much now, but overall she’s very endearing. Also, Anne + Diana 4ever. Thanks to Netgalley for the copy!

It had been too long since I read any Manga Classics adaptations, so I made the mistake of starting at the back xD It's not a big deal though. I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to the publisher for giving me a free copy in exchange for an honest review. I really loved this! After having seen the Netflix series I have been really intrigued in the story adaptations since the original books were published. I loved this version of the story. The art style was gorgeous and it was very easy and quick to read through which was very nice. They kept a nice contrast in the story and it did definitely not disappoint.

I’ve never read the original that this Manga adaptation was based of off. What I can say is that this is the kind of stuff that might point next generations into picking up the original works. I feel like it was a job well done and will not hesitate to recommend it to people.

I received an ARC from Netgalley. This manga was incredible! I loved the way the original story was represented with a focus on the main friendships and relationships. I felt like the reader is given the right amount of information about Anne's character without being overwhelmed by the dense. writing of the original novel. Manga Classics offers another beautiful and stylish look at a story that readers know well. These books are ideal for the classroom and sure to engage a wide audience -- the ideal work to introduce new generations to works that have been handed down.

Thanks to the publisher for providing an eARC of Manga Classics Anne of Green Gables in exchange for an honest review. I'm so glad I live in a world where there are endless adaptations of Anne of Green Gables. Manga Classics stays loyal to it's source material, often times quoting the original text word for word (there's actually a fairly good chance every word in here is a quote. I'm ashamed to admit I've yet to memorize every single word from L. M. Montgomery's original novel). I'm ashamed to admit I've yet to memorize every single word from L. M. Montgomery's original novel). The artist perfectly catches Anne's whimsy and translates her glowing imagination into a new medium. My only complaints are actually how stunning it was. Anne (though gorgeous in soul, mind, and spirit) was never meant to be a particularly good looking child (fun fact: L. M. Montgomery actually got mad at an adaptation once for casting too pretty of an actress to play Anne) and seeing her complain about her homeliness while being nowhere near homely gave a few scenes a much different vibe. Same goes for some of the darker scene. The darkest was wonderfully handled (you know what I'm talking about but I'm not going to talk about it because I'm still heartbroken) but a lot of Green Gables adaptations gloss over the darkness of Anne's past. While this does include the darkness of Anne's life pre-Green Gables, it's dialogue set against wide eyed, cheery Anne and it significantly lessened the emotional impact. (this is the first Manga I've ever read so I can't really compare it to anything)

The whole thing was touching, and I found myself smiling through it and feeling my heart warm and fuzzy. The story follows Mr. and Mrs. Cuthbert who decided to adopt a boy to help Mr. Cuthbert around his farm, but their surprise, the asylum sends a girl, Anne Shirly. She has an imagination bigger than the world and falls in love with the smallest simplest details. “Life is worth living as long as there's a laugh in it.” The friendship between Diana and Anne is amazing! They had each other back, they were loving each other of nothing but the person they are. I had the series of book in mt TBR since I saw the trailer for the Netflix show, but now, I will definitely read the books!

    • Anne of green gables So I have read anne of green gable classic version before and so many times that I've memorized it, so I kind of had somewhat mediocre expectations from this version. But, this was so good! When I finished, I had such a satisfied and nostalgic feeling. It did skip some scenes that were in the classic book, but it stayed very loyal to the other scenes included down to the very descriptive words. I loved seeing Anne and Diana in manga style! Gilbert's character design threw me off a bit, but I got used to him fast with the flow. I really loved seeing their interpretation of Gilbert and his angst with Anne. So I recommend this graphic novel to anyone who wanna dive in some classic without getting bored or serious at some points. Also last but not the least kudos to the graphic artist. You did good. **Thanks NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!!**  • Character development- 3.5☆ • Story Plot- 4☆ • Side characters- 3.5☆ • Flow of the story- 5☆ • Overall - 4☆
