This is one of the best novels I have read in this year - 2019. Amit Bagaria has done his very best in his very debut attempt at fiction writing and I must say that it's going to be the sure bestseller in the political thriller genre. Don't miss it - you will like it instantly and it's a one-sitting novel. You can easily finish it in one go and within 5 hours if you are a regular reader. What was the plan? You will keep asking until you finish the last page.

I don't remember reading any subtle poltical thriller in fiction written by any Indian author. This is the first time that I have shown interest in reading a book like this and believe me I am highly impressed. You can easily relate real people to the characters like Karak Mehta as the name symbolises too many things. The novel is based on fragile Indo-Pak realtion, internal poltics of India and Pakistan and various aspects of military and intelligence. You must read it.

This novel is action-packed, engaging, and quite compelling. It has the full potential of transforming into a film. The suspense gripped me immediately from the start until the end. This being the author's first fiction book, he has unquestionably done a marvelous job. If, after reading this book, it doesn't elevate you to do the best for your land, I don't know what will. I wish that he could have avoided allowing the first 18% of the book going into the praise of his past writings. I would surely recommend this one to everyone who relishes political thrillers. Believe me, you just can't put this one down.

I liked the books by Amit Bagaria when it comes to his non-fiction collection. However, this novel makes things complicated because of the author's hurried narrative and an extensive urge to club everything in a single novel. There are many things in the novel that makes the readers think favorably of this work by Amit. It has politics, thriller, excitement and also elements of espionage that would make a good read for the interested readers.

Why did Amit Bagaria waste almost two years of his writing career in nonfiction books when he could have written a fiction thriller as good as this ?I enjoyed it a lot. Couldn't put it down, once i picked it up.i would love more of like these novels from him.

The truth about Indian fiction writing is that it often follows a trail... however, there are the books that make you fall in love with the narrative and the way the tale is told... Amit Bagaria has done the same with this novel and you will just get stuck with the thrilling fiction filled with politics, excitement, sensuality and war-tactics...

Spies, Lies and Red Tape uses the premise of the relationship between the countries India and Pakistan. The author, to educate the reader, gives a briefing about the various wars waged by theses two countries. The story starts with the missing of the PM of India and takes us through a recap of the events which has led to it. This is followed by the short stories of three relationships which eventually decide the outcome of the climax. At the confluence of the recap and the short stories the stage for the big climax is set and what ensues is a series of deadlines, revelations and attacks. The book has nothing new to offer in terms of the plot, but provides wealth of details about how the actions and events are done. The author reveals the research conducted for the book when he elaborates the nitty gritties of the geography and arsenal of the countries. The writing is crisp and does not drag anywhere to test the reader's patience. The author also has taken care not to fall into the maze of innumerable characters thereby making the narration straightforward. The book is recommended for die hard fans of spy thrillers and those who wouldn't mind finishing a book in one sitting, for such is the hang of the book.

Once the initial half introduction to the spies, explaining the political vacuum and plot is established, it is a wonderful fast-paced and gripping roller-coaster ride for the second part. I was very impressed with the depiction of the historical accuracy and bold as well as the dramatic narration of the story. The plot basically refers to the political tension between India and its neighboring country Pakistan. The interesting part is when the spies from different countries India, Pakistan, Russia, and China get interwoven with the plot. I read the book in one sitting and the author's observations were both surprising and insightful. This is a thriller ride and I am sure all the history or political fans will devour it. This book will definitely make you think and opens up a whole new world of spies for us. I also enjoyed the writing style, the characters are interesting and I loved how the author has highlighted the content with amazing narration. I was hooked to the story until the end. I would definitely recommend this page-turner thriller and a vibrant fresh story with powerful characters which made it feel like an alternative truth. Spies, Lies and Red Tape by Amit Bagaria is set in the year 2019-2020 when a coalition government comes up, cobbled up due to the inability of the incumbent to secure the majority in the General Elections. Despite Winning only 35 seats in the elections, the Neelima Gupta is chosen as the Prime Minister because she refused to support the government otherwise. Known to be loyal to her state and her vote bank, she takes some decisions that are merely a part of appeasement politics and nothing else. On the other side of the border, Imran Ul-Haq, Special Secretary-China and Far East-Ministry of Foreign Affairs befriends the newly appointed Minister in the Chinese embassy at Islamabad-Wang Li. He gets close to her and things start getting comfortable. While in the north, Brigadier Farooq Hussain, Defence Attaché at the Embassy of Pakistan in Moscow comes across a beautiful Katya Petrov, an agent of the FSB. Things take a turn when Indian defence camps get attacked by terrorists and instead if responding, Neelima Gupta decides to extend an olive branch to our neighbor and goes to sign a treaty. Her aircraft takes off from Islamabad at 7.45 am PKT and was expected to land in India at 9.10 am IST. Slowly, it changes routes and is suddenly diverted towards south and the Air Traffic Controller at IGIA, New Delhi contacts the Air Force, but gets no response. In other tun of events, soldiers of the Indian Army and tanks start arriving at important government offices in New Delhi. What was happening? Was the plane carrying the Indian cabinet hijacked? Was it a military Coup? Spies, Lies and Red Tape by Amit Bagaria is written in a very crisp and no-nonsense manner. The plot is nicely crafted, and the title does full justice to the plot as we see that Spies, Lies and red tape are the backbone of the happenings of the story. The story outlines how political will is something that forms an important aspect of the defence mechanism of a country. The book also shows how important does intelligence and the spy network of a country is in order to either save it or to create havoc in another. Lastly, it brings out the fact that no matter now powerful the Legislature might become, it should always put the national interest first or it will surely be put to task by the patriots. Though a fictional story, the plot looks relatable at many points. The thrill is maintained till the end and the politics of it all just amazed me. Talking about the characters, Amit has created some very amazing characters in the book. Though completely fictional, one can wonder if they have seen shades of these characters in the world around us. Talking in detail about them is a spoiler so I’ll suggest one reads the book in the manner it is written, specially some of the pronunciations and I am sure you’ll get the hang of the book. For me, Spies, Lies and Red Tape was a wonderful experience and I’ll really like another book of this sort to be penned by the author.

The author has written several books about Indian Politics but this is his first attempt in the fiction category. There are several factors of this book like Indo-Pak Relations , Life of Spies and the most important factor was that what would have happened if aa different government would have been formed. The author did not try too hard to cover the identities of the political figures from whom the characters were inspired from in the books. In fact there were subtle but obvious hints for uncovering the characters in the book . For example : An English news anchor with thick hair with spectacles and belonging to the north-eastern state of Assam who screams several times during his television show. Zero points for guessing. The book tells us about lives of Spies and how professional they have to be all the time. It also tells us how most of the politics is based on Lies and how our constitution allows that a person with only 35/543 seats in the Lok Sabha can become the Prime Minister and what are the outcomes if such a person does become the PM. It is a good first attempt for fictional writing and in no way I felt that I was getting bored or had to skip some pages or something. It was exciting . Just a few editing mistakes here and there could be fixed . The Prime Ministers character was hugely exaggerated though , like it is common knowledge that she has a soft spot for Muslims ( not a bad thing at all) but offering to award the Bharat Ratna to the Prime Minister of Pakistan is just taking it to another level. All in all a good book . Recommended. What? Why? How? (Read the title and the description. It was enough to make me get the book!) I'm afraid that if I give a slight more information I will just spill out spoilers!!! The books basically consists of India trashing Pakistan, the ongoing in and out politics, the army dealing the matters in their own way (a way of being patriotic) and other bunch of political satire. Throughout the read you feel angry as well as patriotic!!! 🤓✌️💜 It's the first time for the Author to write a political-military fiction genre so don't except a S. Hussain Zaidi level. But he has done much better for his first time and I see hopes that we might have "Amit Bagaria" style too!!!! Language is simple and easy to understand and the story is nerve-racking. The Author has written a lot of political non-fiction and hence has immense knowledge on the topic. So the book is much detailed and filled with information which I loved but some might find disturbing...But I really appreciate the author's will in writing a fiction that too on military politics being a Political Non-fiction critic writer. Would be eagerly waiting for the next work!!!I just couldn't keep the book down!!! Read it in one sitting (4hrs20mins)... It was a wonderful nerve racking reading experience.

Will she take strict action against this attack? And who are those Gang of Six that are planning to take revenge on these terror attacks? Review- From the blurb I thought it will be a spy story but in fact it is very different from that. It is a mixture of spy meets military meets political thriller kind of story. There are too many characters and when I say too many means probably around 5-6 characters in a single page which makes it too confusing and too hard to understand the actual storyline. I guess author could have avoided all those characters and just involve important ones. The plot is not believable only because of one condition. I understand it is a fiction story but still I don't think the strategies which the author has shown will be plausible in real life if such terror attacks strikes. Author has done an impressive research on the book and it clearly shows in the narration. You can clearly see the plot and characters are inspired from real life and it is very interesting to read something like this.

This book is his debut fiction novel! 🕵️‍♂️ The book starts with the missing of Indian PM and narrates the recap of events that lead to it. The story focusses on the tensed, cracking relationships between India and Pakistan. The author sets the tone for the impending war between the two nuclear powers by briefing us about the previous wars between them. This is followed by stories of relationships between the honey-trapped spies which ultimately decides the climax. In between these, the Gang of Six high - ranked heads plan for the big war to destroy the terrorist hideouts. Will the Indian PM be found safely? What will happen to the lives of the Indians amidst terror alerts from their neighbors? Read on to find answers to these gripping questions. 🕵️‍♂️ As a debut fiction author, Amit sir has done a good job. He has stated at the very beginning that the military ranks, organization are true and real facts. He has also provided accurate details on the working and lifestyle of RAW agents and other military organizations. I feel that the author has gone overboard with details about the sexual lives if these agents, which could have been avoided to keep pace with the grippiness of the story. Nevertheless, the author's way of narration bemused me as I could find striking resemblance to real life people that the characters are based on!

It is spotted that the plane is moving towards Sri Lanka by IGIA's control tower. Reading about all the historical events and fictional Indo-Pak situation was quite thrilling. For security purpose and intelligence plan the COAS announced of taking PM and cabinet members into military's custody. The author has very nicely portrayed the political pressure and it's influence on military and spies. We have to see how the situation is handled by the military and the government? Who actually hijacked the PM? Read the book to know the answers. . . The narrative technique was good showing RAW getting involved and handling many situations. There are three sub-plots which is followed by the spy networks and how information is extracted from the suspects. . . The cover of the book is very attractive where the black colour suggests the darkness in the story. A crime is scene can be predicted by the red tape. The title is apt where spies, betrayal and suspense is there. All in all a good book to read.

In Venezuela, and iran and iraq helping each other in crisis situation. And author cleverly make this into India Pakistan war, which i find childish, as it is as difficult to pass the order of attack without PM and getting it signed from president, whose power is themselves controlled by MP and MLA resolutions, even if under military pressure this can't passed until the military dictatorship is imposed. If that happens India will loose position as UN member , and. UN was not contacted by Pakistan otherwise intervention of UN will have stop it and i think author miss that point. And that make this book idea irrelevant.

Regardless, the first half of the book minorly deals with the working of spies, rather the sexual lives of the spies have been vividly described. Their personal lives getting affected due to the tough job, emotions and sentiments are not more than their job. . . The second half is about the actions from Indian army to deal with the terrorism on the borders that the neighboring country is spreading breaking all protocols and as usual always denying it, even if the global media has the proof. . The story includes a great satire about Neelima Gupta (since I am from W.B, I can relate to the dialogues more). . . The headline topic "Rafale" has been used in an essential and positive perspective. . Overall, the story is more like an answer for "If not {MEHTA} then whom, then the fictional journey of some "WHO" has been depicted. . As just a fictional story, it is an enjoyable experience to read this book, and quite interesting.

The political and military mechanics are well-plotted into a fictitious tale with every aspect detailed and to the point. The story gives you an insight into what takes place in the various levels of the administrative and defense sectors when there arises any issue of National Security. The narration is kept simple and understandable for the readers. The roles of various associations like ISI, RAW and their agents is also very competently described. Overall a must-read for thriller lovers out there.
