I see the appeal of the book, and it's very fun and has some very charming characters (like Jack! He was fantastic!) and hints of a cute romance between Scarlett and Kolton, but what is promised on the back of the book doesn't happen until nearly 80 pages before the end. I think I've learned medieval christian romance is not my genre in general, so if you like this genre, I'm sure you'll adore this book! Well, I am clearly not the demographic this book was written to include. I found Scarlett just irritating and annoying. She can't manage to keep herself from being flat out rebellious against a caring and protective father. While this read was heavy-handed with religious overtones, it made me really wonder, if her father loved her so much, why was she constantly willing to defy him? While this read was heavy-handed with religious overtones, it made me really wonder, if her father loved her so much, why was she constantly willing to defy him? I know there are scriptures about disobedient children and if she were my child, she would have been punished as befitting the time period. I don't understand the significance of Britta's death. It makes no advancement to the story whatsoever and seemed a useless waste of a character. I liked Jack but that is probably the only character I did enjoy. Kolton was fine but not really a swoon-worthy hero. I guess with all the high ratings, I just expected more. This was not an edge-of-your-seat exciting fantasy adventure as it was touted. I found that disappointing and the story wanting. Again, my opinion isn't the popular one but it is mine nonetheless. One profanity, no gore, some violence. Try it, it might be a perfect fit for you!!

My goodness for this book to have been written by a 16year old girl is amazing! There is lots of depth to it, Ms. Catherine has done an excellent job of writing a story with a great plot and she doesn't let you in on why Scarlett must be kept an eye on until very close to the end. She has wonderful sub plots as well. Her characters come alive as you become submerged into the story. I enjoyed getting to know Scarlett and her brothers Jack the handsome flirty, sensitive one and Cordel who seems very difficult to understand as he has no kind words for his family. I also enjoyed Britta, Scarlett's maid and mother figure. Merida, is Scarlett's best friend and it is fun to hear her as she experiences love and tries to convince Scarlett she should try it. Scarlett is such a beautiful main character, she gets herself into quite the predicaments. You will never believe that you are reading a book by someone so young, Ms. Catherine has a wonderful future ahead of her if she decides to continue writing. Bravo, young lady! I received a free download of this book from the publisher. I have decided to leave a review first because I truly enjoyed it, second to encourage the author to continue writing and last because I hope by giving my own honest opinion it will encourage others to give this book a try.

Hard to believe this book was written by a sixteen year old. Better written that some stories I have read by seasoned writers. Her other brother Jack and she are closer, but she has no freedom. She can't go any where without a guard, and she can't ride in the woods. No one will tell her why. Her father and Cordel treat her like a baby but she is fifteen, and they shouldn't be keeping secrets from her it it s about her. But just as she has finally met Kolton, the son of a Baron, and someone she might feel more for than just friends he is sent away with her two brothers to defend her father's land and she is kidnapped. Someone wants revenge against her father and will use to get it.

As long time friends of this teen aged author's parents, I thought I would quickly read her book and write up a nice little review, but I really wasn't expecting a whole lot from this first attempt at a novel. After reading it, I was so much more than pleasantly surprised! It's a well crafted and entertaining tale of a 15 year old young lady in medieval times who is headstrong, impulsive and extraordinarily courageous, and chafing at the constraints placed on her by her family. Sibling dynamics play a large role in this story and adds depth often lacking in YA romances. I look forward to reading the next book as it is published in this entertaining series.

I’m impressed at this debut novel from someone so young. Really impressed. I devoured this book. Wonderfully developed characters. A strong storyline and plot with tension. I really appreciated the familial angles shown. This book was intricate and exciting. It kept me on my toes and in suspense. It kept me guessing and all the while pulled me to read more and more. This book was refreshing and I can’t wait to see what Gabriella writes next (hopefully it’s a sequel!).

Precious! Oh my! Where do I begin? I had no idea that they author was still in high school. She has so much talent....God-given. It was so refreshing to read a truly clean book. I loved the characters and also the way the main character loved her brothers. I loved the way old-fashioned courtesy and respect was shown. Kolton was a true and honorable young man. May God continue to bless you.j

Realistic and Engaging I found Escape the Woods to be a very enjoyable read. The true-to-life assumptions that created misunderstandings and hardships between the siblings drew me forward. I had to keep reading to see how they resolved their conflicts. I would have enjoyed in more developed picture of the family’s faith in God, but there was enough given to see the strength faith gave to their love for one another

Exciting Adventure I loved this book! Lots of action, narrow escapes, medieval dances, banquets, hunts, and romance. The author did an amazing job with the descriptions, you feel as though you are right there partaking in the merriment as well as the dangers. The characters were vivid and deep. I highly recommend this book and author! Happy Reading!

This is a good book. I'm not into fantasy books, but this one was good. If you love clean fantasy books you need to check this out. Even if you are not into fantasy books, you might enjoy this one too. Even though I was given an advanced copy of this book, it in no way influenced my opinion and this is my honest review. Captivating This book was well written. The story is very intriguing. I enjoyed reading about Scarlett and her brothers. How her father, the Duke, is always very protective of her. Tragedy and dangers are a part of life. Having faith in God gets us through it all.

Gabriella is beyond talented for not only her age, but also generally speaking. i found myself practically tied to my couch for two days so i could finish it. it was clean and wholesome, which i LOVED.
