This is a very lovely, elegant book, and I all the recipes I have tried so far have been delicious. I do wish that this book had more pictures -- it seems to be going for a rather minimalist approach to photos, with sometimes a whole blank page being used for just a small picture in the middle. But when you end up with text having to describe at length how something should look or be shaped, there really should just be a picture of it. But when you end up with text having to describe at length how something should look or be shaped, there really should just be a picture of it. The book also covers a tremendously diverse array of recipes, perhaps too much so. I felt like the author really went to great lengths to try to include recipes from all over the world, even from places that have just very tiny Jewish communities. And many of these recipes are not particularly "Jewish." I've spent a lot of time in the former Soviet Union, including Azerbaijan, and she includes several Azeri recipes that are really just very ordinary Azeri fare. If you want to cook these recipes, I'd recommend getting a cookbook that is specific to that cuisine.

This is my new go-to source for holiday and everyday recipes. I love being able to learn about the rich variety of Jewish cultures around the world through food, and this cookbook will be in heavy rotation for many years to come!
