This book was incredible right from the start. They was no long preamble, it just jumped right into action, and then the world was built bit by bit. I thought Mack was really deep and I kept wanting to know his secrets. The relationships of the characters were dynamic, and I felt they held true no matter what situation they faced.

I mostly stick to reading self-help books, thought i love to watch sci-fi shows and movies. Since there's been no real new sci-fi that's caught my eye this year I was craving a new story, and the backcover really drew me in on this. I bought the paperback, but can only find the kindle on here to review. I'm happy to say it lived up to the hype. It's definitely more fantasy than sci-fi, though i've heard the sequel is supposed to be in space. Totally engrossing worldbuilding. I read this at night after work, and it was a wonderful escapism. The characters are dynamic, and I'm a big fan of omnipresent perspective which is harder to find. I'll certainly be reading it again in the future. Anyone with a love for dystopian books needs to read this! Totally engrossing worldbuilding. This book reminded me so much of those epic RPG adventures from late 90's and early 2000s, like some of the final fantasy games, xenogears, and suikoden. The dystopian setting is epic, the world building is vast, and has almost a steam-punk feel to the descriptions. I Basically finished reading this in like 48 hours because I needed to know what came next; every time I picked it up I couldn't put it down. It's fast-paced action the entire way through.
