The old gods have returned, and there will be hell to pay. Now that Yggdrasil has been regrown, Madeline must face the old gods’ judgment. She shouldn’t exist, and they know it. The world has been irreparably changed, and perhaps the Vaettir no longer have a place in it. Madeline had thought that once she destroyed her rival she would be safe. Now she knows just how wrong The old gods have returned, and there will be hell to pay. Now that Yggdrasil has been regrown, Madeline must face the old gods’ judgment. Turns out that the war being waged is once again a war between rival old Gods and poor Madeline is thrown right into it and as usual too humans or in this case the Vaettir are the ones suffering the consequences. Madeline is pure energy, a part of nature needed in the world to keep the balance so her energy had been perpetuated through the Morrigan and Hecate herself. Once Madeline had re-grown Yggdrasil wild magic was running amok, the Old Gods were returning and Hecate wanted to return too so Turns out that the war being waged is once again a war between rival old Gods and poor Madeline is thrown right into it and as usual too humans or in this case the Vaettir are the ones suffering the consequences. Madeline is pure energy, a part of nature needed in the world to keep the balance so her energy had been perpetuated through the Morrigan and Hecate herself. Once Madeline had re-grown Yggdrasil wild magic was running amok, the Old Gods were returning and Hecate wanted to return too so she tricked Madeline into her own dark and dead realm. As Madeline's preferred course of action is always to jump right into danger she fell for her ploy and now she has turned her own life and that of her friends into one hell of a mess. The Gods never play fair and Odin the all-father was the worst of the lot. Will Madeline be able to free her family from Asgard and return them safely home? A very exciting novel, which has still not reached a satisfying ending!! So onward to book 6.

I would have continued to read this series, as annoying as it was that every 3 seconds they stopped to explain some far-fetched magical theory or where Maddy came from, or her magic, or whatever they could possibly think to explain, but then... the dreaded love triangle, or what would more accurately be referred to as cheating started and I'm done. Love triangles show up, I check out. Not that I'm surprised, Maddy's turning into a regular Mary Sue. No one, but no one, can handle whatever's happen I would have continued to read this series, as annoying as it was that every 3 seconds they stopped to explain some far-fetched magical theory or where Maddy came from, or her magic, or whatever they could possibly think to explain, but then... the dreaded love triangle, or what would more accurately be referred to as cheating started and I'm done. Maddy and Maddy alone can save the world. Maddy who has so many gorgeous guys hanging all over her. Maddy who is practically a goddess but not, but has that energy but not, but... blah, blah, blah. Yeah, at this point, don't care anymore.

Madeline has certainly come along way since being abducted by the Vaetti, she has regrow yydgrasil, but at what cost to her and her loved ones, not to mention the world itself. An old god is talking to her and wants her to come to her realm, and an old god has returned. Do the old gods want her dead, afterall she is made up of death energy. By regrowing yydgrasil she has unleashed untold magic into earth. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and it didn’t always go where I expected, I thought this wa Madeline has certainly come along way since being abducted by the Vaetti, she has regrow yydgrasil, but at what cost to her and her loved ones, not to mention the world itself. Still hooked! Rarely do I find a series that keeps my interest past book 3, but here I am finishing book 5 and ready for book 6! I love the characters, the different realms, and the many twists and turns! I did however find myself skimming through some paragraphs, a little over descriptive at times for me. Besides that I absolutely LOVE it!

After finishing book 4, I really didn't think that it was necessary to continue the story. I felt that everything was wrapped up and thought that the series would end there. I'm still not sure how to feel about the direction that was taken in this book, I think it just left me more confused than anything. And cliff-hangers are not my jam. ;)

Binge reading will happen I saw an ad for book one on FB. I bought it and first couple pages I kind of though eh I don't know about this. But I kept reading and read all 5 books in 2 days. Such an amazing story woven with old myths and some twists. Lots of suspense and action. I feel connected to the group of characters at the center of the tale. I cannot wait for the next book.

3.8 ? 3.9 ? ⭐️ I will always default to 4 stars on these books because of the first person point of view and the /constant/ mention of needing food or sleep. Other issues dropped the rating a hare under 4 however I throughly enjoyed this one better than all of the others and genuinely looking forward to book 6. :))

Incredible! This series is incredible! Madeline and her clan can't seem to catch a break. Now with the old gods interested in her family, I can't wait to see what she does next.
