Among other things, this volume does a good job of showing the characters exploring the novel concept that members of the opposite sex are, in fact, just as human as they are.

This was an okay read. I hoped for more. It seems like this series is loosing its charm... at least for me. I am not sure if I would continue this if not for fact that it’s almost finished.

Misaki, though, is making great strides with Ayumi. Although she’s yet to reciprocate his feelings, it’s a delight to watch the two grow closer. The Review The last volume ended with Riko winning Hottest Guy Contest, and Volume 10 dives into the hot springs trip Kai was hoping for. Only it’s not the intimate getaway he’d been dreaming of. Yes, we get to see our characters in traditional clothing in a charming setting, but in keeping with the pattern of Kai’s romantic plans getting thwarted, this time he’s blindsided by a third and fourth wheel. The circumstances that have Misaki and Ayumi joining their overnight trip are fairly improbable, but this is shojo manga, so oh well. Not surprisingly, Riko’s awkwardness about being alone with Kai interferes with his efforts to grow closer to her, but he manages to get a kiss without getting punched, so that’s progress in a sense. As for the other pair, they’re still not a couple, but Ayumi’s forced to face Misaki’s feelings more directly than she’s ever had to. Then the timeline speeds up, and we zip through three holidays: Christmas, New Year’s, and Valentine’s Day. Most of the focus ends up on Valentine’s Day when Kai, who despairs that it will even occur to Riko to give him chocolate, decides to make Valentine’s chocolates for her instead. A third of Chapter 39 winds up an illustrated recipe for chocolate muffins as Kai and his guy friends head to the kitchen to bake treats. The narrative’s taken pains to point out how manly Riko is, and this arc highlights Kai taking the traditionally girly role. Predictably, Kai’s Valentine’s chocolate arc ends with a comic twist. For Misaki, though, it extends to a get well visit to Ayumi’s house when she falls ill on Valentine’s Day. Unlike the time Kai took Riko home, Ayumi’s conscious for all of Misaki’s attentions, and it is sweet seeing him dote on her. However, the mood shifts to comic when Misaki encounters Ayumi’s parents. The arc reveals quite a bit about Ayumi, and the way it strengthens Misaki’s resolve to pursue her is adorable. Extras include story-thus-far, mini-manga about Fujisawa-sensei and her assistants, afterword, and translation notes. For more manga and book reviews, drop by my blog Keeping It In Canon!

Okay, the beginning was a little hit or miss, but the final chapter was adorable, precious, and everything that I love about this series! First things first, I've come to the realization that the gender issues are never going to stop in this series, so unless it's something totally egregious, like you know, CALLING YOUR GIRLFRIEND A GORILLA BECAUSE SHE'S NOT ROMANCE SAVVY, WHICH IS A DICK THING TO DO, DON'T DO THAT, I'm not going to bring it up. That being said, the scene where Misaki comes on to Okay, the beginning was a little hit or miss, but the final chapter was adorable, precious, and everything that I love about this series! That being said, the scene where Misaki comes on to Shimura was a little uncomfortable, but after I thought about it more it didn't bother me. Yes, it definitely could have been handled better, but the fact of the matter is these are TEENAGERS we're talking about. Teenagers are not known for behaving logically and ethically 24/7, and yes teens should not think Misaki's actions were appropriate, but they also shouldn't think that Shimura's reaction was appropriate, so it kind of cancels itself out in a weird way. I do understand the logic behind both teens' actions; Misaki wants Shimura to be more on guard because people are not always as good as they seem, but Shimura can't see Misaki in a predatory light, therefore can't take the situation seriously enough to get the message. Again, I'm not saying that I'm condoning either teens' actions, but I don't have as much of a problem with it that I normally would. With that out of the way, omg, my babies were SO DAMN CUTE this volume! I loved seeing Kai and Riko talk about their problems and them holding hands when they went to sleep was so damn adorable! As I said before, I love the final chapter and love Shimura and Misaki's budding relationship. On a side note, the three priests are still a joy to watch and seeing Kagura's dad's line of reasoning for them hanging out is fucking awesome. The artwork was fucking stellar as usual and the chocolate looked so damn good, why can't I have any?! In short, this volume was a MUCH NEEDED improvement over the last volume and I'm so, so happy for that! This volume was so damn cute and precious it just about killed me and I love it for that.

I can relate to Riko’s non affectionate personality. If you have grown up in non affectionate family, you know exactly how she feels. I remember being a teenager and in my first relationship, wishing I could just hold his hand or kiss him but it seemed so hard to actually do it. So, don’t feel like you’re not loved when you’re with someone who isn’t as affectionate. Just understand that it will take some time for them to get comfortable! Anyway, this was a nice volume. I’m rooting for Taka and Shimura!

I adored the character development that we got within this volume! We are seeing our main couple growing closer, while also opening their lines of communication better. We are also seeing our secondary couple (featured on the cover) progress in a way for them to potentially be together by the end of the series as well. We got a lot of understanding into the reasons why they aren't currently together within the volume, and it was so well handled in my opinion! So the focus is back on our leads again and they have a fairly adorable hot spring vacation (despite the best efforts of all involved). There’s something to be said for how Kai handles Riko’s incredible anxiety - it’s nicely done. However, Shimura and Taka remain the far more interesting pair at this stage of the series. Shimura basically acknowledges that she’s asexual in this volume? I think? I mean, it’s hard to say where things are going to end up with that storyline, but you can sure as heck So the focus is back on our leads again and they have a fairly adorable hot spring vacation (despite the best efforts of all involved). This might be one of my favorite volumes in this series. Sooooo cute! I love the guys getting together and making chocolates together, doing something that isn't necessarily the norm. I also LOVE seeing Ayumi and Taka's relationship grow. Dare I say...reading about their storyline is much more entertaining than Kai and Riko's....sorry not sorry lol This might be one of my favorite volumes in this series. Sooooo cute! [ ★★★★,3 / 5 ] I wonder how Ayumi mind works. She's a brilliant character. One of a kind. I don't think I've ever encountered a character like her ((i mean it's not everyday you found a girl who make a comparison of "giving yourself to your partner" with "a carp resigned to its fate on a cutting board" shdhlkhjgfsh— it's hillarious LMAO)). It's super refreshing. And I relate to her so so much it's astonishing— Anyways, [dreamy sigh] No thoughts, head empty, just here swooning over Takaya.

If I could give this volume more stars then I would! This story is so cute but Taka definitely was the star this time. I am so excited to see where his love story goes. I hope this series never ends!

Honestly I don't really care for Kai and Riko's relationship. Like it was cute when they were getting together, but now that they're dating it's like does Riko even like him? I am totally invested in Shimura and Misaki's relationship progression tho so I will keep reading for them. Honestly I don't really care for Kai and Riko's relationship.
