I would give 2,5 * I like it, it had a lot of information that's help when dividing the good and bad foods, and some of the recipes are quite appealing, but unfortunately it was repeating all the time and the absence of pictures in each recipe it was a negative point for me, since I'm a visual person.

I'm a little late to the meal prepping game, but I was able to get up to speed with this informative and easy book. Besides recipes there is a great intro that breaks down different diets, as well as shopping and prepping tips. I haven't tried out too many of the recipes yet, and I've only done one solid week of meal prepping, but I really like the layout of this book and the advice it offers. I only wish there were more vegetarian options and a LOT more pictures. Overall though, a great starter guide to meal prepping. Hell a great cookbook!

A cookbook for a modern age. I received this many months ago and have tried several of the recipes, with pleasant results. Many of the recipes are glimpses back to the author’s early years, and some of these have been updated to reflect today’s health concerns. The author includes recipes, tips, a conversion table, and two indexes, however, there are few illustrations. The author formatted supplemental material, shopping lists, and meal plans in an easy to follow style. There are meal plans for A cookbook for a modern age. I received this book from the publisher to preview. What I really liked about this book was that it has several meal prep plans for different goals. For example, meal prep plans for weight loss, clean eating and muscle building. Most if not all the ingredients are easily obtainable. Several of the recipes are slow cooker or one pot. Although I just recently procured this book, I foresee it becoming a well used book in this household.

This is a good cookbook, with good information. I don't like eating the same thing over and over again, so there are some recipes that I wont make because of that but otherwise it has great ideas no matter if you are wanting to eat healthy or trying to save money.

Thumbs Up The recipes provided are fairly simple yet tasty. The ingredients were mostly every day ingredients that we all are familiar with. There was a lot of useful information about food storage and safety. I found recipes that I will go back to.

While this book contains some good advice and information, it's too restrictive for my tastes. It doesn't really leave any room for deviation. I can see where it will be very useful for some folks, but it's not for me.

The recipes seem pretty great, but I wish the author spent more time on cooking with efficiency. Considering that a Sunday night meal prep can last as long as five hours, it would have been helpful to know a lot of time-saving tips.

-i liked the layout of this book, meal prep instructions all together in the front, recipes sorted by type in the rear. -sadly only a handful of pictures in the whole book. -and only a handful of recipes interested me.

I will start off by mentioning that I am a fellow dietitian who enjoys reading Toby's works and was very excited to get my hands on this book. Though a good read, it did not meet all my expectations. A list of my pros and cons are as follows: Pros: -The healthy meal prep tips and principles are smart and practical -The pantry staples and shopping lists included for the three 2 week meal plans are helpful and time saving -Recipes are labelled to indicate dietary preferences that apply (ex dairy-free, I will start off by mentioning that I am a fellow dietitian who enjoys reading Toby's works and was very excited to get my hands on this book. Though a good read, it did not meet all my expectations. A list of my pros and cons are as follows: Pros: -The healthy meal prep tips and principles are smart and practical -The pantry staples and shopping lists included for the three 2 week meal plans are helpful and time saving -Recipes are labelled to indicate dietary preferences that apply (ex dairy-free, gluten-free, vegetarian, paleo, vegan). -The nutrition information, number of servings, and serving size are listed for each recipe -Storage recommendations for the refrigerator and freezer are provided for each recipe, in addition to how to best warm up leftovers -Sunday meal prep step-by-step instructions for the example meal plans make the execution of the weekly recipes fairly easy (~2.5-3 hours start to finish) -9 out of 10 recipes I've tried thus far have been tasty (poached salmon is a new favorite) -Bonuses: there's a full chapter on ready to go snacks and on sauces, dressings, and staples that make great additions to a healthy cookbook Cons: -Out of the 100+ recipes, there are very few photos of the recipes, which is not something to skimp on when crafting a cookbook -The cookbook is pretty lacking in providing vegetarian entrees -The nutrition information does not include the amount of total or added sugars in the recipes -While I appreciate and understand the principles behind the "clean eating" plan, the label "clean eating" has been associated with fad diets and moralizing food. This meal plan could be relabeled to general healthy eating as all three meal plans are based on whole, minimally processed ingredients anyway. -The calorie recommendations provided for each of the meal plans are over generalized, and there does not appear to be a basis for the recommendations. The calorie recommendations in the book are likely geared towards middle aged men and women with little activity. However, a calorie range for men and women looking to maintain weight, lose weight, or gain muscle would be more appropriate. A table in the appendices or reference to the latest USDA dietary guidelines concerning estimated energy needs for men and women based on age and activity levels might also be helpful to include. -It's stated that the three 2-week meal plans provide 5-6 meals and 1 prepared snack, but some of the meal plans fall short and are missing at least one entree. The muscle building meal plan #2 is a prime example as it contains recipes for 2 snacks and for 4 meals (2 breakfast and 2 lunch/dinners), which really isn't enough to cover a week. -Some of the serving sizes are on the low side and may not yield that many servings for your household without the addition of sides. -There are often no pairing suggestions for the entrees that contain just proteins and sauce, resulting in a less than complete meal. For example, a meal in the muscle building meal plan #2 is a slow cooker Tuscan Chicken, which is simply chicken breast that is slow cooked in a canned tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, and spices. I ended up cooking quinoa and making a salad to round out this meal and fill us up! The calories of the meals wouldn’t add up to meet the estimated calorie needs without the addition of sides either. It's also a missed opportunity to go without recommending a pairing with one of the vegetable/whole grain/bean recipes in the cookbook. Overall, this is an easy to read text with useful meal planning and meal prepping tips and healthy recipes that taste great. However, there are shortcomings with the example meal plans not providing a true week's worth of (complete) meals, and the lack of photos and minimal vegetarian entrees may be a deal breaker for some.

Like a lot of busy people, there just don’t seem to be enough hours in the day to cross off everything on my ‘to do list’( I’m sure I’m not alone.)I’m always looking for ways to not succumb to the temptation of GrubHub delivery or a fast meal out just because I ran out of time to make dinner. It’s a struggle week after week to plan meals, shop for meals, and well cook the meals. That’s why I was drawn to The Healthy Meal Prep Cookbook . The goal is to provide a meal plan based on your personal goals such as weight loss, clean eating, or muscle building. The chapters then provide a basic introduction to the plan, a shopping list ,what you should have in your pantry, a meal plan, and what to make on meal prep day. I chose the Clean Eating Meal Plan Number #1 and have made the Slow Cooked White Chicken Chili, Blackberry Lemon Overnight Oats, and the White Chicken Chili and Spinach Quesadillas. Each recipe has nutritional information, a tip, prep and cook time, and none of the ones I’ve made (or looked at for the future )have had hard to find ingredients. You could certainly mix and match meals from the recipe plans, if you’re not particularly looking for a specific meal plan, but rather want to organize your shopping, meal prep, and cooking and wind up with some good meals. The only downside (to a visual person like me), is the lack of pictures. Each chapter highlights one recipe, and that can definitely bother some cooks. Overall, this is a really good book to get organized about planning and cooking meals and having one less unmanageable task to deal with everyday. I received an ARC from Rockridge Press through Callisto Publisher’s Club.

This book is great for meal prep ideas. This recipe sections are broken down into sections -like Breakfast, Grains & Beans, Poultry, etc. I just wish there were more pictures (that's always my issue with cookbooks). Easy to understand recipes and meal plans with a great introduction. There are also helpful charts about how long to keep pre-made meals, if/how to freeze and thaw certain foods, and which ingredients to keep stocked 24/7. I wish there were a few more meal plans in the book, but I feel confident I can make my own now that I’ve been provided with this framework. Toby is a wonderful motivator— I’m not a huge cook (yet) but I’m giving it a try!
