Katie chooses to buy a Quija board after ending her business day. From then on the troubles begin. Who is the mysterious old woman from the charity shop selling her the board? What about her husband Phil and her son Max? What is Jackie's role (her sister)? The book takes you on an eerie rollercoaster ride full of demonic power. Can Phil with the help of Father Stephen stop the havoc the demon causes? This was a freaking creepy book! A small backstory: The story revolves around "Katie" who buys a Ouija board at a charity shop and from the minute she buys it, things start happening when she puts it in the car. The Ouija board contains an ancient demonic spirit that wants to control everyone surrounding Katie including her husband Phil, but most importantly wants to possess her son "Max", so that it will have a body to carry out its evil deeds. Thoughts: This was a new author to me and I was pulled right into the story. Tons of creepy atmosphere along with me turning the pages quickly to see what would happen next! The book slowly builds up with intensity and lots of spooky demonic atmosphere. The book then lowers the boom with ramped up torture and gore the last half of the book! Giving it five "spooky" stars! Warning: This book is not for the faint of heart as the torture and gore are very graphic.

Zozo was freaking creepy. She wasn't even a clown.. just an old lady. Devil Board: A Dark Tale of Occult Horror is just another example of why you shouldn't buy a Ouija board. I've never owned one and I have zero desire to get one either. Not that I believe in spirits and such but I'm not going to test my luck at the same time. Sorry, but no - it's not for me. So when Katie winds up buying one from a charity shop one night I didn't think she was going to die 2.5 seconds later. As for what happened Zozo was freaking creepy. As for what happened next, I didn't really think her sister and husband would have cheated on her.. but then again I wasn't completely shocked either. It did feel weird to find out while her son is currently being possessed but whatever. Back to Zozo though. She was creepy and now I will be suspicious of everyone older than me. Or just anyone in general. I feel like the little cliffhanger ending with the copper coin was pretty interesting but I didn't get vibes that this was going to be a series or anything. Maybe there's another book with Zozo.. or maybe their isn't. I wouldn't be mad if she appeared in another book because the lady was, again, very creepy. In the end, I'm enjoying this trip/adventure through creepy ass books.

Worth the read I enjoyed this novel. Its the first of Glen Frost and I will certainly grab another. I did feel that the relationship between Phil and Jackie was one that shouldn't warrant much care for either, as it was a relationship bred by a lack of any morality. While infidelity isn't uncommon, I do feel their complete lack of regard for Phil's wife made me resent both Phil and Jackie from the very beginning and ultimately prevented me from caring much at all whether they survived or not. ***Not for the faint of heart. What a mad ride. Frost takes you on a twisted and dark journey, starting off with Katie, whose good intentions and poor decisions get the story going. As usual, Glen has managed to take something benign and give me the heebie jeebies... I don't know that I will ever look at a graveside service the same way again. Great read, feeds into a certain "demon's" popularity. I feel quite sure it will also feed into the "legend" depending on who reads it.
