While I LOVED it (I can't believe this is a debut novel) and will for sure be keeping my eye for the next book. I can't say I ENJOYED it. This was a WEE bit over my comfortable line. I can (and do) enjoy sex slave books, but this book deals with child sex slavery and my stomach was in knots the whole time. That said the writing was fantastic. The plot moves along nicely. There are twists and turns. The characters were well developed. My heart broke for Emmalyn and Kodah (as well as for all of the children being held) I want these two to get a happily ever after. I want J.B to get a happily ever after. I want to know more about Buck and Drifter. So while reading this left me with a pit in my stomach that I did not enjoy (and I honestly almost put this aside on a couple occasions) I am glad I kept on because the author did her job. She drew me in. She made me step out of my box. She made my heart ache and she made me intrigued enough to carry on and see where this journey will lead for these characters. So two thumbs up from yours truly.

RAW, GRITTY, DARK, INTENSE, SEXY, HOT, SICK, TWISTED everything all dark gritty lovers need/crave/want/seek this author delivered those feels time and time again!! SET ME FREE: Once upon a time, Emmalyn was a happy child, safe in knowing her father loved her, she was treated like a little princess, then at age ten all of that changed. This story is solely based on Kodah and Emmalyn and spoken in both their POV’S, two broken down souls, held captive by one of the most notorious sex rings. In the ’Prologue’ we’re introduced to a young scared little girl, Emmalyn, nothing in her world makes sense any more, taken from all that she knew and loved and thrown into a world of the unknown, told by her mother and stepfather that life as she knew it ceases to exist from this day onwards. Told that her father did not want her any more which is why she is where she is. Nothing makes sense to me any more. My life has been flipped upside down, the damage irreparable. Made to kneel before scary, intimidating men, one mans glare above all others sends shivers down her spine. This is the kind of man my father always warned me about. The kind that would smile and offer you life with the same hand he will use to take that life right back. With the introduction in the prologue the author has laid out the foundations for a dark, gritty read, so very easy to get into, hard to put down as you read what Emmalyn and Kodah have to live through to ensure their safety. Freedom is only a term they used to know, freedom is all they crave. Informed that she is to share a room with another slave by the name of Kodah. What their jailers didn’t anticipate was the strong bond these two form from day one where he held her in his arms and tried to comfort her as best he could, but as the years creep by this bond that they hide from the guards just gets stronger and stronger. The love Kodah has for Emmalyn is unconventional and unquestionable, He is her best friend, her lover, her protector, and her saviour. I’m going to get us out of here Emmy and when I do, I’m going to keep you. SIX YEARS LATER: Programmed to please, highly trained in all things sexual apart from penetration because that’s saved for her buyer, to submit as soon as she reaches sixteen she will be offered up on a silver platter for auction to the highest bidder. I only have one purpose here, and that is to be the best submissive sex slave money can buy. It’s hard to believe that ‘Set Me Free’ by M. R. Leahy is her debut novel, it’s hard to comprehend that it’s her first rodeo as an author because with this book she just got it so right, just enough light in the darkness to shine through. The story flowed effortlessly, the feels flowed freely, it moved from past to present without a hitch. I personally wouldn’t term this as dark but that’s only because I am a hunter of the dark junky lover so for me it has to be hardcore darkness but it was dark enough for ones just dipping their toes into the dark genre this will be up your alley. I really can’t wait to see what M. R. Leahy has instal for us next. For the life of me once I started reading this I couldn’t put it down, Seconds, minutes, hours my nose was buried in their story, I breathed it, inhaled it, loved it, lived it. midnight rolls around, just one more chapter then I’ll turn the light off and go to sleep, midnight comes and goes so does 10 more chapters, the only reason why I stopped reading was the near miss my iPad inflicted on my face as it crashed beside me hitting my pillow. This book just ticked ALL my boxes, the gritty rawness of it called to me, the stark reality of their lives being held under guard twenty four seven, life and freedom taken away from them, that life they knew ceased to exist but they still craved freedom. The fight to just keep going not to let them destroy every little piece of them. The craving of revenge eating them up as days, months, years go by and they are still held captive by ruthless men. Striving not to form connections because in many cases it can kill you.

Kohah is an older boy who becomes her roommate and friend within their compound, Their only comfort as they grow up is one another and they form a bond that unbreakable in a world where everything is destroyed and broken. Becoming each other light in life of darkness. This is not a romance story, this is a story about survival, resilience, strength and a love that is so pure and powerful it will break your heart. Nothing makes sense to me anymore. My life has been flipped upside down, the damage irreparable. MY THOUGHTS: This is not your typical sex slavery dark romance story, it’s original storyline is what initially had me intrigued but don’t be put off by the child trafficking and sex slavery theme as I was surprised at how well the author tactfully and respectfully wrote about such a sensitive and confronting topic. The sex slavery and abuse was never made into an acceptable behaviour nor was the subject written in a dirty or derogatory tone. Yes, there was abuse and violence and yes it is confronting, but the scenes were not graphically described to cross any lines in my boundaries and I think most readers will feel the same. You are aware in a roundabout way what has happened but it is merely mentioned and not played out in most cases. Yes, Emmalyn was young (She was sixteen throughout the majority of the story) but that is the unfortunate and brutal reality of child sex slavery. In Emmalyn’s case she was thankfully kept a virgin to enhance her dollar worth for when she becomes of age and sold off at auction. Yes, there are disturbing moments that make you feel ill but I feel it was a necessary part of the story for the reader to truly grasp the horror and inhumanity of Kodah and Emmalyn’s life. Again though the scenes were extremely well written and kept in context. Yes, the story is dark, but it is so much more than that. It’s finding light in that dark, finding beauty amongst all the bad brutality. Taking hope from the hopelessness and finding love from the least place you’d expect it. I read this book in one sitting, the suspense was torture waiting to find out how Emmalyn’s and Kodah’s fate will be played out, the ending was unexpected and has me dying to get my hands on the next book in the series to get closure. OVERALL This is not a book for everyone, obviously due to the highly sensitive subject matter but I could not put this down. It dark, raw and disturbing but so epic. It is hard to believe that this is the authors debut novel. The story was perfectly delivered, it flowed flawlessly and was a 5 star read for me. I will be secretly stalking M. R. Well, it happened to me. With. This. Book. SET ME FREE, a STUNNING dark romance debut by talented newcomer M.R. Leahy had my heart in a vice grip, gave me shivery tingles throughout and packed an emotional wallop!!! THE STORY: This is a dark, suspenseful and soul-shattering love story about Emmalyn and Kodah, two young soulmates who have been imprisoned in a “high class” training facility since they were children and are being groomed to be the best submissive sex slaves money can buy. They meet as children when they are roomed together after Emmy's evil mother abducts her from the only home she's ever known and whisks her away to the remote, heavily-guarded compound run by her stepfather, Marx Nixon, the dastardly ringleader of the sex trade establishment. To say he has nefarious plans for the innocent young "princess" is an understatement. Life has beaten Kodah Mason, an angry, hotheaded young man into a bloody pulp. He has been imprisoned since the tender age of 8 and has nothing to live for. Until Emmy. The moment Kodah locks eyes with his new roomie, their souls collide and they forge a powerful, everlasting connection. Although he knows for both their sakes he should keep his distance from the ringleader’s stepdaughter, he can’t help but be powerfully drawn to the scared, trembling, grief-stricken young girl who stirs emotions in him he thought were long eradicated. “She is so tiny, can’t be older than ten. Her long dark curls stick out everywhere, and her face is hidden in the shadows. It feels like hours go by as her stare locks into mine—she looks so broken. That’s when it happens. The empty pit in my chest that has held nothing but hate since I got here surges with helplessness and protectiveness for the girl. Hearing her cry wakes something inside me, something I didn’t know I had. A heart.” From the very first moment he sets eyes on her she arouses his fierce protective instinct and he offers her safety in his tender, soothing embrace. “I know I shouldn’t feel this comfortable in a stranger’s arms, but for some reason, I can’t help it. He looks at me like I hold the light to his darkness, like I’m a treasure." Over next six years he becomes her formidable protector and she in turn gives him a reason for living…to find a way out of this torturous hellhole. But time is running out because Emmy has just turned sixteen and all the years of EXCRUCIATING training are about to come into devastating fruition as plans are made to sell her to the highest bidder. But Kodah will maim, kill, and even lay down his own life before he sees that happen. “I’m going to get us out of here, Emmy, and when I do, I’m going to keep you.” Despite all the pain and suffering and agonizing oppression, together they find light in the darkness and their soul-deep love burns bright as they fight with every fiber of their beings for hope, dignity, freedom, survival--and ESPECIALLY for each other--as they bravely face harrowing odds. Kodah is not only Emmy's closest ally and her ALPHA protector, but he is also her lifeline. Her anchor in the dark turbulent, storm-swept sea that threatens to engulf her. But can they combat the heinous evil that looms overhead? MY MUSINGS: Gah! I was truly BLOWN AWAY by this POWERFUL, PASSIONATE and PALPABLE tale of innocence lost and love found. Set Me Free delves into the dark gritty world of the human sex trade with such chilling impact it has you biting your nails, quivering uncontrollably, choking back tears and feeling ALL THE FEELS!! M.R. Leahy is definitely an author to watch!!! This stellar debut novel is brilliantly crafted with precision and care. Her engrossing, vibrant narrative scintillates, and the alternating point of views and the perfectly timed flashbacks truly resonate--they provide a solid foundation of love and tenderness and trust between Kodah and Emmy and shed a lot of light into their lives and tumultuous personal backstories. Emmy and Kodah are BREATHTAKING together!!!! I was so swept up in their story that I would get giddy butterflies in each and every scene they had together. This tortured duo have enormous rooting value and I love books that feature couples who are a united front against the cruel hardships of the world...and this is that kind of book. It truly underscores the remarkable resilience of the human spirit. They are stronger together than apart and truly cannot exist without one another. The powerful bond that is forged, and the flames of love that ignite, between Kodah and Emmy is beautiful and heartbreaking and so enthralling it gave me GOOSEBUMPS!! Relationships among the trainees are strictly forbidden but the pull between them is impossible to resist. Their eternal love and slow burning lust for each other pulsates off each and every page and you feel the cosmic fusing of their hearts and souls from page one!!!! “Since the beginning, Kodah and I have had a special type of connection that can’t be explained with words. We have always been each other’s safe place.” And Kodah…omfg he OWNS my heart!! He is so strong and virile, PRIMALLY sexy and FIERCELY protective he makes me swoon! But man does he have a badass temper...and you never know when he will detonate! He is filled with seething rage and his violent outbursts and acts of defiance put him at the receiving end of the guards' lash more time than he can count. But, on the flip side, his truelove, Emmy, brings out the best in him. This sweet, pure-hearted, emerald-eyed girl calms the beast inside of him and gives his life purpose. He literally transforms from reckless loose cannon to a gentle besotted lover whenever he is around his precious girl. He just has the SOFTEST, MOST SOOTHING TOUCH and I fell so hard for him I was kinda jealous of the way he cherishes, protects, shelters and adores his beloved Emmy!! Nothing means more to him than staying alive so he can protect his girl. She is his greatest strength but also his Achilles heel. He will fight for her with his very last breath if that’s what it takes. “In the five years I have been here I have seen him beaten, whipped, chained, and taken away to entertain more times than I’d like to count, and each time, it never changed a thing. If anything, it just made him fight harder. And Emmy…my heart just broke for this poor lost young girl who was betrayed by her own mother and torn from her beloved father, brother and uncles to face a life of sexual slavery, torture and utter misery. “Your life back home is gone. Forget about it. Everything you once knew and loved is gone, and the sooner you come to terms with that, the easier it will be for you. This is your new life, girl...the life of a sex slave.” BOTTOM LINE: SET ME FREE is by no means a mushy, flowery romance and it is NOT for the faint of heart. It is dark and brutal and sadistic…and so harrowing it times it will leave you gasping for breath, and fair warning it does end on a CLIFFY! But when you clear away all ugliness and depravity and grit, at its core it is an achingly beautiful, heart wrenching love story that will take your breath away and, in my opinion, is so worth the TORTUROUS ride!!

This book had its claws so deep in me that I was reading at red lights and bathroom breaks while working. This is a story of Kodah and Emmalyn. They are 2 poor souls who were dealt an extremely shitty hand in life. This is their story of strength, love and survival. There are not enough words in the dictionary to describe how fantastic this book is. Because it's THAT great! Honestly and truly I believe it's the best book I've read this year!! The story, the plot, the characters, the writing, each and every single aspect of this book is so well rounded and smoothly blended together that the outcome is just magnificent. This book is dark, it's harsh, it's heart breaking, it's soul crushing but it's real! As your reading it's like watching a motion picture in your mind. You can almost smell the scents surrounding you of what's being described in this book. I still can't believe that this is M. R. Leahy's debut book. This author has such talent in her storytelling that it lingers with you long after you've finished. Be forewarned though once your finished you'll be in one hell of a book funk! I can't wait to see what she has up her sleeve next!

Emmy's hardships broke my heart over and over again. It was incredible how she found a safe haven in Kodah in that retched place. I also enjoyed the certain double agent aspects of the novel; always keeping you on your toes - who's side is someone really on, and so on. The narration was very interesting (in a good way), going back and forth in time from the first year at the training facility to her last. It really added a different level to the story, revealing the past only when necessary and piece by piece. This added to the intrigue of the novel and further demonstrated the growth and character development of Emmy. This also deepened our love for her. As soon as this book goes live, you better start reading!

So begins Emmalyn's training as a sex slave * * * * Warning This is a dark themed BDSM erotic suspense/thriller story. It is disturbing as it includes underage characters and may push comfort zones because of content. It DOES include violence, dub-non con, and includes sex trafficking themes. Those with triggers should proceed with caution. Consider yourself warned. Wow. WOW. W-O-W. I totally didn't expect what I just read. Seriously, those who have hard limits with erotica genre underage main characters NEED to avoid this one. For those with soft limits on underage erotic stories - it's emotional and dark as the author created a (hopefully) fictional world that chronicles the true horrors of illegal sex trafficking for Emmy, and by association, a fellow slave Kodah. The two bond but with the knowledge that it can never and will never be sexual. Two kids who cling to each other to survive. This story was emotionally draining for me. Being a voyeur (reader) to the goings on in this underground illegal "boarding school" really brought home that this sort of thing should NEVER happen in the real world. Kids should be kids who are loved, protected, and treasured. Not this. This is perverted, sick, depraved, and those who are involved in such activity ... well, I have no suitable consequence that wouldn't include dismemberment and/or horrendous levels of pain. Yet. I do commend the author as she exposed and blew the cover off what life could be like for underage kids in a classy not trashy manner. For those who seek out dark romance and have no hard limits (in their fictional reading) I'd highly, and I mean HIGHLY recommend checking this book out. I totally appreciated the (current story time line) teen romance between 16 yo Emmy & 19 yo Kodah. Kodah had originally been brought to the facility when he was 8 so it's just a matter of time before he is transitioned out. He's protected her as best he could but it's clear the adult staff OWN the kids, especially Emmy's step-father who runs the place. The goal is therefore whether the two can find a way to escape or resign themselves to being sold, individually. Kodah has plans but ...... As for the erotica scenes. Heed the warnings on this book. There is no fluffy fairy tale romantic scenes. What there is is BDSM scenes intended to force the kids into the perfect subissive slaves who will then be sold to wealthy patrons at auction... and Emmy's time to be sold is soon approaching. So much more to say about this but ..... As for my personal issues and/or problems with this book. Some degree of confusion as the author jumped from chapter to chapter with alternating POV between Kodah & Emmalyn which included history time and current/present time. In the author's side, it did make sense to feature the story in this manner but I did have to realign myself at times. The other, and most important issue I had was the premise of Emmalyn's abduction itself. A lot of thoughts going through my head on how that was problematic but would be direct spoiler info so I'm not able to comment. Secondary cast of characters. Oh, this is tricky as pretty much each and every secondary character are ass wipes as they are staff at the "boarding school" thus I would rather not acknowledge them by name in any way, shape, or form. Better to let them sink into the hell they all belong in. OK. Especially one... two... but for sure three of the worst. There is a twist (come on, you know there has to be) that redeems an isolated few from the seven circles of Hell I would curse them all to but ... spoilers ... so... damn them all... until they prove to me otherwise. :) Big news flash here. The story doesn't end on a cliffhanger but does end on a plateau with unresolved issues. Luckily Set Us Free (Bound Forever, #2) is already out and so off I go to find out ... the rest of the story.

Fair warning: The concept of Set Me Free is absolutely mortifying. Imagine you’re eight years old for a moment and have been taken from your home, by your estranged mother, and given over to your step-father who runs a child slavery ring. Your whole purpose? To train as a sex slave. To make him look tough. To show he doesn’t have a heart. To prove a point. Doesn’t sound pleasant, does it? Kids held and trained as sex slaves, one by her mother and step-father… What was I thinking? To be honest, Fair warning: The concept of Set Me Free is absolutely mortifying. To be honest, I don’t know. I’m not usually one to dabble in the dark reads; I stick to my light and fluffy or angst ridden stories. But something about M.R. Leahy’s blurb intrigued me. And I can’t tell me how happy I am that I took the plunge down her seriously fucked up rabbit hole. To be fair, not all kids held at this “training facility” are being trained as sex slaves. We’re talking equal opportunity slavery here. And many of the children have been sold into the system by their own parents to cancel out a debt they owe, including Kodah, Emmy’s roommate. A few years older than Emmy, Kodah feels a fierce need to protect her from their very first encounter. He’s determined to taste freedom with Emmy by his side, and will do whatever it takes to achieve it. “I’m going to get us out of here, Emmy, and when I do, I’m going to keep you.” Emmy and Kodah’s story spans years. YEARS. They suffer through unspeakable situations, leaning on one another for support. Lucky for us, the author doesn’t go into too great of detail when it comes to the abuse Emmy and Kodah incur. Thank God! It’s enough just knowing something has happened, we don’t need the specifics to feel their pain. We both have battle scars that will stay with us forever, but if we make it out of this, that’s just what we’ll have…forever. Set Me Free has somewhat of a dystopian feel. These children are being held at a compound with its own rules and social norms. Emmy’s step-father is their king, and they are simply pawns for him to further his empire. Their world is vastly different than the one you and I live in. By the end of the story, M.R. changes the entire mood. We’ve moved from a dystopian-like novel to something altogether different, setting up the next installment for a completely new feel. Yes, there will be a continuation to Emmy and Kodah’s story. We are left hanging, but only off a tiny cliff, one M.R. Leahy has promised not to leave us dangling from for long. This book was a complete surprise, a breath of fresh air, a story you should most definitely pick up immediately. You’ll devour it and be begging for more in no time. If I could give Set Me Free more than 5 stars, I would, and I {almost} never say things like that. Read. This. Book.

It's horrific to think somewhere in the world this is someone's actual life but unfortunately this type of stuff is going on. Set Me Free is the first of the Bound Forever series and although the setting and circumstances are horrible I knew from just the blurb I would also love it. My expectations were not only met but surpassed and I give so much praise to the author for going all out. Every character was great in their own way but I just have to give a huge shoutout to Kodah because he literally stole the show. After living in a nightmare for years and wondering when he would finally be killed, the universe had other plans when Emmy came into his life. Now with something to actually live for and someone to give him strength, Kodah always seemed to find the positive in such an impossible situation. The way he cared for Emmy with such adoration was so incredibly sweet and time only heightened those feelings to cement a bond so strong that nothing could break it. I love how M.R.Leahy gives enough details to not sugarcoat any of the situations but not so much I had to stop reading. The setting is compared to a boarding school, which is actually pretty true, and ironically everyone is taken care of quite well. Throughout the story there are hints given that something huge is going on behind the scenes and the mystery of it all was very intriguing. Key people played their roles so well I was shocked how the ending came to be and sets up perfectly to roll right into the next book. For such a taboo theme Set Me Free was an excellent read and I look forward to finding out what happens next with these characters.

Leahy did a nice job at balancing her dark elements with a solid, intriguing storyline as well. At six years old Emmalyn had everything she knows taken away from her. She was lied to by her horrific mother (more on her later) saying that her loving father decided he didn't want her anymore. Now she is under the roof of the nastiest child sex slave ring leader known to man and being prepped for sale. Again, she's six. Yuck. The only thing that has kept little Emmalyn as sane as she is all of these years is Kodah, her roommate. He is a few years older than her, however she felt a protective, not creepy vibe from him right off the bat. They've become best friends over the years, almost to thier detriment. The staff is clued in on how close they have become and begin to use them against one another. The mission is to get the hell out of that place of course and that is easier said than done. As we span the years with Emmalyn and Kodah, we go through the torture and mind games with them, waiting and hoping to see that light at the end of the tunnel. As the puzzle pieces finally start to fall into place, the story takes a crazy turn and you don't know what in the heck is going to happen next. While the book was well written and kept my interest, there were a few things that bothered me. One was no real information on Emmalyn's mother. Why in the world would she turn on her daughter like that? What did Marx have over her, if anything? It felt like huge hole in the storyline every time the mother was in the picture. Also, the little flashbacks didn't seem necessary and honestly, I started skipping them. I was more interested in where the story was going, not where we'd already been. Finally, the ending. Ugh, I am starting to like standalones more and more. These series books are getting hard to keep track of for a voracious reader such as myself. Reviewed for Renee Entress's Blog

4.5 Stars. I was lucky enough to beta read this book for the author. She set me up that this was a dark read and while it has dark subject matter, I felt the book had so much hope, love and strength that it never felt that dark to me (or maybe I like dark so much that I'm becoming desensitized to it) lol. You'll absolutely fall in love with Kodah ( we should all be so lucky to have one!), you'll love Emmy and a few other characters that find their way into your good graces as well. But as Emmy gets older, the closer she gets to leaving this place behind. The lengths of depravity have no end in this training facility and the evil that runs it knows no bounds. Marx is a true evil soul and just the mention of his name made me cringe and wish a brutal end to him. He owns and runs the facility, along with guards and slaves and his wretched wife. The halls of this place have secrets and I found myself waiting on bated breath to learn them all...which I didn't. This story was pretty intense and dragged me all the way in. I became completely attached to our two characters; I felt their frustration, fear, love, pain and confusion. I wanted to bang my phone when I got to the end because their story is not over, far from it actually. BUT I definitely needed a breather before I start the next one.

You can feel the love that Emmy and Kodah have for each other. From the very first time that they see each other you can feel their bond. Kodah is mad at the world, he has every reason to be but Emmy is his weakness and everyone knows it. The way to keep Kodah in line is to punish Emmy. My heart was broken for all the children in this book. They were kidnapped, traded for debt, their lives as they knew it was over. They either did what they were told or they were disciplined. I'm not talking about a swat on the butt, I'm talking torture. My heart hurt for them. Things aren't always what they seem though. This book has twists and turns, hope and hopelessness. Nail biting moments, places where you'll hold your breath and pray for the best possible outcome. I was crossing my fingers for these two, that they get out of this alive. It was like I was right there with them, pushing them on, giving them words of encouragement. Yelling at them "don't give up!!" The end of this book....*sigh*...All I can say it that I cannot wait for the next book!

This book! I’m in love! Though the suspense was totally killing me! This book is quite dark, dealing with human trafficking, child labor, abuse and torture. The story is told from a dual POV and goes several times back and forth in time which didn’t bother me although I usually get confused with timelines. The writing - albeit the serious themes - is really good and pulled me into the story right from the beginning. I was absolutely captured by the agony and the heartbreak of what Emmy and Kodah had to go through. 'My story is something dark, something unforgiving but I do know that even in the darkest of times, light can be found.' The Story: Emmalyn is barely 10 years old when her mum takes her away from her dad’s and forces her to live in an abusive world of sex and slavery. Her stepdad Marx Nixon is the leader of one of the biggest child slavery rings. He makes the world believe that Emmy is his daughter and she will be trained to be one of the best submissive sex slaves that will be sold to the highest bidder once she turns 16. She is going to be the example for the other slaves and also for the bidders to show Marx's unending power and that he has no weakness. Emmy and her roommate Kodah develop feelings for each other in this world full of cruelty and abuse. They pull strength from each other to keep from falling apart in this dark place but how long can they pull through until they will eventually break? How long can Kodah watch Emmy be abused until he does something that will backfire and get him punished or even killed? 'If a person is willing to torture and sell their own child, imagine what they will do to someone who isn't theirs. It's a form of power at least that's what I'm told. The objective is that once I turn sixteen, I am going to be sold to the highest bidder something I have been training for since the day I arrived.' Thoughts: This is one of just a few books I wish I could read again for the first time although the tension throughout the whole book was driving me crazy. (In a good way =P) I absolutely loved the extraordinary names of Kodah and Emmalyn. They made this story’s experience all the more special and unique because it didn't taint the story with the familiarity of names and comparisons to characters of other stories. While this book contains some serious topics I still found some beauty in it and was caught by surprise that I wasn’t much put off by the fact that the story took place in a child trafficking world. Though this was probably because I was focused on the love that Emmy and Kodah found in such an awful place. It was about how they grew together and helped each other pull through and never gave up despite the ugliness and hopelessness that surrounded them. I was totally captured by the writing and the way I got to experience how despite all the bad and ugly there’s always something good which just had to be found and believed in. I thought I had the perfect life but fate wanted me here, and even though this place is the worst of its kind, I wouldn't trade it for anything because it brought me to Kodah. It's sick and twisted, but it's also raw and true. Despite my expectations the book was not all about sex. Yes it was about sex slaves and there was a lot of abuse but it wasn’t all written in glory details because some things were just mentioned by Emmy or hinted at. This gave me as a reader some kind of distance to the horrible events going on but there were still enough brutal things that happened to Kodah, Emmy and also to the other slaves. Sometimes I just forgot how young those kids still were. 'I compare these events to the ballet recitals I did as a little girl, only instead of pink tutus and calming music, you're naked, and it's the sounds of whips and chains.' It was such a fucked up story but oh so good! I could not believe how the guards and all the people working for Marx extenuated what went down at this place. Forced sex, punishments as well as all the ‘activities’ the slaves had to undergo was nothing else than pure training. Sometimes I just forgot what place they were at because Emmy and Kodah captured me with their bittersweet love story until I was brutally brought down to their reality when Emmy had to endure another torturous meeting or training. The abuse taking place in this book wasn't like I've never read before but the raw, gritty and honest way of the story and its way it was written was exceptionally powerful and stunned me. 'This man is my superman and my kryptonite; he has the power to build me up and tear me down; he has the capability to bring me to my knees but the strength to pull me back up. This man is my everything, and I know that no matter what the future holds, I will carry this love with me until the end.' The ending of this first book was kind of a closure of some parts which made me happy because I was worried that there’d be a huge cliffhanger. Nevertheless, I can’t wait for the next book to come out. “I'm a sex slave...” “Set me free...” (This book is perfect for those of you that don’t like cliffhangers or are worried about starting a series that ends every book in the middle of an important event. This is not the case here IMO even though the story does not end with this book. ) -- I received an ARC of this book from Give Me Books Promotions in exchange for an honest review. --
