Action Comics #972 - 3 out of 5 stars "MEN OF STEEL" - 3.5 out of 5 stars What I liked The beginning of this story arc showed real promise , with signs of Darksied's future involvement , Lex luthor's possible future and bringing in 2 very fantastic characters into the story , meanwhile the whole Lois Lane incorporating herself back into the NEW 52 Lois Lane's world and finally the whole Superman trying to save Lex Luthor and clashing philosophies with the Hunters who are out to execute Luthor Action Comics #972 - 3 out of 5 stars "MEN OF STEEL" - 3.5 out of 5 stars What I liked The beginning of this story arc showed real promise , with signs of Darksied's future involvement , Lex luthor's possible future and bringing in 2 very fantastic characters into the story , meanwhile the whole Lois Lane incorporating herself back into the NEW 52 Lois Lane's world and finally the whole Superman trying to save Lex Luthor and clashing philosophies with the Hunters who are out to execute Luthor . The art itself wasn't that bad , although it wasn't stunning either , It was simply a decent art work that complimented the story fine. What I didn't Like The whole arc simply fell to pieces and delivered one of the most underwhelming conclusion . It did set up a lot of promising future storylines but in the end I didn't end reading this book with a feeling of satisfaction , the feeling was that of disappointment instead . The story was nearly 6 books long and yet it felt like the 2 new characters weren't properly explored and the whole Red sun planet moment didn't seem to slow Superman down at all? what was that all about sure it was cool to look at but it made absolutely no sense that he fought and defeated a super powered hunter with punches and no superpower

I'm glad this arc is over. It wasn't bad, but I think it dragged on for an issue or two. I do like the ending, and I think the next arc/crossover event will be interesting. I'm glad this arc is over. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I've stopped tracking/reviewing individual issues due to time constraints but I had to say something about Action Comics # 972. The 'Men of Steel' storyline has been enjoyable but its ending was perfect. The character of Superman always works best when he's inspiring and that aspect got a bit lost in the New 52. With the reappearance of the pre-Flashpoint Superman in Convergence, that air of inspiration returned, even to some extent with the New 52 version of the character. There was a moment in Action Comics # 972 that perfectly sums up everything that is great and inspiring about Superman. Here's the quote -- "The only thing that's important now is that I be open-minded enough to judge a man based on what he is rather than what I fear him to be." -- Superman. I read and re-read that panel probably half a dozen times last night because it is that powerful. This is what Superman is to me and why I turn to him and his stories for inspiration and hope when I'm feeling dark and down.

There's no denying that this ended in a particularly brilliant way. It isn't like we didn't expect "everything to turn out alright" but the manner by which it all goes down is kind of inspiring. And isn't that what Superman is supposed to be? There's no denying that this ended in a particularly brilliant way.
