How we handle our online security is critical to protecting our personal and professional lives. But guidance for staying safe in the growing, interconnected world has been fragmented and confusing—until now. Hack-Proof Your Life Now! demystifies the topic and introduces you to the New Cybersecurity Rules—clear, sensible, and do-able actions that will quickly improve your security. Authors Sean M. Bailey and Devin Kropp will show you how to measure your Cybersecurity Score and then teach you to improve your safety by acting in three areas: adding more Secrecy to your online life (such as a banking-only email address that hackers won’t likely discover), becoming Omniscient over your financial affairs (so you can block identity theft and instantly spot fraud), and adopting principles of Mindfulness to stay safe every day (such as using their 10-Second EMAIL rule to spot dangerous blackmail spam). Each chapter features a Hack Report story that demonstrates a key security problem many of us face, a New Cybersecurity Rule that reduces or closes that exposure, and a specific Action Step to apply as you build up your defenses and improve your cybersecurity score. An Action Guide in the back provides extra details and helpful resources. In just a few hours, you can learn to hack-proof your life and fight back against hackers, thieves, and spammers.

Some of the safety precautions are written like recipes, in order to guide the reader step-by-step. There is a lot of good advice here. There are no guarantees--it''s just that the steps are precautions that reduce your risk. None of it seems overly paranoid.

Don't Miss Action Step #1. It's Powerful and Easy HACK-PROOF YOUR LIFE NOW! is a well-written, concise manual on basic steps to improve your cybersecurity? It's Powerful and Easy HACK-PROOF YOUR LIFE NOW! is a well-written, concise manual on basic steps to improve your cybersecurity? The book starts off with a reader survey--see how secure you are. Ooops! I scored a 20 (which is bad, very bad.) Well, it turns out that there is much that I need to change to make my information more secure. Fortunately, this book offers practical, easy steps that one can take quickly. Whilst reading through the book, I discovered three types of security tips: 1) Tactics I already knew about and pretty much already do. For example, using more secure passwords. 2) Tactics that I want to investigate further. For example, putting a "credit freeze" at the 3 credit reporting bureaus. 3) Tactics that are OBVIOUSLY great ideas that I need to do right away. The last part of the book is a practical "Action Guide." It contains 18 Action Steps that one can do right now. For example, Action Step #13, "Install Antivirus Software Now." That one was pretty obvious to me, but some of the other steps were not so obvious. Action Step #7, "Add Passcodes to Your Devices." Ooops! That one is pretty obvious. Dumb me. (If you're reading this, please don't steal my Tablet until I finish writing this review and get a passcode set-up.) Of all the ideas and tips in this book, there is one that is obviously a great idea and simple to implement--Why didn't I think of it myself? Here it is: Action Step #1: "Create a Secret Email Address." The point is, do NOT use your usual email address for important financial accounts. Get another one that you use just for those accounts. Great idea! This way, if some bad person manages to hack your regular email address, he won't get your financial information. Isn't this an "obvious" tip? Well, I confess I never thought of it before. So all in all, I found HACK-PROOF YOUR LIFE NOW! to be a solid book, full of very good ideas. This is a well-written, easy to follow book. At the end of the book is a useful Glossary, Resources, as well as Endnotes. Advance Review Copy courtesy of the publisher.

The authors do not overwhelm us with technical terms and we go hand in hand in a series of actions that ensure that you can implement your cybersecurity. Within the content there is a plan to have a safe online experience, indications of how we can protect our home Wi-Fi network, a systematic guide to secure important financial information and to be able to monitor identity theft, for example in social media sites, including the identity of our children. There are many tactics in the book, from the best known to the most specialized, and I also loved an Action Guide with 18 steps to do immediately, a glossary and many resources mentioned throughout the book. It is a good book to start learning and taking action, however we must constantly update, as thieves and hackers are always improving their methods of attack. My gratitude to the Publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to review the book

I've had this book on my shelf for a while now and I avoided reading it because I did not think it would be that beneficial to me. After reading through the book, I can say that I was wrong. This short and easy to read book provides a lot of useful nuggets to help any person be cyber-secure. If I had to summarize the message of this book into one word it would be "Mindfulness". Review copy from NetGalley As a person who works with full time and teaches computers part time I was ready to read this and tell everyone this was another book to blow off. In reality I thought the book was well written and quite good in it's examples. many times are similar to what I use when I teach classes. There was one part of the book that I felt was a little too technical for the average novice that I see as the one reading the book but I think that could be forgiven. Would recommend this if you're in America. It has some good tips. Some of the ideas are applicable outside of the US too, but only a few and I found that I'm already either doing them, or they're not really relevant to my locality. However, it's written accessibly and this should be known by every American person for sure. Would recommend this if you're in America. It has some good tips. I've been an IT profession for most of my life so, most of the advice in this book is very familiar to me. It's no big surprise that any IT professional can say that the vast majority of the people they interact with do not follow most or probably any of the basic digital safety precautions. I would be willing to bet that ninety percent of the people that read this review use the same password for everything and that password is so poorly chosen that they may as well be using 12345 as their passw I've been an IT profession for most of my life so, most of the advice in this book is very familiar to me. It's no big surprise that any IT professional can say that the vast majority of the people they interact with do not follow most or probably any of the basic digital safety precautions. I would be willing to bet that ninety percent of the people that read this review use the same password for everything and that password is so poorly chosen that they may as well be using 12345 as their password. Even with over Twenty-five years in IT, There several tips in here that I found very useful and started implementing as soon as I finished the book. The book is broken up into sections. If you're more advanced in your security then you can easily skip chapters that you already have buttoned up. The case studies are eye-opening and help you understand how innocently and quickly things can go so very bad for you, that you'll spend years trying to clean up your credit or recover from a major financial hit. If you read one part of this book, then it has to be about identity theft. Identity theft is the hottest cybercrime today. The internet is the criminals best friend. We are literally giving them all the information they need to not only get at our personal data but to simply assume our identities. If you're a parent or grandparent of young children, you need this book. It provides the answers you need to make sure that your children's future isn't stolen from them. If you think it can't happen to you then you need this book. That attitude is why people are losing their money, credit, and identities every minute of the day. Criminals love that attitude because it almost guarantees that your digital and life security are non-existent. If you can answer yes to one of these questions then you need this book and if you can answer yes to more than one, you need it now. Do you use one password for all your accounts? Do you use the same password for your bank and credit card sites that you use for shopping or other online sites? Is your credit locked down with the three reporting agencies? Do you use dual authentication for your email and others sites and services that provide that service? Do you even know what dual authentication is? Do you know how criminals are stealing credit cards so easily? Do you know your financial responsibility if your accounts are hacked or credit cards stolen? Do you know the financial responsibility between a debit card and a credit card? These are a just a few of the things that this book discusses and shows you how to protect yourself so you never have to be a victim. The last part of the book is the most valuable because it gives you clear concise steps to Hack Proof Your Life Now!
