Spencer Cohen is the guy who gets answers to relationship questions. Playing the role of the new lover, his job is to make his client’s ex realise one of two things: he doesn’t want to break up or he really does. Either way, his client gets answers. The ex would either apologize and beg, or turn and walk. But in the end, Spencer’s client won. If he wanted his ex back and go Spencer Cohen is the guy who gets answers to relationship questions. Playing the role of the new lover, his job is to make his client’s ex realise one of two things: he doesn’t want to break up or he really does. Either way, his client gets answers. The ex would either apologize and beg, or turn and walk. But in the end, Spencer’s client won. If he wanted his ex back and got him, it was great. If the guy walked away, then as hard it was for the client, he knew it was over. Regardless of the outcome, Spencer’s work was done. Andrew Landon’s ex left him without so much as an explanation. But his sister can’t stand to see him miserable, so, much to Andrew’s dismay, they hire Spencer to be Andrew’s new boyfriend to get the ex back. For Spencer, it is never personal. Merely a business transaction. No emotions, no strings, no complications. Yeah right. Even a blind man could see how this would end.

Pure SWEETNESS. Spencer is an Aussie in L.A. (not to be confused with an Englishman in New York). He lives above a tattoo shop, totes makeup gear for his best friend who drives a Cindy Crawford (a cute 80s model), and helps men get their lovers back. Spencer is the hip version of a Love Detective, complete with a beard and sleeves. Let's take a moment to appreciate the finer things in life. Spencer enjoys vinyl records and Moroccan breakfasts. He doesn't do feelings or complications. Then he meets Pure SWEETNESS. Spencer is an Aussie in L.A. (not to be confused with an Englishman in New York). Andrew wants Eli back, and it's Spencer's job to help him, but the more time Spencer spends with Andrew, the more he wants Andrew for himself. There is no sex in this book, but there is ANTICIPATION. When the book ends, Spencer and Andrew have known each other but a week. There is the PROMISE of a HEA (and you just know N.R. Walker will deliver!), but the future is wide open. I loved the dance here, the way the men interact, the quiet moments they spend watching animated films and having takeout (because Andrew doesn't cook). The tenderness, the lingering glances, the scene in the closet when they both take off their shirts ... It's all good. LOVELY story; can't wait for book 2!

4 Stars!! I love, love this author! She never disappoints me! She always delivers sweet, enjoyable tales about relatable men that I want to befriend immediately. This first installment in ‘The Spencer Cohen Series’ was everything I expected and wanted to be – pure and simple awesome and adorable from start to finish. The story fallows Spencer who moved from Australia to L.A. years ago. He enjoys his life in the city not only because he fits, but also because he has a bunch of awesome friends. His 4 Stars!! The story fallows Spencer who moved from Australia to L.A. years ago. He enjoys his life in the city not only because he fits, but also because he has a bunch of awesome friends. His job in unusual to say the least – he is a boyfriend for hire, helping different men and women get their lovers back. He meets Andrew when Andrew’s sister ‘hires’ him to help her brother win back his fiance, Eli. Spencer never expected to be so drawn to one of his clients. It never happened, but it seems he finally found his perfect match since he seems to have so many things in common with Eli. Eli is a cartoonist, plays piano and he’s the shy, quite, serious kind of guy. As they start to spend some really great time together to know each other, because after all Spencer has to know some things about Andrew and his relationship with the man he wants to win back, both of them realize they are pretty great together. What starts as a tentative friendship becomes much more for Spencer. He realizes that he can’t be professional when it comes to Andrew, his attraction he has towards him growing with each and every day. This first installment was sweet and cute like a button and really left me wanting more. I think this one was my first m/m read with the pretend boyfriend trope and while I can’t say it’s my favorite trope, I think N.R. Walker handled everything really well. The story is told entirely from Spencer’s POV, which I enjoyed. I can’t say I missed Andrew’s POV, so I was happy only with one single POV. The plot it was simple, yet well done and the storyline fun and entertaining. Both Spencer and Andrew were well portrayed. I really felt I knew these guys. They were endearing from the beginning, relatable and I had so much fun reading their story. I swear I had a smile or a goofy grin on my face the entire time reading this one. Spencer’s voice was sweet and honest and at some point into the story I really sympathize with him and Andrew…aww…so sweet. I enjoyed how different they are from each other, but how at the same time so similar. I loved the bond between these two. They interacted with each other in such an easily way. Their banter was entertaining and the sweet and tender moments between them simply heartwarming. The steam factor is low here, actually non-existent, but I didn’t care about at all about this aspect. This author held my attention the entire time and left me anxiously waiting for the next installment even if this one ended on a good note. Overall, a sweet, great read!

***4.5 Stars*** I can't believe this is the first book I've read by this Author!! Spencer needs to get to know Andrew better and have a fake relationship with him in order to make the ex jealous. But,along the way he finds himself falling for Andrew...... These two men were just perfect together and along with great secondary characters I cannot say enough about how much I enjoyed it and not too long until the next book is out. Highly recommended.....

I totally fell in sweet gushiness with this book. 5+ Stars for me. N.R. Walker has done it again. She has made me fall for another pair of her characters. After reading the blurb I was totally sold. I couldn't wait for this one to come out. Spencer Cohen has a very interesting job. He is literally a boyfriend for hire and is hired by broken hearted souls who have been dumped and want to use Spencer's services of being a fake boyfriend to try and win their ex's back. This is how he meets the sweet and shy Andrew. Spencer is approached by Andrew's sister in hopes he would help her brother win back his fiancé Eli. Spencer is up for it but Andrew is a bit hesitant but eventually agrees. What neither of them expected was to have so much in common and the more time they spend together the professional relationship kind of falls to the side while a close friendship develops. Spencer tried to keep it professional but the more he was around Andrew and the more layers Andrew shed the more Spencer couldn't deny his attraction he was having towards the shy nerdy Andrew. And what a surprise Andrew was. I loved his job, his sense of humor, how shy he got and yet would say some pretty bold things when you least expected it. I just loved them both. The operation of trying to win Eli back wasn't the main focus but when it was brought up Andrew never seemed too interested in it and the more Andrew described the relationship he had with Eli the more shady it seemed. But even though the little that is revealed about Eli and even though he seems shady, there's no real evidence that Spencer can find that points to this guy being a bad guy. Which I found frustrating. Because something just felt off about the man. Another thing that surprised me about this book was even though there was little to no sexy times in this book, it didn't bother me. I didn't even really look for it. I was so enthralled with the relationship that was developing and enjoying the banter between the two MC's that I didn't even miss it. I'm sure there will be some sexy times in the future books, but just know this book didn't need it. Walker is really good about making you fall for her characters and it was no different for me with these two. I highly recommend this book and I CAN NOT wait to read the next one.

***4.5 Stars*** "And then there was you." Another fantastic book from N.R. Walker with endearing and richly developed characters and an engaging story that sucks you in from the first page. If there's one thing that I love about Walker's books, it's that her characters are some of the most realistic, relatable and lovable guys. You can swoon and love them in their world of fiction, but you could also easily see yourself hanging out with them in your real world. Based on the blurb, you get what the book is about. Spencer is hired by Andrew's sister to pose as his "boyfriend" in order to make Andrew's ex-boyfriend, Eli, jealous. If it works...boom, Andrew and Eli get back together. And if not, Andrew can move on with his life and move on from Eli. But what Spencer wasn't expecting was to meet someone like Andrew. Andrew is a cartoonist, a pianist, a lover of music and art and an all around sweet, shy and charming guy hiding a chiseled body underneath argyle sweaters. Andrew looks like a boring and stuffy nerd, but Spencer has learned in his line of work to look at the details, look for clues as to who someone really is...and he finds that he likes everything about Andrew. The two form a friendship while working on their plan. They bond over their love of music and art. The conversation is easy, the flirting is fun and their time together always leaves Spencer feeling lighter. But Spencer has a job to do, and his quickly escalating feelings for Andrew are getting in the way...they're clouding his judgment and slithering past his protective shell. Could this be a recipe for disaster or the beginning of something with amazing potential? Andrew and Spencer, like most of Walker's characters, stole my heart. They were well developed, three dimensional and full of heart. I loved the pacing of the story and how wonderfully she starts unraveling the tale and building the momentum. The book was impossible for me to put down. But what I really loved was even though Eli was the reason Spencer and Andrew meet, the entire plot wasn't focused on grand schemes centering on him. We get to see two men getting to know each other and forming a connection. Little by little you saw each man slowly start to realize that maybe there was something more there...and because of that, the sexual tension was wonderful! This is book one of a three part series, but don't be alarmed...no scary cliffhanger here...just a nice HFN filled with the possibility of so many wonderful things. You'll finish this book with a smile on your face and a contented sigh. ***ARC courtesy of author, in exchange for an honest review***

This is my second NR Walker's book and for the life of me I don't know why I'm not awe by it. I still have the similar problem that I have while reading Cronin's Key. The plot simply does not engage me and I feel that both the male leads spend too much time talking about mundane stuff and at least from one side there is an element of insta-love. Spencer is a professional fake boyfriend that help individual to win back their ex. Andrew was introduced to him as a new client to win back his fiance, Eli. From their first meeting, Spencer was enamored by the preppy Andrew, who is a graphic artist and pianist with a low self-esteemed. He can't believe someone willingly give up this amazing man. Almost 50% of the book took place in just two days filled with them getting to know each other and friendly banter. At this point, I'm losing my patient with the pacing of the story. I don't really see Spencer actually doing his job of helping Andrew to get back Eli. Instead Spencer spend more time falling in love with Andrew and try to keep him for himself, while feeling torn about his role. The thing I can appreciate in this book is the sweetness and drama free plot. Both the characters are such a dear and they were so good for each other. I wish there is more steam between them. I want them to make out so bad! There is some hint on Spencer's past, but I'm not sure whether will it get explore more. Honestly, I had no idea what the next two book will entail. So far, I don't see any big suspense or big secret awaiting to uncover. I shall wait for the blurb to be release to find out what next for these two cuties. I can't wait to read the dirty stuff.

He’s funny and sweet and kind and generous. I don’t really have warm fuzzies towards Andrew at this point. This book definitely needed his POV as well. Especially since he’s the one with the ex. Hopefully my doubting him goes away in the next book.

Spencer Cohen is an enigma. An Aussie who's been in the City of Angels for 2 years, he's got full sleeve tattoos, wears three-quarter length pants and suspenders, and has a career that I'll bet you've never heard of. Spencer's best friend, Lola, introduces him to a new friend, Sarah. And Sarah wants her brother to hire Spencer. Andrew is heart broken by the recent walking out of his fiancée, but isn't too sold on the "idea" of what Spencer does for a living. He grudgingly goes along with things at the pressuring of his sister, though. In the short time that Spencer is under contract with Andrew, we get to know Andrew really well. He has a low sense of self-worth. He's an introvert, and he stays in his own little shell. This could be partly how he is and partly his bruised heart from his love leaving him. The beauty of Walker's writing is how effortlessly she quickly develops the rapport and banter between Spencer and Andrew. The instant connection and chemistry. And watching Andrew blossom out of his shell is an amazing thing to see unfold! Spencer can't for the life of him understand what Andrew saw in his fiancée. And neither can we, the readers. He's not a BAD guy. But he's not good enough for our Andrew either. Spencer remains an enigma throughout this book. We only barely begin to scratch the surface of learning what makes him tick and learning about his roots. I cannot wait for Book 2. But, don't worry. This book is not left on a cliffhanger. Just a HFN with the promise of so much more, much like Red Dirt style from Book 1. For those like me, I want to note that there is very little steam in this book, and no sex at all. But I assure you, it won't disappoint. The chemistry is very high, and every touch is magnified. It should be noted that there is an abundance of music references in this story, which made me INCREDIBLY happy! "The perfect song? How do you define the perfect song?" I found myself smiling at [Andrew]. "Don't overthink it, that's how. Discard all the technical crap, the parameters, the chords, whatever. Go by the feel. How it feels in here." I pressed my hand against my breastbone. "That song will stop me wherever I am." This book was not long, per se, but it wasn't a short novella either. But it simply flew! I felt like I read it in the course of an hour. A start to another winning series for Walker, for sure. When we get into Book 2, and the intricacies of Spencer are revealed, and Eli the ex is sure to pop back up - AGAIN, I know we'll be in for a wild ride! I have put off reading this because I don't like the whole "help guy get back ex while secretly in love with him" troupe. I guess I'm weird like that. But I really, really enjoyed this one. He's living above a tattooshop, which is also were he spends a lot of his time, because he is good friends with the artist and his wife. Spencer is excited about his new job...seems like Andrew is a nice guy and he has all kinds of ideas to win the ex in question back for Andrew. The only problem is....he didn't count on developing feelings for Andrew himself...which puts him in a shitty position... I really enjoyed watching these two dance around each other. Both were awesome mc's and the side characters were great as well :) Warning though...there is not one sexual encounter in the whole book....shocking right ?? What's even more shocking is, that I didn't mind one bit !! The sexual tension was delicious...also I figure they are saving themselves to go all out in book 2 ;) Really looking forward to starting the next one and see what's gonna happen next. Andrew has recently been dumped by his significant other with no explanation as to why thus Spencer is hired to "help" his boyfriend realize the error of his decision. What they didn't foresee is how perfect they would be for each other. "You know why I do what I do?" I asked, looking at her. My words were thick with tears. "Emotional detachment. Distance and separation." ~Spencer My highlights: ·Spencer, the complexity of his character is evident throughout and we are only given glimpses of why he does what he does but are never given answers. What we are shown are his kind personality and a tender heart that is still broken. · Andrew, is shy and doesn't know his worth but as him and Spencer get to know each other we saw a funny and talented man. ·And then Spencer and Andrew together- just magical. They were fun and adorable. ·Just as with every NR book the flow of the story is effortless. This novella is paced perfectly. ·The secondary characters were great. They added to the story without overtaking it. ·The ex-boyfriend was always there but never became the focal point. That plot line wasn't drawn out nor made over the top. ·The sexual tension. Although there's no nookie, the tension between Spencer and Andrew was palpable and makes me all the more eager for the next installment. The end is a tentative HFN but, at least, the wait for the second part of their journey won't be too long. This author has once again taken me on an emotional journey, and I CAN. Spencer avoids attachments by renting out as a boyfriend to help people get their exes back. Andrew's sister sets it up, and Andrew hires him. Through the "getting to know you meetings," Spencer is being drawn to Andrew. They get along, both are snarky, quirky, have common interests like music, can talk, have fun, and just be in each others company and are happy. As the feelings are growing, the job still needs to be done, and there he is - the ex, Eli. Fabulous characters all around, a very gripping story, and high anticipation keep us absorbed in this delightful tale. Highly recommended, ENJOY !!! ============================ It can stand alone, but it's a series, and I want to know what happens next. :) =============================

5 pretend boyfriend stars! Words cannot describe how fantastic this book/series is!! Spencer Cohen has a fabulous life, after moving from Australia to L.A., he has amazing friends as well. His job is a little less than normal, he’s hired to pretend to be the boyfriend of men or women, looking to win an ex back. Strange… I know but it totally works. He’s hired by the sister of Andrew, looking to win back his ex Eli. Spencer has never had a problem with his job before or “falling” for his customers 5 pretend boyfriend stars! But the minute he meets Andrew, he knows there’s something there. Has Spencer finally found the one?? The more time that Andrew and Spencer spend together, the more their attraction grows, but Spencer isn’t sure if Andrew is really into him, or if he’s playing it up for Eli’s benefit. And let me tell you that ending will leave you thirsty for more!!!

5 + stars. I absolutely loved this book and cannot wait to read book 2 next month. N. R. Walker is one of my favorite M/M authors, and this book is a perfect example why. Yes, there was no sex, but it was super sweet with adorable characters. I was cheering for Andrew and Spencer all the way. Even the side characters were awesome. Highly recommend it!!!

One of six free books available right now (Jan 2020) on Prolific Works - https://claims.prolificworks.com/gg/T... I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this 3-book series about a professional fake-boyfriend, and the guy he ends up becoming a real boyfriend for. Spencer's character really worked for me - I could believe that the rejection in his past life had made him wary and cynical, but still more vulnerable than hard, and I liked his slow opening up to something more. Spencer's character really worked for me - I could believe that the rejection in his past life had made him wary and cynical, but still more vulnerable than hard, and I liked his slow opening up to something more. I appreciated that the drama in these books was low-key, and although there are bad guys in here, there were no hugely melodramatic events or confrontations. I'm a big fan of relationship building, of the simple moments between people, and this book series gave me those. I also liked that Spencer wasn't isolated and neither was Andrew. They both had people they could count on, and that made the romance more real because it wasn't just a case of finally finding someone supportive in an emotional desert. I enjoyed the secondary characters as individuals too. I do think you need to read the whole series of 3 books, to finish with that happy sigh and a complete arc. (Not necessarily the 4th. I had actually read it first, and reread now, but despite a glimpse of these guys here and there, it stands alone with other characters and doesn't add much to Spencer and Andrew's story. I found the first 3 books a stronger story.) This is sweet and slow, and lacking in huge emotional moments or exciting plot, and yet worked in a wholly satisfying way for me.

Been super excited for this one. So glad to see it's getting good reviews (but it's NR Walker and she's brilliant so it's no surprise). Can't wait for all three to be out -- I no longer read books w/ the same MCs in a large story arc until all the books are out. *impatiently awaits and reads ALL the reviews* Been super excited for this one. Re-read March 2021 While I still really liked it, I think I'm going with 4 stars this time. I thought it dragged just a bit. Spencer is sweet, tattooed, bearded, and he brings couples back together for a living. He gets hired by Andrew, who wants to get back together with Eli, his ex-boyfriend. It’s Spencer’s job to get to know Andrew so he has enough ammo to make Eli jealous. But when the two spend more and more time together, it becomes clear Andrew is not just a job... I really loved this. This is an excellent start to what could be an amazing series. This story has such a nice slow burn, I loved it. I liked how these two got to know each other slowly before anything happens. I really felt the connection, the looks, the sighs, everything. It was wonderful. If you’re looking for a low angst, sweet book with a nice slow burn (no sex yet), look no further.

Dnf at 16% I'm still trying to understand why I would need to know things like this: "He blinked and delicately put his fork on his empty plate, perfectly centred, twelve to six o’clock, whereas mine was thrown on at about ten to four." Is it supposed to give me some kind of profound insight into their personalities? Third try with this author, third DNF. She's clearly not for me. He kissed the top of my head. “And then there was you.” Spencer Cohen is a legal alien in LA. He came from Australia with a baggage that his only closest friends know. Acted like a cheerful trendy guy, has a business as a pretend boyfriend. Yep, that’s his job. Enter Andrew, a guy who’s just need to know why his fiancée suddenly walked away from him without any explanation, he wanted to win him back and hire Spencer. "Andrew studied me for a minute, like I confused him. “Do you have someone… a boyfriend?” I shook my head. “Nope. No time really. I’m too busy going on pretend dates with hot guys like you.”" Like the blurb says, yeah right, even a blind man knows where it will end. Cliché? Definitely. Oh but wait ! It’s NR Walker. She can turn my world upside down with her cliché anytime. Make it a good story, comfort read, with a little tears (actually, I cried a bit more as my usual near the end of the book). The chemistry between Andrew and Spencer was right there right from the start. They can fill each other, mingled with harmony. And no one believed that they’re not together. No one. "“And you said you weren’t cool? Or interesting? Jesus, Andrew. If there was a magazine called Sexy and Cool Cartoonographers Who Play Jazz Funk Piano and Watch Stanley Kubrick Films, you’d be on the cover. Of every issue.”" "“What if Eli had asked you about my car? You’d have failed.”“I would have told him I was too busy letting you fuck me in the backseat to notice what kind of car it was.” Oh how I loved the way they’re together ! It’s like, Spencer was a God send from heaven for Andrew. Am I overreacted? Well, read the book, and tell me that. And did Andrew get what he wants and get his fiancee’s back? I'll let you know after you reading it. Fair enough? Ha-ha. (view spoiler)[ “Yeah, I told him there was this Australian guy who knew more about me in two days than he did in eight months.” “He gets me, like no one else has.” I nodded. “I know.” “And I was hoping he’d like to maybe get to know me a little better,” he whispered. I leaned into his hand and closed my eyes. “He does.” (hide spoiler)] Then he pressed his lips to mine. He held my face, so gently, and I put my hands around his waist. It was a sweet kiss, a kiss with promise. An everything kind of kiss. I was afraid that this series leave me with cliffhanger, but, once again, this is N.R. Walker, she won’t let me hanging if she doesn’t want me to fly to Australia and demand her to send me book 2 and 3 yesterday ! And Aussie is close to Jakarta. She wouldn’t dare. *nods* This book is definitely a re-reading material, a comfort food for my soul, and I’m kinda obsessed with Spencer and love him like I love Travis in RDH. Sigh. Highly recommended ! Review made for Reading Addict Mom's Blog and Lelyana's Book Blog.

Loved this so much. I'm shipping Spencer and Andrew. This is me gushing over this story. I loved this so much. It was the perfect romance story with a cliffhanger. It just felt right to me. I literally was sputtering afterwards(Thank you T.J. Klune for creating Gus). I just wanted more of it. Like 400 pages of Spencer and Andrew. They were so adorable, and my first mindset was to be a little peeved that it wasn't any sexy time in the story, but I had to remember the words of the resident Ginger st Loved this so much. They were so adorable, and my first mindset was to be a little peeved that it wasn't any sexy time in the story, but I had to remember the words of the resident Ginger stating the difference between Romance & Erotica to me. After reading it you realize that the physical really didn't matter, because mentally & emotionally they were falling for each other little by little. I don't want people to get deterred because there isn't any sex in the book, because the writing, and them coming together was all I needed. N.R. Walker, you totally spoiled "How To Train A Dragon 2" for me. I didn't see it, and that part where Spencer cries did me in. I was crying as well. You rocked this book, and cover. I wish I could give you all the stars because I really loved these characters. The supporting cast was great, Andrew was a good guy. The stand out star with the beard, and the man capris, and the amazing Aussie accent was downright great. Spencer comes on the screen and everything gets brighter. He had the best aura about himself. Super down to earth, and his music choices rock. I loved the difference in each guy, but I really liked how their similarities seemed to bring each guy out further then what they let out. Seeing them bond together kept the biggest smile on my face. I loved the concept of the story. It's definitely like Hitch the movie, and book two needs to hurry up we need to find out if Spencer forgot he had another appointment. Initially I don't know what I felt for Andrew, but he grew on me. He took himself way to serious for me, but after a while you can see where his personality shines through. I think he kinda hid himself in his past relationship or maybe in life. He comes off uppity, anti-social, and quiet. When he is around Spencer though, he opens up and it's really beautiful the way their relationship develops throughout the story. Spencer basically hides his past, but sooner or later it catches up with him, and him not wanting to fall in love just didn't work out how he wanted. I read this book in one sitting, and just smiled and thought about them for the rest of the night. I am impatiently waiting book 2. Please give it to me. Such a good story, and great writing. I love the entire plot of this book then add in excellent characters, perfect supporting characters and a great setting - perfection!! Our two MC are Spencer and Andrew. Spencer, he is the perfect representation of lumber-sexual with a side of trendy. As Andrew tells him, he is straight from the pages of Trendy L.A. whereas Andrew he is more of the smart preppy looking guy who fits on the cover of Sexy Nerd and these two are simply perfect together. However, Andrew has come to Spencer to retain his services in getting his fiancé, Eli, back. Immediately Spencer feels drawn to Andrew, he is the perfect guy for him. He is doing things with Andrew he has never done with any other clients such as taking him to his house - which Andrew fits in perfectly! He is drawn to Andrew. He wants Andrew. He has a job to do however and he really tries to fight his feelings, he tries to keep it professional with a goal of getting Andrew what he wants. But does Andrew still want Eli or has Andrew set his sites on Spencer? During a planned night out where Andrew and Spencer were to just "happen" to run into Eli, Spencer and Andrew share their first kiss...oh what a kiss it is. It's at that moment, when Andrew kisses Spencer back and the kiss seems to be more real than for show...that Eli wants to talk. *sigh* What's a defeated Spencer to do? Get drunk, that's what and go to his friends hoping to somehow get over Andrew. Midway through his drunk and after he has broken down guess who shows up....Andrew!!!! Is it to say goodbye or is it to say Hello as something more than a client? N.R. Walker will leave you begging for more of this series which has started out with a bang! I simply cannot wait for books 2&3 -- excellent book!!! *ARC provided by author in exchange for an honest review. Reviewed by Jaime from Alpha Book Club and Gay Book Reviews
