Eren, you idiot! It is not your fault! I really have my doubts about the whole truth of Eren's father "sin". I think there is more to it. There is no steady pace with this manga, every time I finish reading a volume I have the same WTF IS GOING ON!! reaction. It's nice to be getting some answers, but I need more! Eren, you idiot! And deeper into the abyss we go. I'm really intrigued by all that I don't know. I feel like this is building up to a really big reveal of some sort. We've already found out a whole lot but it all feels like small stuff compared to what we will eventually find out. Welp, only one way to find out so I'm on to the next one, Volume 17 :) And deeper into the abyss we go. I'm really intrigued by all that I don't know. This volume is so good!! We're finally getting some answers and the story is starting to make a lot more sense. I'm still waiting for the story to get back around to Annie's storyline though... It's been quite some time since that cliffhanger with her. My heart hurts for Historia. I get where she's coming from with her viewpoint because the world feels like it's constantly against her, but I hope she can see a better future for herself by the end of the series. 💔 This volume is so good!! Hooooooly shit, that was good! Finally some answers, and I'm definitely not disappointed in the direction this series is heading. I only can't believe that after I read next 4 chapters, I'll have to wait for the rest to come out. Hooooooly shit, that was good! Story Wow. Finally some things are revealed. I picked up the manga largely because I couldn't stand not knowing the answers to a bunch of questions. Here we are now 16 volumes later, and finally some (and I do stress some) answers are given. I really can't wait to read the next volume. In fact it's taken a lot of willpower not to jump into the next 3 chapters while waiting for the 4th to be released so I can do them all together and review what will become volume 17. Very interesting conclusion. The one thing I love most about this series is the unavoidable insecurity of people's decisions. One choice or another always ends up throwing a huge amount of chaos into everyone's lives, and the tension is quite excellent. Too funny what happened to Rod. :) Very interesting conclusion. To describe this volume : dramatic! And I love drama in stories. I liked how Eren broke down and lost his will to fight. After learning so much terrible truth about his father and himself, it is only natural for him to blame himself and want to die. I am not lying, I enjoyed his father-drama. Muhahaha! However the secrets that have been revealed didn't slow down my hunger for more answers. Still there are some parts that don't make sense. Hope to find clever explanations in the next volumes. It's also one of the highly acclaimed anime series ever so if you don't even know about Attack on Titan at this point... you are missing out. I'm updated with the manga since it's still ongoing but it is going to be ending very soon. I do think you should watch the series first before reading the manga :) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!! I'm updated with the manga since it's still ongoing but it is going to be ending very soon. I do think you should watch the series first before reading the manga :) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!! Especially if you are into fantasy with high paced action sequences, surprising twists, and mystery. plot→ It's basically set in this world wherein the last of the human race are forced to live behind this circular walled city called Paradis because titans who devour humans suddenly started appearing on Earth. The story begins when, after 300 years I think... or is it 30??, a titan suddenly breaks into the walled city. The story revolves around Eren (and friends) who has always dreamed of being part of the Survey Corps as they were previously regarded as the heroes of the city. However, they have since been looked down on by the residents because their expeditions outside the walls in the past years have always resulted in mass slaughter. There are 3 branches in the city's military body: the Survey Corps, the Garrison, and the Military Police Brigade. Survey Corps go outside the wall to scout areas for expansion and most of the skilled ODM (this is the gear that they use to kill the titans) users are in this branch since they fight the titans most frequently. Garrison patrol the walls of the city and are in charge of protecting the walls from titan invasions. Military Police Brigade stay in the innermost city to protect the royal family and whoever else is rich and powerful enough to live there. There is also a side branch that takes care of the new recruits and trains them before they are placed in the actual military body. I didn't know this had a military thing going on and to be honest it's one of favourite sub themes in fantasy so that was a pleasant for me. One of the interesting sociopolitical points in this series is that the city itself is subdivided into 3 walls: Wall Maria, Wall Rose, and Wall Sina. The poorest in the city are forced to live on the outermost wall since they are the ones that titans would most likely get to first in case the city is breached. The richest are in Wall Sina like the royal family. This raised a lot of points to think about especially when the wall gets breached and they need to move towards the inner parts of the city. I'm not going to go too much else in depth because it is partly a mystery series but one of the main things that made this series standout to me is the looming idea that they don't really know who the enemy is. Honestly, this series raises a lot of political issues and discussions that I like to talk about with other people who have also read/watched it. Another aspect that I like here, is what is really considered good or bad, if there even is such a thing in a person's motives. You'll see this more on the later sides of the series because the first part is more on action scenes and build up since it's meant to pull you into the world. But the later arcs just add up to it and make it seriously one of the most phenomenal stories I have come across. If you haven't realized: I love this series TO DEATHHH. I consider this a must watch and must read for basically everyone who just wants a good story with characters that you won't get tired of. The manga art does get better throughout the series. I also just want you guys to meet my man Levi basically hehe <3 I'm kidding but seriously... this series has one of the best plots and storytellings especially it's lore side. I was gasping at every plot twist and this is coming from a person who usually ends up guessing what happens in the plot. This is Levi btw^^ *heart eyes* WARNING: the manga is definitely on the gory side but the anime not much so (but still intense). it didn't really bother me though but you have been warned.

This is mostly a review of volumes 8 to 16. Around here finishes the (view spoiler)[rebellion (hide spoiler)] arc, in which (view spoiler)[an utterly corrupt internal military police outlaws Eren's and his friends' Survey Corps and the titan killers must fight against human beings for their survival (hide spoiler)] . The whole deal was a surprisingly (view spoiler)[titanless (hide spoiler)] affair. Human beings are shown to be far, far more ruthless than the sort of mindless, human-devouring titans. Like in The Walking Dead, but done right. Turning Attack on Titan's cruel world (view spoiler)[("Fight" (hide spoiler)] into a human vs. human affair made the whole thing far more disturbing. I don't know if it was having read it just yesterday, but there were a lot of really fucked up imagery and themes that I don't see how they will be able to even legally include in the anime, that I suppose in Japan gets show on TV. The violence and multiple deaths are one thing ((view spoiler)[although I think that, overall, far less people die in this arc than in the others (hide spoiler)] ), but, as mild spoilers, here we go through (view spoiler)[very graphic torture, the generally good guys becoming butchers, children getting treated like garbage and people getting murdered just because they inconvenienced others (hide spoiler)] . I don't know if animes go through any level of censoring in Japan to be able to be commercialized, even something like the FCC in the US, but I doubt it'd pass as it is, because this arc would be a huge red flag for some of the people in power these days: (view spoiler)[it shows the extent that the ruling class in the walled "city" went to keep that society from advancing and for it to remain forever under the control of a cabal: censoring any news that inconvenienced them, murdering people who planned to see the outside or invented important new technologies or even questioned how humanity came to live inside a few walls surrounded by hordes of monsters (hide spoiler)] . Some of the conclusions are implicit, but the point is made that (don't read if you don't want to know a significant secret about that world) (view spoiler)[some cabal, at least 107 years ago from the current events in the story, somehow created the titans in order to have an overwhelming outsider enemy so the elites could keep the population constantly in fear, and justify because of that threat any extreme measures they would see fit. As the remaining "pureblood" Reiss stated, the goal was to reduce humanity to a few cities ruled forever under a lineage of humans that can turn into titans. Somehow they erased people's memory, so nobody knew how the world ended up that fucked up. They also sort of believed themselves to be gods because of the power they had held for centuries or millenia, and had no intention of ever letting humanity advance, no matter the fear and despair humanity would have to live under forever (hide spoiler)] . That makes the people behind the scenes in this story some of the worst ever. It also gets dangerously close to real life, with (view spoiler)[certain cabals moving to destroy the nations and societies (ours at least) and through ethnic cleansing turn those populations into mongrels without roots nor history, forever under the totalitarian control of a self-appointed "elite" (see Richard Coudenhove-Kalergi, Nahum Goldmann, etc.). The "new", and last, world order (hide spoiler)] . Although I was engrossed by this arc, and I'm constantly in awe of the quality of the plotting, I liked it less than the previous affairs. There was far less room for heroism and more desperate maneuvering to get rid of some really, really horrible human beings. Pros: I loved the character arc Christa Lenz/Historia Reiss went through. (view spoiler)[She was justified to turn horribly bad, yet went her final route. However, because of her fucked up life, we still know rather little about her real self because of the masks she's had to wear (hide spoiler)] . We found out what happened to Eren's father, and I loved it. We learned more about Mikasa's bloodline ((view spoiler)[as well as Levi's and that newcomer Kenny's (hide spoiler)] ) and why they had been hunted and maligned for centuries. Levi was incredible. Commander Erwin, a man above all men, showed he can fight in a different way after (view spoiler)[ a fucking titan ate his right arm (hide spoiler)] . Cons: I didn't buy the whole Jean's (view spoiler)["I kill titans, not people" (hide spoiler)] thing as was stretched. Even his horse-faced self would have snapped out of it earlier, I think, given the dire situation his group was in. I would have loved to see more, or anything at all really, of (view spoiler)[Ymir and Annie. Ymir's fate was maybe sealed completely in the last arc, and Annie remains in that shell. Too bad, because I developed quite a crush on that joyless, nihilistic villain. (hide spoiler)] . Eren's reaction in the climax made me lose some empathy for him. Not sure if it was intended. He was always kind of an idiot for ignoring Mikasa, but in this arc (view spoiler)[he wishes to die so someone else will take his power and do what he can't be arsed to. What the hell, man? What about your friends? What about your promise to remain forever with Mikasa, you douche? Did any of them cross your mind at any point? (hide spoiler)] . This last point is probably more about what happens to most series instead of Attack on Titan in particular, but the plot armor for the (view spoiler)[entirety of the remaining 104th squad (hide spoiler)] hurts the stakes. At least in the first arc we lost (view spoiler)[Marco (hide spoiler)] . Do I actually want some of my favorite characters to die? Would that satisfy me? I'm not happy that (view spoiler)[Annie (hide spoiler)] isn't around anymore, after all. I don't know, but I was okay with the fifth episode of the first season of the anime, in which (view spoiler)[the main character really seemed to die (hide spoiler)] . I just accepted then that it would be that kind of bold, ruthless story. All in all, this arc took a really troubling detour to figure out if Eren had the means to patch up Wall Maria.

Loved the Ackerman's history and how they are the only ones that cannot be erased their memories and that they were against the King along with the Asian clan. This just makes Mikasa a very good asset to the end of the manga. Loved also Kenny because he was much more honest then Rod Reiss another character I fell in love all over again is Erwin Smith, and totally loved the all squad Levi and especially the fight between Levi and Kenny well in the anime is even more badass ...
