Splendid Tales!! I can honestly say that this collection of tales are by far one of the best anthologies I've ever had the pleasure of reading! I was creepied out, I shifted uncomfortably in my seat, I held my breath, I felt.... Emotions. And I could barely put this book down until I reached the last page. Will definitely be on the lookout for more books by Salpeter (I almost typed saltpeter... Ha!) Splendid Tales!! This book is outside genres I usually read, but I wanted to give it a try. This book is a compilation of short stories and very short vignettes. Either or both may draw you in, even if just for a moment. I particularly enjoyed the longer, short stories. I found the book a pleasurable change from my normal reading. It was written well and was a fun, easy read.

This book only took a couple hours to read. A collection of short fiction, some only 1 page long. Most were pretty good. The writing seemed simplistic but I enjoyed the longer stories. Imaginative and creepy.

On my TO READ list because it's a highly rated horror anthology. I think I might like horror more in short story form than longer fiction. On my TO READ list because it's a highly rated horror anthology. I think I might like horror more in short story form than longer fiction.

Spooky spooky spooky! I am very picky about my horror and the short stories in Ricket Row scored high on my creepy meter. My new obsession is anthologies. I live to read, but don't have the time to read many full length novels. So it was great that I was easily able to sneak in a story or two in the few days it took me to breeze through this. Elyse Salpeter put together a fantastic array of spooky stories that I thoroughly enjoyed. Very well done! Definitely one I will read again! Spooky spooky spooky! A Creepy Anthology of Horror Tales Ricket Row is an anthology of creepy horror tales by Elyse Salpeter, the author of The Mannequins. A few of the short stories read more like outlines for a story while others were well developed short stories with satisfying endings. Many of the stories included zombies, vampires, and ghosts—welcomed fare for creepy tales of horror. “Mrs. O’Malley’s Children” was my favorite. Mrs. O’Malley ran an orphanage for disadvantaged and disabled children. Many of the stories included zombies, vampires, and ghosts—welcomed fare for creepy tales of horror. “Mrs. O’Malley’s Children” was my favorite. Mrs. O’Malley ran an orphanage for disadvantaged and disabled children. When the Zombie Apocalypse finally occurred, Mrs. O’Malley’s estate was the only refuge capable of protecting and maintaining human life. Salpeter does an amazing job developing realistic characters and a plot that kept this reader riveted. “Awake” tells the quick story of a traffic accident victim filled with recreational drugs awake for his own operation, but the doctor believes he’s asleep. Imagine that horror! “Mr. Wong’s Amazing Wok” will make sure you think twice about your relationship with your spouse. Husband Jack brings his wife of six months frequently to his favorite restaurant, Mr. Wong’s, for Chinese cuisine. Jack has a history of having wives die of cancer. Perhaps his deceased spouses should have sent Mr. Wong’s food to a lab for testing? “Find Me on Ricket Row,” is the perfect tale to tell teens over a campfire to ensure they have a restless sleep. And “Tragedy at Sea” is a Titanic tale whose main character is a vampire. “Clown” should have been fleshed out more to make this potentially creepy story into a nail biter. It’s true to say different readers will have varying opinions about Ricket Row. However, they’ll all agree that most of the stories grabbed their attention and wouldn’t let go.

These are some creepy stories! I don't generally read horror, so I might be a bit of a wimp for this kind of story. After starting the first story, I decided this would be better read during the day. Ok, I am a wimp. Many of these stories are very short, but manage to convey just enough to portray real horror. The first story, Inside, for example - the demeanor of the changed people was unsettling. The briefness of the story, leaving you to imagine how it unfolds, adds to its disturbing nature. That is the way with many of these stories - short enough to set up a disturbing scenario and leaving you to fill in the blanks. Truly chilling. Some have a surprise ending, like Mr. and Mrs. Odd, that startle you at the last moment. Body Parts was appropriately creepy - until that ending! Did not expect that! I really enjoyed Mrs. O'Malley's children. The tension was high from the start, good characters with just enough backstory. I even got a little emotional a couple of times. Great climax, and this time we got a good, if not happy, ending. All in all, a great collections of stories that will chill you and keep you up at night.

Anthologies are perfectly paired with a busy schedule, especially when the collection is entertaining like this one. The title story is terrific in addition to several others(let's just say that I'll never look at Asian cuisine the same way)and I thoroughly enjoyed many of these creepy, quirky little tales. Very nice. This was a really good anthology. Some were a bit lackluster, but all in all, it was an enjoyable compilation. I was impressed with the writing style, and the originality. Definitely recommended.

Excellent anthology of creepiness. These stories are fun, and twisted, and original. I did not stop reading until I turned the last page. In fact, I read it so fast, now I have to go back and read it again--yay! That's what I call a good book. Excellent anthology of creepiness. These stories are fun, and twisted, and original. Truly creepy! Fascinating page turners. Dark and creepy - exactly as you'd wish an anthology like this to be! Can't wait for more from this author. Truly creepy! Fascinating page turners. Dark and creepy - exactly as you'd wish an anthology like this to be! Can't wait for more from this author.
