So this seems to be aimed at middle grade readers. I checked it out primarily to see if my son would like it. At this point it's still over his head (he's only 8). This comic strip is only OK. I tried to remember what comics of this type I liked in middle grade. For me, the gold standard was Garfield and Calvin and Hobbes. While this book wasn't bad, it just wasn't as good as the ones I used to read at that age. Thank you Netgalley for a free digital copy in exchange for an honest review. 'Big Nate: Welcome to My World' by Lincoln Peirce is another laugh out loud collection featuring Big Nate and his friends and teachers. Featured this time are strips about grandparent's day at P.S. 38 when Nate brings his grandparent's to school. Also Nate's attempts to get his dad to hand out candy at Halloween instead of tofu, and to make him fun lunches so that he can trade other kids for things. Nate works on becoming a lifeguard. I feel like this book was good. But it could be better. It kept changing the story from problem to problem. Which I don't like. I like it staying on one topic. Which i think it should be. If it switches topics it should just be different books. Anyway each topic had very good detail and humor. For example one of Nates teachers would always give him detention. Even when his parents and his grandparents. If i were his parents i would get that teacher fired. The story had just the amount of charact I feel like this book was good. But it could be better. It kept changing the story from problem to problem. Which I don't like. I like it staying on one topic. Which i think it should be. If it switches topics it should just be different books. Anyway each topic had very good detail and humor. For example one of Nates teachers would always give him detention. Even when his parents and his grandparents. If i were his parents i would get that teacher fired. The story had just the amount of characters. At least all the different topics had the same characters. But it would always add a character and lose a character depending on the topic. But yet again it is a comic book so I guess they are supposed to change topics a lot. I would give this story a 3.5 stars out of 5. I put 4 on the rating because it can't do half stars.

The book comprises of lots of short comic strip style stories all starring Big Nate. They are hilarious, entertaining, colourful and appeal to young and old alike. As usual with this type of book, I really wish more were produced with upper and lower case text to enable struggling readers to find it easier to access the text. Apart from that, my standard gripe, a great series which entertains and encourages children to read! We follow Nate through his everyday life of being a middle school student. The colored graphics remind me of the Sunday paper comics section (which I read every week). It is 177 pages long and is a compiled collection of shorter comics. This took me back to my years spent in middle school. My favorite section is about Nate and an odd dog who is afraid squirrels, plays with cats, wears a wussy sweater and a collar that looks like a satellite dish. Nate teaches the dog to play Frisbee, Instead of fetching the Frisbee the dog picks it up and throws it like Nate did and accidentally whacks a mean, nerdy girl from school in the head with it. Nate and the dog hide behind a tree and manage to not get caught by the girl. This was fun to read.

There are stories that go on for several pages and some that are four panels short and sweet. This book takes us through Nate's everyday activities from school days, summer holidays and his interactions with both his friends and other adults in his life. I loved the story about the cheez doodles. One serving This is a graphic novel/comic book geared to middle grade students. Nate is in the 6th grade and he is that child that is always questioning, getting detentions and just a little obnoxious. There are stories that go on for several pages and some that are four panels short and sweet. This book takes us through Nate's everyday activities from school days, summer holidays and his interactions with both his friends and other adults in his life. I loved the story about the cheez doodles. One serving is 6.5 doodles and Nate just could not deal with that. His father is a healthy food advocate. We meet his dog who is afraid of squirrels, his friends and his family. His interactions with the brainy Gina, his interactions with the teachers and other staff at his school and his hilarious attempts at various sports will all give kids a laugh and they will be able to identify with the characters in this book. The cartoons are cute and colourful. I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Hi, my name is Kristina and this is my first Big Nate book. (hiiii, Kristina) I really liked this collection of comics. Back in late elementary/middle school comics were a big percentage of the books I read. This collection certainly took me back there. It was an easy read that was entertaining and helped me unwind after a day of work. I can see how some people would find the trope of a male protagonist who rebels against school a bit redundant, but I enjoyed this partly because it reminded me of Hi, my name is Kristina and this is my first Big Nate book. (hiiii, Kristina) I really liked this collection of comics. Back in late elementary/middle school comics were a big percentage of the books I read. This collection certainly took me back there. It was an easy read that was entertaining and helped me unwind after a day of work. I can see how some people would find the trope of a male protagonist who rebels against school a bit redundant, but I enjoyed this partly because it reminded me of those comics I read back in the day. Would I have liked it as much if Nate was a girl? I don't know. Moment of truth: Would I pick this up in a library and read it? Yes. Would I buy this book in a bookstore? I probably would. If not for myself or a friend, then as a donation to a library.

My son and I have read almost all of the Big Nate Books and look forward to each new edition. We particularly liked the part were Nate's grandparents toured his school. This Nate series has made my son enjoy reading. This is a book you will want to add to your children's collection. I rate this book a 5 out of 5! This is a favorite book for kids in our school library and one of my 9-year-olds favorite series. I found it more funny than I expected. I laughed out loud (well, chuckled is more like it) in some places even. It took me a bit to get used to the storyline switching. There are not chapters or story headers like in Catwad. Instead it switches from a 4-panel comic page to a 6-panel comic page. I do like full color comics like this myself so I guess I can't blame kids for liking them as well. What I This is a favorite book for kids in our school library and one of my 9-year-olds favorite series. I found it more funny than I expected. I laughed out loud (well, chuckled is more like it) in some places even. It took me a bit to get used to the storyline switching. There are not chapters or story headers like in Catwad. What I really appreciated was that there isn't a lot of potty humor jokes. There are some references that I think are a little over my 3rd graders head and it reminds me a bit of the slices of humor in Disney/Pixas cartoons that is meant to entertain parents. A good series for those who enjoy Dogman, Captain Underpants and Catwad. Note: Big Nate books come in many varieties so read carefully if purchasing to make sure you are getting what your kid wants. There are full-color comics, black and white clomics and then actual chapter books with some illustrations scattered throughout.

My favorite part of the book was where the dad got a blood pressure monitor and then Nate comes in and does something to make dad and, and then the numbers go crazy.
