I thought it was a very good story, a historical novel even about how things were for especially the Cherokee Indians like George and his brother! I thought he did a marvelous job of making the reader feel like they were right there alongside of George and his new family, Duncan and all. This book was incredibly poorly written. It reminded me of the attempts at fiction that I have written, only to throw them away because they sound so elementary and stilted. The characters were flat. The dialogue was unrealistic, and the religious side of the story was overdone.

If only history was taught this way! I was brought right into the wagon train trying to get to the west. Cliff Ball does a great job of bringing you right to the scene of action. I realized that I was being walked through the "Trail of Tears" as he was bringing me through the events. I never realized the hardships that early Americans faced or how the Indians were mistreated and this book brought that to light in a wonderful story that is written so clearly, it is like seeing the movie in your h If only history was taught this way! Very interesting book! The Long Journey has a good amount of biblical foundations. It has a lot of very interesting historical events throughout it and just a bit of romance...but I would classify it more historically based. I was gifted this book in exchange for my honest review.
