Long before Kyrie Irving’s golden years were over, he had already become a multi-game NBA All-Star, recipient of the 2012 Rookie of the Year Award, the 2014 NBA All-Star MVP, and NBA Champion with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Kyrie went to the NBA Finals at the tender age of 24 while most NBA players retire without ever having a shot at the championship. However, he would tell you these accolades are par for the course. Irving abides by his father’s advice to “stay hungry and humble,” words driving Irving’s relentless work ethic both on and off the court. In a league dominated by incredibly talented point guards, there is no choice for ambitious athletes but to aspire to greatness. For Kyrie, his impeccable ball handling along with his knack for acrobatic finishes around the rim distinguish him third from his contemporaries. Irving’s game is decisive and crafty but maintains a degree of elegance. He keeps opponents guessing from the top of the key right down to the bucket. His impressive dribbling ability and superb ambidexterity allow him to keep defenses on their heels.

An informative read Clayton Geoffreys has written a fact-filled book about one of the NBA's youngest stars. For the casual observer of the NBA when you think of the Cleveland Cavaliers you think Lebron James so I was fascinated to read this informative book about Kyrie Irving. I like that the book is succinct, at 66-pages so I was able to easily read it in a sitting. It's got the perfect balance of material from his youth to his meteoric rise into NBA stardom.

He was also in the band and played the saxophone. He was one one of the best players on the high school team and got a scholarship to duke university where ho only played a few games before being chosen as the first pick in the 2011 draft to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Kyrie won rookie of the year and is now an all star. He played with Lebron James and won a championship with him. But a year after they won a championship Kyrie left Cleveland to go to the Boston Celtics. The book made me feel good because I loved how he set his goal so young. This is worth reading if you like basketball. A connection I made is how similar him and Allen Iverson anr as players. Like many of clayton's books I think it is a little unnecessary to go as deep as he did into the career but I loved how deep he went into their childhoods. His books are a little outdated but that's ok because there is nothing he can do about that. But overall It was a fantastic book. Practice makes perfect. Kyrie practiced a lot as a kid and teenager, thats what made him who he is today. With all of the drills he did like dribble balls with plastic bags, dribble with more than one ball, and play a full court game every day to 100 he turned into the best ball handler of all time.

While reading it, it felt like Geoffreys and I were sitting on the porch talking about an amazing player. That is how this account of Kyrie Irving's career reads and will be enjoyed by any basketball fan. I wish to thank Mr. Geoffreys for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I am usually not one for a biography, I tend to be more a fiction reader but when this book was suggested to me I thought I would go ahead and give it a read and see how I felt about it. First I will say that the writing was well researched and the author was able to convey this life story well. I tend to think it is not easy to write a biography since people tend to be slightly boring whoever they are. It was well written and thought out. As to the story it was an interesting read. The timeline was easy to follow and considering this is not my usual genre it flowed as well as any other story I have read and liked. It was not just the “rise to fame” but the actual life, outside of the glam and glitz without being overdone

Buzzers blaring at the end of each quarter, the sound of shoes squeaking on the hardwood, the sound of the ball finding its way into the bottom of the net, the crowd erupting into cheer; this is what an average day is like for Kyrie Irving, one of the most versatile point guards in the league. Throughout the novel, The Inspiring Story of One of Basketball’s Most Versatile Point Guard, Clayton Geoffreys gives an in depth summary of Kyrie Irving’s life. The author adequately covers sections of Kyries life including his early years, his college years, and his professional year. Geoffreys takes into account Kyrie’s hard work, training, and some of his setbacks. This novel gives an in depth analysis of Kyrie’s life, vividly describes details of the culture of basketball, and provides motivation for the reader to achieve their goals. The novel starts off by explaining Kyrie’s early years. Throughout these years, Kyrie’s work ethic and motives are explained. His dad once stated “while you're sleeping there is someone on the west coast putting in work” (Geoffreys 14). Then it transitions into Kyrie’s college years. The shortest section of the book, explains Kyrie’s short but impactful college year. Following Kyrie’s college career is his NBA career. SPOILER ALERT: Kyrie Irving was drafted number one overall in the 2011 NBA draft. He was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers, a team which desperately needed an all star caliber player. The novel then goes on to explain his playing days for the Cavaliers. SPOILER (for those who do not follow the NBA) Geoffreys then writes about Kyrie’s decision to leave the Cavaliers and join the Boston Celtics. In addition, the novel indirectly touches upon the controversial topic of college basketball one and done players. While discussing Kyrie’s collegiate years, the author writes about how Kyrie had only went to college for one year, got injured, and then was brought into the league at a young age. This has become a controversial topic for many. I do not want to go into great detail, but it is basically the argument that athletes are seeing college as a big sports tournament, rather than a way to educate themself. Many believe that the one and done athletes are not preparing themselves for the future, in case their basketball career fails. Furthermore, this novel shows that hard work pays off. Kyrie's Work ethic allowed him to make up for his lack of physical attributes. This allowed the reader to understand that any goal is possible as long as one is willing to put in the work. To conclude, this novel thoroughly describes Kyrie Irving’s life, motivates its readers, and touches upon multiple aspects of basketball. Thus, I would recommend this book to any fellow “sports junkie”, like myself.
