I had the privilege to read an advance copy of Spider Road Press’s release Eve’s Requiem: Tales of Women, Mystery, and Horror. Eve’s Requiem is a compelling compilation of tales in tribute to the resiliency of women who are placed in dangerous situations. Many of these tales have paranormal elements, while others are firmly grounded in realistic, everyday situations that spiral out of control. Historically in much of horror fiction, women have been regulated to helpless victims or sexual conquests. This collection of stories places women in positions of power. The women in these short stories are relatable: they assert themselves, make choices, and take action. While they feel fear, these women are not stymied by it. I found it heartening that the focus was not on their physical descriptions—the characters could be any of us. The essence of these stories was centered on their strength, their reasoning, their decisions, their need to survive. That fight for survival is what makes the stories in Eve’s Requiem such an engrossing and relevant read.

I don't read much horror at all, but this little collection was a lot of fun. Original, quirky, entertaining, fast paced, fun. A great, broad spectrum of themes and styles. Eve’s Requiem is a collection of 13 short stories featuring strong female characters. Because I’ve read several of these authors before, I expected, and received, good writing and a well told-story. But I was pleasantly surprised at how completely entranced I became with each story. The mystery, the supernatural, and the horror—each snippet showcased a strong woman—some good, others not so wholesome—but each uniquely her own person. And the stories developed organically from these strong leads. Eve’s Requiem is a collection of 13 short stories featuring strong female characters. "Eve's Requiem" is a wonderful collection of short horror stories written by women. I picked this up from the editor at a book event and I'm so glad I did! This had perfect short stories to give you the chills, to make you think what?, and to make you think about them days later. The bonus is that the sell benefits rape crisis centers or veterans charities! "Eve's Requiem" is a wonderful collection of short horror stories written by women.
