The Barsoom stories are timeless classics Burroughs Barsoom series is excellent. Fun, well written, interesting for all ages. A nice blend of action, adventure, mild romance, chivelry, and science fiction. A bit misogynistic, but not too bad, considering it was written between 1915 and 1960.

A must read for any science fiction fan. Some of the language is dated. The books were written at the opening of the 20th century. Very good stories overshadow and minor changes in language in 100+ years howver

Bought the 5 book novel at barns and noble. I enjoyed the different planetary races and one man who stands alone against them all. Both versions of the movie doesnt do the book justice. So many things going on is one of the best curl by fire books ive read in three winters.

John Carter by Burroughs This series is a wonderful vacation.full of fantastic journeys and long odds. The movie really did a disservice to the books

Great series Great series, even if it a little predictable. I wish the “John Carter” movie had followed the book closer. And, I wish they would make the rest of the series into movies.

I don't know what I missed in the book/set that others saw to give it an average rating of 4.5. The imagination of Burroughs is worse than an 1 year old. Narration is even worse. Or maybe if I read it before reading HG Wells ("War of Worlds"), my reaction would have been different! Suddenly the person lands on Mars and just because of gravity difference becomes a hero in the eyes of Martians who are no different from humans except for their color. They wear ornaments too? And they have pet dogs? I don't know what I missed in the book/set that others saw to give it an average rating of 4.5. The imagination of Burroughs is worse than an 1 year old. And they have pet dogs? Come on, I thought it was a science fiction. I'd rather spend the time reading some kids' book like "The Secret Garden" or even "Fairy tales" that make more sense. In short, a huge disappointment.

Marvelous escapist reading filled with so much of what is missing today: Honor, integrity, and duty. In Burroughs world women are to be protected, provided for, and prized above self. Fun reading all the way through, even if a few of the books were a little less captivating. Still they were all good.

From Earth To Mars This is the cheapest and nearly complete collection of the John Carter novels I could find. Reading the novels I kept coming across that sound familiar. I think it's due to George Lucas strip mining the best parts of this series for his Star Wars movies. Jeddak,Banth and Sith are all words from these books that have been recycled by Mr. Lucas.
