A beautiful indispensable book for me. Through the years, I always come back to smell the roses as the different and strange poets did in this anthology. A possible criticism would be that the selection of poems was unfair and mostly concerned with certain, limited themes. I don't mind, i enjoyed it. A beautiful indispensable book for me. I never had the chance to read other poetry from all walks of our countries & languages is a great stepping stone of reading. Being able to read and get inspired to write through other countries & languages from Chinese, Japanese, Sanscrit, Arabian, Persian, Hebrew, Egyptian, Greek, Latin, Italian, French, German, Scandinavian, Russian, English, Irish, American will be challenging for a Sself-Published Author like myself.

I am fortunate to have a Second Printing, March 1929, edition of this classic anthology edited by Mark Van Doren, Columbia University English professor. We share some very good friends. :) essay "To a Friend Whose Work Has Come to Nothing" http://www.beatdom.com/?p=3266 I am fortunate to have a Second Printing, March 1929, edition of this classic anthology edited by Mark Van Doren, Columbia University English professor. A marvelous collection of poetry spanning many cultures and time periods. One good feature of this collection is that it includes not only some "giants" but a large number of lesser-known poets, as well as lesser-known works by major poets. An excellent book for lovers of world poetry. A marvelous collection of poetry spanning many cultures and time periods. Despite it's age, this is my favorite collection of poetry, with translations from 15 World languages, plus selections from England, Ireland and the US. A companion to "Anthology of World Prose".
