Understanding that this was written so long ago helps me keep words like "normal" and "psychotic" along with stereotyping of these children in perspective and realize that the author's viewpoint must have changed and experienced growth since then. Apart from that, though, these are good examples of documented early music therapy cases and can help people better understand music therapy and its effects. Concise and well written with very interesting case studies. The second edition makes no attempt to make the original more "politically correct", so there are frequent references to children with autism being "psychotic" etc., but the therapy obviously worked and remains relevant today. Interesting book, I found it an easy read as many science based books can be quite hard to understand the field's terminology for first-time readers. However, as a student, it was very easy to read and I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Informative, reliable and inspiration. Very easy to reference as well. I would recommend a read, even if it's just two sections it's the type of book where you can delve in at any point.
