I will try to review without giving away any spoilers. I’m Living But I'm Not Alive: Book One in the Black Caviar Series, is an entertaining and action packed thrill ride that will keep you turning pages. The main character Daman is the kingpin of the Chicago underworld. He is also the most ruthless man you would ever want to know. While the story plays out like a cross between Breaking Bad, Miami Vice, and The Wire. It moves along at a good pace and keeps you hooked throughout the entire book. The plot is solid and carries completely though the book. There are no slow parts. The author is British so some grammar is slightly off and might bother some US readers. But it by no way harms the telling of the story. A word of note there are some extremely graphic scenes that may be to much for younger readers or those that are overly sensitive to violence.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It is an in depth look into the world of drug dealing and drug lords, as well as the many ways that lifestyle trickles down through the community in different ways infiltrating cities and the lives of even the average person. Daman is a ferocious character that is a force of nature in himself. This book has many strong characters, some I could identify with, others I loathed, and still others were fearsome and scary in their cold and calculating actions. Yet the characters are well developed and believable. I love that even Daman who is brilliant, calculating and fierce has a soft side when it comes to his daughters and family. I would love to see this book worked into a screenplay and acted out in the movies! Black Caviar holds your attention and pulls you through the story giving you a hunger to know what happens next. There are scenes that tear at your heart and make you feel for the characters and other scenes that will make your hair stand on end! I look forward to reading the next book in this series! If you haven't read it yet and like a book that will keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat, you've got to read this!

Thanks to Preston F. for bringing this one to our attention. Drug trafficking, a Chicago crime syndicate, dirty cops, murder, and torture sure seem like topics that could make for an exciting book. When the author includes an introduction informing you that he is, "a new breed of thriller writer," with a, "raw and sexy ability to place you in the box seat," then surely this book will deliver! ...right?

This was a great book. It was action-packed from the start. Every page left me wanting more. Daman is confident and powerful Chicago gangster. He knows how to hustle and he’s at the top of his game. The writing was raw, sexy, exciting and intriguing. It reminded me of HBO’s The Wire. This book was hard to stop reading. I love the way the book was written. This is a great action-packed thriller.
