The only book I can compare this to is Claudia Roden's The Book of Jewish Food. This is a culinary history of Iraqi food. An incredible work of research and scholarship and cooking: history, cultural insights, stories, jokes and wonderful recipes. One to buy and enjoy for many years. So much information and plenty of recipes. The basic recipes allow one to improvise easily to suit taste. The history is a fun bonus. I would like to own a copy for cooking reference. I'm very picky about cookbooks and this is a must have, for those who love middle-eastern cuisine. So much information and plenty of recipes.
