The writing technique presented in this book is intriguing. I have only one problem with it. I don't like that it's presented as a way of writing a romance novel in the description and yet it's a way of rewriting one instead then suddenly becomes a plotting book again. It's a little disorienting to go back and forth. If it's supposed to be a plotting technique, show plotting. If it's supposed to be a revision technique, show revising. It was like reading a tennis match of methods, even if they do eventually work together. I do have one question: where are the books Ms. Alderson has written, other than her nonfiction books? I like her advice and all, but I'd like to know she actually published something herself using the techniques she offers.

Okay, but too generic This does offer some nuggets of wisdom, but felt overly complicated. It's also not very genre-specific. I think you'll get the most out of this book if you've already written a novel but don't think it'll be overly useful as a pre-writing outlining tool.

Good brief summary I have read it but I found the examples too simple. I think I still have no clue about a conflict and dramatic action.
