Dirty Business

Availability: Ready to download

When a British soldier the world thought was dead resurfaces, shot in the guts, in the home of a still-warm dead man an unsavoury story of dirty business and murder begins to emerge. A politician and a shadowy government security official make contact with him and reveal evidence of where he should be looking for answers to his questions. With their assistance, the soldier When a British soldier the world thought was dead resurfaces, shot in the guts, in the home of a still-warm dead man an unsavoury story of dirty business and murder begins to emerge. A politician and a shadowy government security official make contact with him and reveal evidence of where he should be looking for answers to his questions. With their assistance, the soldier becomes embroiled in a mission for retribution and justice. And for some crimes only biblical justice will do. Dirty Business tells how Acer Sansom returns from the ‘dead’, where he’s been for his missing year and why he is possessed with a single-minded need for vengeance. It follows his journey from the south of England to Turkey on the trail of the men responsible for the fate of his murdered family and his search for the truth. Acer’s desire for revenge is clear. Less clear are the motives of those helping him and whose hands are soiled with their Dirty Business.

I enjoyed the writing in this novel. Oliver Tidy has a very readable style and although the plot was a tad too complex for me ( I was reading when my insomnia stopped me sleeping, so perhaps that was more my fault than the book) I found the characters very engaging.

I am giving an high score though I do not like this genre, will not mark it down because I don't do super hero types. Will still look out for new R&M, B&C books. This novel starts with an intriguing first chapter, with a chap turning up a year after his supposed death. From there the story drags you in and keeps you interested. The hero of the book isn't the usual Jack Reacher type which means you can relate to him a little. As he stumbles through the first quarter of the book. I do however think there are several coincidences happening, without the story would've dried up, so I suppose the author can be given license for them. I would have given this 4 stars had it not been a rather disappointing ending. I understand and fully respect that the author leaves you in the unknown to try and keep you hooked and thus more incentivised to continue the series. However, this ending was just far too vague for my liking. Yes, you can guess what's to come in the next book, but there was no hint or mention. Usually I find in a series, the ending of one book, is simultaneously a brief and tantalising introduction to its sequel. "Great start to a series" This was a decent action/adventure. Thoroughly enjoyed the opening chapters where the premise of the story was set up. From about two-thirds of the way through though my attention wandered. Things became a little stodgy and the pace slowed. Hence the 4*. "Great start to a series" This was a decent action/adventure. Very enjoyable The plot is well set out with the characters and story very believable. The length of chapters and the suspension was just enough to allow you to put the book down anytime, pick it up the next day and you we instantly back on track. Well done.

Exciting All the Way I've read several of his books now and have yet to be disappointed. In this one he weaves quite an adventure that I think you will enjoy as much as I did. As much as I like Romney and Marsh, I just couldn't get to like this book, and after a few futile attempts to finish it I just gave up. The main characters are just not likable or interesting enough to make me want to find out what will happen to them. The plot should be interesting, but something, somehow is missing for me. I can't really put my finger on it. So those who like Romney and Marsh, stay away from Acer Sansom, this is not for you. Read this in two sittings so fast paced and well written. Not to graphic in it's violence, it really made me think of thrillers of earlier days. I don't mean that as a criticism. Mr Tidy writes good books and I look forward to the next one. Read this in two sittings so fast paced and well written.
