"Art of Attention" is a book I originally sampled as a galley, but ended up buying much later after the fact as a reference for yoga practice as a part of my background in exercise science. Penned by Elena Brower and Erica Jago, the book is beautiful compilation in five sessions of yoga poses presented as meditative practice, fully illustrated with movement diagrams and photographs. I liked the step-by-step presentation and interactive prompts the book provides. I would rate it a solid 4-stars f "Art of Attention" is a book I originally sampled as a galley, but ended up buying much later after the fact as a reference for yoga practice as a part of my background in exercise science. I would rate it a solid 4-stars for the presentation of the book, both on an artistic level and for the foundation of the information and practices here. Overall score: 4/5 stars. Note: I originally received a sample of this book as a galley from NetGalley on behalf of the publisher, but later bought the book on my own.

This yoga workbook is elegant with artistic illustrations and photographs. It did not surprise me to read that one of the co-authors is a graphic designer, who graduated from Ohio State, by the way. Eastern philosophy shows up pretty strong in the text but I ignore that. My focus and appreciation is for the sequencing, cueing and artful illustrations.

I received this book, for free, in exchange for an honest review. This is a loving, spirited (read hippyish) and wonderfully illustrated book. There are gorgeous pictures everywhere, but the yoga poses could use more than one. The pictographs the author uses in her sequences are novel and useful. The author is filled with love and it radiates throughout the book.

This book is beautifully designed, but I can't say I got a lot from it. The yoga sequences are illustrated in a tiny, bizarre style that is difficult to decipher when you are in a forward bend or some other pose-not-meant-for-reading-glasses. (Hello!! Not everyone who does yoga is 25 years old!) And there is a lot of room for journaling/writing, but it's not clear to me what I'm supposed to be writing about. How pretty the pictures are? Because they are pretty. There are much better books about This book is beautifully designed, but I can't say I got a lot from it. A beautiful book. A teensy bit style over substance but still lovely, with a nice focus on slowing down and being aware.

Beautiful book. Similar to the wanderlust book by Jeff Krasos in being the kind you will pick up again and again and keep on your shelf.

“The most spiritual and powerful aspect of human nature is our faculty of attention. Consciousness. Attention is what allows us to see ourselves, and see within ourselves, in order to learn how we can elegantly approach anything, everything.”
