I wish that a book about girls didn't start with all girls being beautiful. How about start with smart then go to beautiful. There is a lot of diversity but all the people from western countries are white even though there are lots of non-white people born in the USA and Canada all the time. hard to find a better board book, in my opinion. Hazel loves it and so does Norah. she reminds me to say each county the girls are from if I forget. :)

My kids LOVED the photographs of baby girls from around the world, and I loved the positive messages (visual and textual) about girls being smart and strong and having lots of different skin, eye, and hair colors. We read this one a LOT when my daughter was small.

I picked this book up as a freebie when pregnant with my first child. I wanted to have it in case I had a girl. That was five years ago and I now have two boys, but I still have this book. It's an important message to share with my sons, too. Plus it has a baby's favorite thing...faces! I picked this book up as a freebie when pregnant with my first child. Babies love looking at other babies! Not only is this book filled with great pictures to peer at while snuggling and talking together, but it has a great message too.

Not a very exciting story line, but the pictures are good to point out "nose", "eyes", "baby". There is even a cat to point at! Not a very exciting story line, but the pictures are good to point out "nose", "eyes", "baby". There is even a cat to point at!

Okay I'm trying to raise a feminist here, but more importantly my son picked this up at the library and made me read it to him about 10 times before we left the building. I spend a chunk of my day reading this over and over again and at this point I can say that the text could be improved. Why is the first line, "Baby girls are beautiful..."? Granted he's only a year old and maybe I'm being picky here but it wouldn't hurt to start out by saying girls are strong and bright. The negatives of this book have already been pointed out in other reviews--all of the babies from western countries are white, some countries are repeated, etc. This is a good one to flip through if your baby likes to look at other babies, but it wasn't exceptional. Photographs of babies from all over the world with a sweet message. Great introduction to diversity. My only problem was they repeated countries in each book. I wouldn’t think it’d be necessary!
